Larry Davis Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Quick Question: Do any of you draw inspiration from old and new newspaper articles? 3
Site Administrator Graeme Posted May 26, 2018 Site Administrator Posted May 26, 2018 Sometimes. My short story Street Life was partly inspired by a newspaper report on the street boys of St. Kilda back in the 80s. I've also had a recent story idea that was inspired by a news report on a recent incident here in Australia (though I'm still not sure if it'll develop into something that will be published -- too many other things on my plate). As an author, I take inspiration from a lot of sources. Newspaper articles are just one of the potential sources. 2
Site Administrator Valkyrie Posted May 26, 2018 Site Administrator Posted May 26, 2018 I've read news articles before and thought of story ideas, although I don't always write them. One of my antho stories was inspired by an article I read in a magazine. Like Graeme, I also take inspiration from a variety of sources. 2

I don't personally, but when I took a Creative Fiction Writing class during college I read a short story about a husband who turns into a raven. The story was inspired by a title from a tabloid magazine and I think the author used the same title for his story. I thought that was very interesting for the author to take some crazy title and create a short story out of it. 2
