Good thing that in France Justice can Justice can prohibit some names in the future interests of the child. The civil registrar can not refuse to register a first name in the register, but can inform the public prosecutor. This is the family judge who decides if the name is "contrary to the child's interest."

Not so long ago some people wanted to name their child Nutella  , some other Strawberry , Rihanna , Djaysie , Khaleesi , or just Baby

Rihanna is just the mis-spelling of a pagan goddess, Rhiannon. And the name of a kick-ass song by Fleetwood Mac:

Some of the names that we have around my country are so funny. For example, when we had a US Navy post many children in the area were named Usnavy.... We also had Usmail, Usair. Stevenson has been translated into Estivenson...

Funny how a name can be interpreted differently from one country to another. Last time I said my name to someone here that person thought I was some beeffy army guy cause my name's Marine. Marine was actually a very popular name is the 90' in France, one year in middle school we were 4 to have the same name.

If you want interesting and seemingly completely original/made up names, work at a mostly black school like me. As a white guy growing up in an all white area, I had never heard of 99% of my kid's names until I moved to the city.

La-a (translated to "Ladasha")

Kenyano (named after the country I guess).

Linguina (makes me think of Italian pasta)

Princess

I feel bad for these kids when they actually have to start applying for jobs as adults.

In college I actually had a classmate, daughter of African refugees, whose given name was Female. She pronounced it Feh-mahl-ye.

My sister and I had good southern names, unfortunately we grew up in the north. Also my sister has an unusual spelling.

There's this really funny anecdote in a book called Freakanomics, about naming babies and what they say about one's racial/socioeconomic background. One black mother wanted to name her daughter after Tempest Bledsoe on the Cosby Show. But she spelled it wrong and the baby was called Temptress, without the realization that it was A.) a misspelling, and B.) Temptress means a manipulative slut.

I've joked to people that my name sounds like a Witness Protection Program name it's so generic.

Well at least none of those automatically make me think of stripper poles or porno names.. so that's good. :P

Jessa and Bode I like, but living here people will pronounce Bode completely wrong.. so I'd have to spell it Bodie.. lol.
