    A Resolution

Its the soapbox Tim. As long as you don't insult people nobody gives a flying shit what you or anyone else says. You don't need to be objective, sensitive or even reasonable in there and E=mc^2 knows we have that demonstrated to us almost every day by various participants. People get offended because they have a poor outlook on what is important in life, and rank disagreement with a near-stranger high on their priority list, you don't need to pay any attention to that.
  6. I don't have any particular issues with Apple products, just with the company. Their products are, imo, over priced. And that as you mentioned they are extremely restrictive with how they allow people to use their products.

Looks like Treb's forum avatar. Who's hand is who's?
  8. I agree too xD
  9. Yay, I have two too! One to put my head on and one to cuddle.
  10. Is he really different to all the others? I was worried about discrepancy in information too. I've not been actively lying, but I'm not above misleading if someone asks a question I don't want to tell them the answer to. Thats not materialised though. In real life I'm less argumentative, quieter, less overtly opinionated, nicer, and I react to what people have said using my face and tone more than words which I use here (because I can't do proper faces here ). I'm mostly argumentative here because people seem to feel free to run roughshod over others online, and say stuff like 'Ok, you disagree with me.. and I'm a mod.. KICKBAN' whereas in real life.. there is no facility for that so people have to be more reasonable towards each other. That said, I am still the same person reacting in this situation the way I would if it appeared in real life.. it's other people who are different .
  11. To a certain extent dog behaviour is caused by humans. But then again, they are animals bred for war and hunting, descended from wolves! So you have to question how much of that behaviour is actually inherent in them. Dogs which attack people should be put down as defective, because whoever's fault that is.. they are defective (or living within their undesirable genetic makeup.. either way) and there is no curing that.
  12. Thank you everyone . I feel I should nip this in the bud though, as its not actually my birthday. You can keep wishing me happy birthdays for my real birthday if you like, though.

  15. Does Arpeggio have a bet riding on this?
  16. . I don't want to look like I've had a bowl cut either .
  17. I didn't realise this was 2006 either! LabRat, eh. I wonder what happened to the OP. They've not been active for almost 2 years so we'll probably never find out.. perhaps someone could write an ending .
  18. I think that is a natural phenomenon . I also think that the radiation link was disproved quite recently, some 'long term trends' study which showed that children growing up near mobile phone masts were no more likely to develop cancer than those who didn't. Poll nitpick time. When you say 'filtered out by the atmosphere', are you including the planetary magnetic field in that? Best advice I can give about dealing with radiation: know what you're dealing with.. e.g. don't wear lead gloves and a helmet for dealing with UV.. it's not necessary.. if you suspect it is dangerous, keep your distance. particle radiation is often attenuated by the atmosphere, and waves obey the inverse square law. glowing blue is dangerous. Cherenkov radiation is an indicator that various nuclear reactions are occuring. don't eat or breathe anything radioactive.
  19. I think that to an extent cold and hot snaps are discountable. They cause what is called 'the harvester effect', eg all the already weak people who will die in the next few weeks instead die in the snap.
  20. ....who? I'm glad you covered who she is in your post .
  21. I was going to make a quip about a less active imagination . Implication does factor a lot in verbal communication here. Tone of voice and expression are critical cues as to which particular implication is intended. I've never particularly thought of it as abnormal though. The degree to which this is true does depend on where specifically in the country you are from, and what your background (country of origin, wealth, education, upbringing) is. It is sometimes difficult to communicate precisely on the internet, because without the intonation and expression there is no opportunity to expand on the context of a word so a word which the writer may be habitually using as meaning one thing because it is so strongly context laden.. might not actually make sense in the sentence. Interesting links. I'd never thought of society in those terms before. Perhaps it can be best described by saying that communication is a tapestry of euphemisms and metaphors.
  22. Ah this man. Idiot! He seems so shocked when it explodes in his face! If you don't want an analysis to ruin your fun... I once tried making thermite and lighting it with a match. Luckily, my stupidity weighed down both sides evenly, and the mixture was both not fine enough to combust in my face and was not going to be ignited by a match. It was only years later that I realised just how hot 'up to 2500C' is when my then chemistry teacher demonstrated thermite as an 'end of term wow'. I saw thermite shatter a 2 inch thick pyrex basin filled with (at a guess)20 litres of cold water! I think the 'Oh Sh!t!' look my accomplices and I shared across the room somewhat detracted from the 'wow'.
  23. Its never acceptable to hit anyone unless defending yourself. I apply that policy equally across genders because if someone hits you, they should be prepared to deal with the consequences or they should not have hit you. Some people think you should never (no exceptions) hit a woman, which I find ridiculous. That school of thought stems from the idea that women are all weak little creatures who should be protected by a big strong champion of a man. This is insulting to women, men and clearly not true.
  24. I'm coming, pretty much whatever the arrangements. =P *sees droves of people changing their mind about coming*
  25. Cannot imagine you being unladylike .... . Cute lead. The concept is interesting too.
