I agree we could all see this mess brewing. Makes the house in Hawaii more valuable.

Seems to me a lot of our dear readers have once again forgotten the fact that Will is a teenager, an adolescent. Will is emancipated so he gets a little more leeway in his actions than the average teenager. But why get upset about a fictional character? I raised my two nephews who had to get away from a bad home situation, and it was always a challenge, but they turned out okay. I just don't see Will going down the self destructive path as someone we see everyday in real life, like Justin B****** So let's all sit back and read this story, but please give up on telling Mark how to write it.

Happy New Year to all the Will haters. Will is still very much an adolescent.............I think ten years later all the angst will subside and Will becomes the man we all want him to be. Thanks Mark for this inside look at the mind of a growing boy.

Merry Christmas, Mark Thank you for all the fabulous writing you give to us. To give us TWO incredibly well written stories at the same time is something we all cherish. Best Christmas wishes to you and all the other readers ! David

I spent a lot of time at Cate School in Carpentaria, a school where the top 1% send their kids. Bad table manners did not exist. These kids know the other students would not put up with obnoxious behavior, especially concerning sports. Ethan is putting on a show and Nana will bring him around soon enough. Opposites attract, so maybe JJ might find Ethan interesting.

I love Will's character in this story, but there's a lot more to the CAP saga. Would like to see more of the adult side of things for a change. The war that is coming, the "Homeland Security" bullshit, the "Patriot Act" bullshit. A lot of things changed as a result of 911, most of them not so good. Mark, thank you for keeping your fingers busy and warm just to bring us this wonderful story.

"It was glorious, absolutely glorious, to be back at sea." We have all been waiting for this chapter. Things are looking up for our favorite captain!

A "true English breakfast" is so much better than any breakfast in Thailand.........

Really like this story, always had a fantasy about twins. Things are looking up for Luke. “Can you, could you not tell anyone? I’m not out yet.” So Erin is not slamming the door on coming out. Seems like the soccer team is cool about their gay captain. Complication? I'm guessing Luke's former boyfriend will become the green eyed monster.

Starting to see something between Zach and Gathan “He’ll start out by being really nice to you, then he’ll ask you for shit, and when you don’t give him what he wants, he’ll work you and work you until you do,” he said. I blinked at him, so amazed that he thought that would work with me. ..... “Ha ha ha,” Gathan said sarcastically. “How’d you get around the fact that he grabs his ankles like a pro, and then claims he’s not gay?” This story does have a smattering of incest and I think there's more to be known about these two.

Thanks for this posting. I was beginning to have withdrawal pains. Going to be interesting to see how Ethan fits in. Kept an open mind waiting for the 'new kid'. Now I see that you are giving all of us a challenge to accept an unknown person into this very complicated story.

It's sad, its so sad It's a sad, sad situation And it's getting more and more absurd It's sad, so sad Why can't we talk it over Oh, it seems to me That sorry seems to be the hardest word

Proof again what a great writer can do with just the mention of a new character. We have not yet met Ethan and the speculation is all over the map.. I will assume that Mark has some really good ideas and we can only wait and watch.

Brilliant writing. One door closes and another door opens..........

Thank you Mark for putting in the reference to Dick Cheney. Cheney is the epitome of all the " I'm more of a patriot than you" jerks in Washington. Bush was a wimp and Cheney was a bully.

The many steps of recovery from a tragedy never happen exactly according to a rigid formula. Different triggers cause the process to be one step forward and two steps back. Finally we get to hear more from JJ. So far my impressions of JJ have not been favorable, but he could turn out to be a very interesting character. I have followed pro figure skating for a long time and most skaters reveal very little of their personal life (except Johnny Weir). We just don't know enough about JJ yet.

Once again you take us off to another angle of this complex family. Waited all weekend for this post and it was worth it. Perhaps the teacher deliberately provoked the outburst. Now the whole school knows and can leave the poor kid alone.

Fortunately my boss is out of town today so I could read this chapter at work. Talleyrand is one of the more colorful characters you have incorporated into this saga. Had to go back to Wikipedia for the quick story of Talleyrand. Money and prestige serves Granger quite well. Hope our hero gets back to London soon.

Driving from Santa Barbara to Santa Maria, California thru the 154 mountain pass. Old people in their motorhomes driving on a winding, narrow mountain road at half the speed limit. Young rich kids driving their daddy's expensive sports cars at twice the speed limit. Cops around every bend trying to boost the budget by writing a lot of tickets. And it's one of the most beautiful, scenic drives in America.

Well............I admit to having sex with some of my male cousins. But I could not think of doing any female relatives. That would be like incest or something creepy. Way to go Mark. This completely blindsided me.

This is really getting to me. As a nation we are never getting over 9/11. Just like Pearl Harbor for my grandparents. I guess now would be a good time to start re-reading CAP from the very beginning to fully understand how we got to this point.

Looks like JJ will suffer the most, no more private jets for a while. I remember air traffic was stopped for a very long time. The whole family will be stuck in place for days. Maybe now a lot of time for the family to resolve a lot of issues. Glad to see Nana back in the story.

Mark in all of his infinite wisdom chose Robbie. It hurts us because we see these characters as real people we have grown to know. I hope this fork in the road does not lead to reading very much coming from JJ. Of all the characters in this saga, JJ does not appeal to me.

Chapter 38: Survivors and Victims
davewri commented on Mark Arbour's story chapter in Chapter 38: Survivors and Victims
You brought me to tears. I knew it was coming and I couldn't stop reading. You are a truly gifted writer. I did not personally know anyone that was involved, but these characters affected me as if I really did know them. Job well done! -
Senator Danfield was not on my list of possible casualties, but he earned his place. Molesting his son and cheating on his wife............ None of the "good guys" have perished yet. I hope for the best.
