Popular Post Aceinthehole Posted January 17, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2017 Personally I'm a huge hockey fan., all of my friends know if there's a game on, I'm most likely watching it. So having been a gay athlete in HS myself I've always wondered what the Pros would think of it. Luckily the NHL has always been progressive. Last year the Edmonton Oilers used Pride stick tape in their skills competitions, and the Washington Capitals held a pride night. Well lately Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand was asked about if a teammate came out. This is what he had to say: "Guys would accept that, no question. We're a team in the [dressing] room and a family. It doesn't matter what different beliefs guys have, or where they come from, or whatever the case may be. Guys would accept it. Again, in the room we're a family. That's the way it is on a hockey team, and that's the way it will always be."..."It's bound to happen at some point, and when it does, it will be accepted." So to everyone on the site, remember to never let stereotypes stand in your way. At the end of the day we are all born with the same potential 7
Headstall Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm a huge hockey fan too... Leafs play Sabres tonight! Thanks for sharing this... I always wondered if things were changing in the NHL... heard stories about quiet intolerance in the past... guys traded into oblivion if they were even suspected of being gay... 2

Aceinthehole Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 I'm glad to share. I'm thrilled at how the league has gotten so progressive. My Devils were supposed to have a pride night this season against the canucks, but it fell through a week before it actually got done. I wound up at the game anyway, which worked out because I got to see Hall obliterate Phillip Larsen in which has to be the hardest hit I've ever seen live (well besides the days of Stevens, but I was too young to remember any of that!) 1
Site Administrator Graeme Posted January 18, 2017 Site Administrator Posted January 18, 2017 Too Obvious which team I root for The honeybees? 1
QuinnDK Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Hockey fan myself (go Red Wings!) The NHL is much more progressive than people think. That's a wonderful statement from Brad Marchand. Hopefully, we'll get an out and proud NHL player one day... 1
wenmale64 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I am not a fan of any sport in general, so simply YEA Teams . I do appreciate the positive comments made by pro players of any sport or atheletic endevor in reference to acceptance of any LGBT individual. People see pros on TV all the time, so seeing a positive interaction can do nothing but help gain acceptance for all people. Hopefully we will see more tolerance and acceptance throughout the world....... 1
