His pride stung worse than the Bind. He had spent a week flexing his independence only to be taken down by a localized ambush in a cow pasture. He struggled against the spell, his muscles screaming against the magical paralysis. “Looks kind of small for a Death Eater,” the first voice noted. “Could be a seventh-year Slytherin trying to get a mark. They must be getting desperate.” They reached the perimeter of the house, and the voices rose. “MUM, COME QUICK!” Ginny Weasley’s voice pierced the air. “THEY’VE GOT ONE! THEY’VE GOT A DEATH EATER!” The commotion erupted. Harry heard the back door bang open and the heavy thud of multiple sets of feet hitting the porch. CRACK. A shriek of pure, unadulterated rage tore through the night. “YOU WILL RELEASE KREACHER’S MASTER IMMEDIATELY!” The world turned into a cacophony of shouts and magical discharges. Harry heard the distinct thwack of something solid hitting flesh, followed by Fred Weasley yelling in pain. Kreacher was a whirlwind of ancient, vengeful magic and physical violence. “ENOUGH! Kreacher! You will stop!” Remus’s voice boomed over the din, authoritative and sharp. But Kreacher wasn't listening to a "Wolf." Harry felt the Body-Bind snap as the counter-curse hit him. He collapsed to the ground, tore the burlap sack from his head, and threw back his hood in one fluid, furious motion. He blinked against the sudden light of the back porch. The scene was pure chaos. Bill and Mr. Weasley had their wands out, looking bewildered. Remus was halfway across the yard, looking horrified. And in the center of it all, Kreacher was hanging wildly from Fred’s shoulder, screaming Black family curses while trying to beat the twin over the head with a particularly large and angry garden gnome. I went back and forth on whether to reply because I was afraid it might sound like I'm criticising you, which is very much not my intention. That snippet looks good, but I'm unlikely to read any kind of Harry Potter fanfiction. I don't want to think about J. K. Rowling because of her transphobia, and I have a few online trans friends. But, of course writing fanfiction based on her work doesn't make you transphobic, my avoidance of anything related to her is a me thing. 1 2 Quote
