Chapter 50, Crushed, is up.

I think you'll find the chapter title appropriate, but not in the way you might expect. ;)

:2thumbs: ...........Trevor lives!!!!! Awesome! I wonder if the pirates damaged his fresh water supply? If not then at least he has water along with his (said) wieners to survive on. Question is how long will Trevor now be afloat seeing that the garlic crasher is not much of a signal (unless there are some vampires around) I wonder how differently Trevor's adrift will be to Captain Ali's at least he is clothed, did the pirates take all of Trevor's clothing too? I bet they did, Joel needs a laugh when Trevor finally talks to him about the ordeal. I still think Trevor's Atlantis will be towed by what ever rescuer. Perhaps a crew that does not speak English, pushing off Trevor's attempt to communicate with Joel & Lisa, hopefully he will be able to contact Gonzales only and be forewarned not to state his livelihood to anyone for the time being. Trevor might take this advise in consideration considering his last encounter, and maybe the days or weeks will bide time for him.

Jim in drag?? Well if that doesn't answer the relationship of Dirk and Jim, I don't know what will!

Better that the goat leaves us with a naked Trevor clutching a garlic crusher then a crushed Trevor!

GREAT CHAPTER CJ, I knew you would pull Trevor through! :music:

I'm really glad to see Trevor make it, but I still think CJ took hs near-death experience a bit too far. I'm not an expert on free diving, but when it comes to physics, I'm not sure the scenario described actually works. The fluid shifts CJ uses to explain the loosening of the rope that bound Trevor's hands would have to have been very significant, particularly given that much of the obstruction would have been from bone - not soft tissue. Boyancy is directly related to the volume of wather displaced - that's Archimedes' Principle in a nutshell. As Trevor's fluids are redistributed and his lungs collapse, his buoyancy would drop significantly. I suspect that this would be more than enough to offset the effect of losing a ten-pound weight belt. Speaking of which, how did Trevor see which direction the weight belt fell, in total darkness? The one thing working in Trevor's favor was that with the freeing of his arms, he now had additional muscles to use in propelling himself to the surface.

I'm not usually very good a predicting the direction of a story, but CJ left so many cles in this chapter that I feel pretty confident in what will most likely happen next. In effect, Trevor sealed his destiny when he poured grit into the diesel engines of the trawler. Disabled at sea, the pirates will be loathe to call for help when they have a ship full of pilfered loot. However, there are a couple of diesel engines available nearby back on Atlantas. They may not be as large as those on the trawler, but they're probably sufficient to get them back ot port. Thanks be to Allah, perhaps Atlantas hasn't sunk yet and they can still rescue those engines before she does.

Of course they couldn't bring the trawler back to Atlantas so they'd either have to ferry the engines to the trawler using the Zodiac or their inflatable raft, or they'd have to pump the water out of Atlantas and tow her back to the trawler. Either way, they'll be returning to Atlantas in either the Zodiac, their inflatable or both. With any luck, maybe they'll leave the raft or Zodiac unattended while they go to work and maybe Trevor will be able to sneak on board before they become aware of it.

Gosh I hate to have them come back (they be like 60 miles away before their dead in the water ... barely enough fuel for a round trip with engines ... barely enough to tow atlantis back) ...

when Trevor wakes up ... he will check for his stash - his gun, passport, money ... I wonder if he will ever check that kids can ... I forgot if it on the floor or thrown away into the sea ... but I wonder if it contains a clue to his past ... I wonder as trevor surveys the damage would he find hidden stuff on atlantis that he didn't know about ... I doub he find his wieners ... they take anything thats not nailed down ... or was that a can of pork that they don't eat but ... Trevor does.

Its a pitty there isn't another place on a atlantis for a hidden epirb ... trevor still needs to check whats less below deck of value ... hopefully he would catch site of the pirates return ... come up witha quick plan

Ambush them since he's an expert shot ... at most there be 4 to 6 guys to take care of and have a chance for a float raft or his zodiac ... if he can get his hands on the ak47 .. he could get ride of the other guys but its a big risk that he might get shot ... hopefull there is epirb embedded in the zodiac if not on atlantis.

I wonder if its more than tiredness ... he decended at 50ft/min and asended as fast as 106FT/MIN ... a fast assent is very dangerous and I doubt Trevor need air overrode safetyness ... with a poped eardrum ... does that mean he will remain deaf in one ear? or is that repairable with a bionic ear available from the late Jamie Summers (hi tech junkyard)

B)............... The trawler was traveling at 7 knots when it passed Trevor the first time, that is little over 10 miles an hour. Trevor had guessed the trawlers engines would be ruined in less then a day, 6-12 hours could mean anywhere from 60-120 miles away. I don't know the range of the zodiac, but Captain Ali would need to take extra gasoline to ensure that he was able to get a round trip out of it. Then again that is only if he believes that the Atlantis is still floating, if they do make the attempt. Trevor will be alerted this time by the zodiac's motor and be ready for a carelessly armed group believing the boat to be empty. I would love to see the scenario of a very surprised Captain Ali as he see's the resurrected Trevor shoot him, and as Allah claims him and his crew with his blessed sharks.

CJ left out - that Trevor was Naked with his hands clutching a ginger crusher

Waiting for a Horney Gay Native to come aboard .. or ... some production team with a famous porn star to come see a naked Trevor

Either way Trevor would find a new pain somewhere - and - his wiener juice in need of rehydration.

but porky juice will have to suffice

png28057984_Cadet-Fastroller-310-FR-Acti-V.jpg

I think it was around 125 miles range for the zodiac - I am not sure about the inflatable raft ... its range maybe a lot less.

( Zodiac is PVC seems no different than the raft )

I don't think Ali would go ... his men can salvage with out him ... if they think its submerge ... they bring scuba gear ... and torches and under water cutters??

if you figure 3 guys per boat ... plus extra gas ... thats very heavy and the boat working fast to travel burning fuel like crazy

They would most likely take it not so fast ... makes it easy for Trevor to take a shot of the rubber raft - with luck hit the gas can or torch tanks

trevor needs the zodiac ... but they would take evasive action ... Trevor will have to shoot a moving target ... that shoots back ... but they can not manveur to much because of the equiptment they carry ... they can't hide from being shot

he have to take out two guys with ak47 and the third is busy driving ... take him out last and risk getting shot himself

so it be two chapters before we hit this

Would you really think Trevor is the kind of guy to take revenge?? (another chapter)

He could take out ali and someother crew member ... and then he can use the boats communication equipment to call for help or use his epirb

or

would he take the zodiac and his hidden money ...travel to a nearby island ... that might have spotty communication and some more gas ... or if not find his gay native lover and come back a few years later

If he does the first thing then ... he can use the insurance money to rebuild atlantis and reuse the parts ... but then it be easier to buy a new one

Posted

OMG.. we all know CJ and that he can be really cruel.. but the garlic crusher... thats really f..ing unbeleivable.

How the heck do you come up with ideas like that !?

Lol. Great chapter !

B)..........

Scuba gear? The more they bring the less room for men and the retrieved engines will take up a lot of room. Either way I believe Captain Ali will go with them, he likes to be in charge, I see a 4-man crew. Trevor taking out the 2 armed men (remember when Trevor saw them before they haphazardly carried their AK47's), and ordering the them back into the raft leaving the zodiac to Trevor.

I think Captain Ali foresaw his fate when he was afraid of blood in the water attracting sharks, a slowly sinking raft with injured and bloodied crew members, dinner at sea, bon-apatite for the sharks.

Another mystery!!!!:D

Atlantis is clearly a write-off (the narrator never lies!) so, assuming Trev makes it back to civilisation he can just fly back home.

But then the title's promise "Circumnavigation" won't have been delivered.

Could he buy a replacement? Yeah sure, just wander into some "used yacht lot" with his insurance money and snap up a "one careful owner - low mileage" bargain?

But why would he bother - Atlantis was his love (along with Joel of course!)

Cliffhanger!!!!!

I see what you are up to :o Write one chapter with a cliffhanger (chapter 48) then skip a chapter and now make us wait another week until we MAYBE find out Trevor's fate. Evil, Evil Goat

So Dirk and Jim in drag, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :P Hopefully they look better than when CJ did his drag shows ;)

gallery_1999_255_97775.png

Well Trevor is aboard Atlantis. Which is a good thing right?

I wonder if this little tidbit in Chapter 5 might be a clue?

"The brightly colored plastic things with antennas are EPIRBs: emergency position-indicating radio beacons. When activated, they use satellites to report your position. Some of those are portables, some are category ones which mount to the side of a boat and deploy automatically if it sinks. Atlantis has two: a portable and a category one, attached to the top of the cockpit awning. The things that look like cell phones are satellite phones. I have one for Atlantis, but Dad makes me keep it in here except when I'm on a charter, because I made a few phone calls with it once and it cost a mint. The other stuff is mainly for navigation: GPS units, electronic charts, that kind of stuff. They're locked up because they're all very expensive."

Could there be the other EPIRB still mounted on the cockpit roof and was missed by Ali and his band of thugs? Trevor in his exhausted state would maybe not be thinking properly. Maybe some rest and hopefully some water (I wasn't mentioned that Ali took water, just the fuel) and some canned wieners :P cause Trevor bought a case of them and Ali only threw one can overboard and told the guys to leave the rest on the boat. Which could mean he has 23 cans of wieners to dine on.

As far as Ali's engines blowing:

'Have fun getting anywhere without engines,' he thought, allowing himself a brief moment of satisfaction as he envisioned the fine abrasive grit slowly destroying the trawler's engines. It wouldn't be quick, he knew, but in less than a day, they'd be dead in the water, with their engines ruined beyond repair.

So guessing distance and time is not really possible. I'm hoping 18 hours of running before they blow. Then good luck with Ali making it back to Atlantis with a Zodiac. Also, Ali had enough fear to abandon Atlantis as soon as the sun was coming up that I doubt he would try going back to where the left it to sink. Hopefully he gets rescued and then found with all of Atlantis's gear on board. Except this will make things more complicated for Jim and Dirk again if they the police find Ali and report to the police back in Florida :o

Lots to consider, but lets just not forget that is two cliffhangers in 2010 for CJ to be nominated for :P

B).............Remember Rachel has the Aries, could it be she keeps the Atlantis and refits it for Trevor while he continues his voyage on the Aries.

Yep, she is alive and well in Australia, the mystery is soon, yet to unravel is revealing the protagonists of this story to deal with. That being Bridget and George, with relief comedy brought to you by Dirk and Jim via the drag show of the year.

We need Gonzales to act soon, that way Sanchez can cut his loses when the feds start eying the two, no need to implicate Joel and Lisa yet, they think Trevor is out of communication and will not search for the Aries until he comes back anyways. If word gets back to Bridget that Trevor is still alive, will another attempt be made? Or will there be silence while the saga picks back into the investigation in Florida?

The Atlantis is not a right-off. The mast is intact. They only cut off the boom. It would be rather humorous for Ali to come back for the engines only to discover the Atlantis gone....

Bridget won't find out for quite a while. Trevor has no means of communication so he can't tell Joel or the sni...Lisa that he is alive. Assuming he can navigate....(wonder if his sextant is still on board) it will take weeks to get Australia. Ali shreded the map, but did he throw it out or is it still in the salon? If so with a sextant Trevor can navigate.

B)..............Errr! Trevor is naked so far he doesn't even have clothes, and the pirates stole everything, even that what was nailed down, what could Trevor possibly use as sails?? Trevor can most likely navigate without a sextant using the stars that CJ mentioned Trevor observing at least twice in the last chapter.

GREAT CHAPTER CJ, I knew you would pull Trevor through! :music:

I did say that the chapter title, "Crushed" was appropriate. :P

See? Chapter 48 wasn't a cliffie. :)

I'm really glad to see Trevor make it, but I still think CJ took hs near-death experience a bit too far. With any luck, maybe they'll leave the raft or Zodiac unattended while they go to work and maybe Trevor will be able to sneak on board before they become aware of it.

I'm hoping that one of our freedivers will weigh in. :)

I researched this extensively, but admittedly, I've never tried it. (and no, I don't intend to :P) My operating theory was that only the base of the hand would need to reduce, just slightly, to allow Trevor to pull free. The camps (a very similar method to what Houdini used, btw) plus the blood reloction, I hoped, would be just enough to make the small difference needed.

Trevor felt the weight belt drop, so he didn't need to see it. That would tell him which was was down. Also, there's an innate sense of up and down in the water, which you can test easily; in any pool or body of water deep enough, submerge, close your eyes, and spin multiple times. You can still feel which way is up. I've been thrown deep under in turbid water (lots of sand, so I had to keep my eyes shut) while surging many, many times (I wiped out a lot... My skill level was mediocre) and I always knew which way was up, even without light.

And Trevor did make himself a potential difficulty in the form of pirates stranded in the area.

But, fear not, Trevor did rescue his garlic crusher. :)

Gosh I hate to have them come back (they be like 60 miles away before their dead in the water ... barely enough fuel for a round trip with engines ... barely enough to tow atlantis back) ...

more suffering for a couple chapters CJ style

Good point on the ascent... what Trevor went through was an ordeal, and he's exuansted. I've had a ruptured eardrum and even just that is enough to make you dizzy and very tired.

Trevor is an excellent shot... his best move would be to let them get aboard and ambush them at close quarters (where a pistol is far better and handier than an AK) but it would be one hell of a bit of gunplay; he's got a six-shooter, and six targets. The normal procedure when shooting someone (and they way I always train) is the double-tap: shoot twice in rapid succession, putting two bullets in the target.

Suffering? What suffering? Trevor has just had a minor nautical inconvenience... 0:)

Trev lives. Dirk in drag. lol thats just funny.

Poor Dirk. LoL

OMG.. we all know CJ and that he can be really cruel.. but the garlic crusher... thats really f..ing unbeleivable.

How the heck do you come up with ideas like that !?

Lol. Great chapter !

Huh? Me? Cruel? When have I ever been cruel? 0:)

How did I come up with the garlic crusher idea? Easy... I'd been caught in a blackout, and after fumbling around searching I thought I had found a flashlight, but instead it was a power screwdriver.

Also, I figured that Trevor had to salvage something from the pirate ship. Also, bear in mind that the garlic crusher is not empty. There is a jar inside. A jar of what? It's in the text of chapter 15. :)

Another mystery!!!!:D

Atlantis is clearly a write-off (the narrator never lies!) so, assuming Trev makes it back to civilisation he can just fly back home.

Yes, a mystery! Thank you, Flipper! :2thumbs:

It doesn't say Atlantis is a write-off, just stripped and badly damaged. That may, or may not, make her a write-off. It's another mystery. :)

The title's promise will be delivered. Of course, Trevor is just about on the opposite side of the planet from Florida, so he could well end up flying home eastbound, which would fulfill the title. :P

Cliffhanger?!!! Cliffhanger??? How can a garlic crusher be a cliffhanger? Well, unless you're a clove of garlic, that is. :P

Atlantis had three EPIRBS. One was mounted in the cockpit, and is the type that auto-activates when submerged (and can be activated manually). One was in Trevor's ditch bag, and the third (the one he mistook for the garlic crusher) was in his nav desk drawer. We know the nav desk is gone...

And yes, Trevor's disappearance would have effects back home.. for Jim and Dirk, and also Jeol and Lisa (How long will Bridget wait before framing them with the coke?)

The Atlantis is not a right-off. The mast is intact. They only cut off the boom. It would be rather humorous for Ali to come back for the engines only to discover the Atlantis gone....

The sextant was in the nav desk drawer. In the short term, Trevor could navigate: he knew where he was, and can get direction from the stars and sun. But.. one can only get so far by dead reckoning. :)

But, feat not, Trevor has his garlic crusher!

And, in addition, I'd very much like to mention that I am not eligible for this year's King of Cliffhanger award. And yes, the preceding sentence is irrefutably true! :read::music:

C James: ""The title's promise will be delivered. Of course, Trevor is just about on the opposite side of the planet from Florida, so he could well end up flying home eastbound, which would fulfill the title. :P "

No, I'm referring to chapter 48 and 50 as the two entries for this year. Since some of us didn't listen to the little  on our shoulder and fall victim to his lies, we can rightfully claim chapter 48 as a evil cliffhanger. (BTW, I noticed MikeL hasn't certified 48 or 50 being cliffhanger free).

Without the usual 'I would never have anything to do with cliffs' and 'I would never write a cliffhanger' and other such nonsense, why I ask, are you exempt from this years awards?

CJ is correct about one thing, he had nothing to do with the discussion and voting for the rule change. The rule applies to any author who is nominated and wins the title two years in a row.

"And, ahem, didn't you agree, in writing, that there was no cliffhanger in 48? :P "

Sadly, news reports aren't always reliable

And, even if true, "Mr Cliff Hanger" could be an alias adopted as a purely ironic moniker :D

If I'm not mistaken, the name Cliff was given to CJ by our resident frog who also certifies chapters as not containing cliffhangers.
