*shrugs* My kids, 8 and 5, love books and reading. We read to them 5 nights a week, and they each either read to us (my boy is just learning) or to themselves every day as well. They love a trip to the used bookstore just as much as a trip to the toy store and we do the library every 3 weeks and have been doing the summer reading program since they were toddlers. They still play video and computer games, but it is all about moderation. You're right though, it takes dedicated parenting to give your children a love of books. My husband doesn't read anything beyond magazines but I'm a self-confessed book-a-holic. I'd rather be reading than doing damn near anything else 99% of the time. Reading got me through my childhood and provided an escape in a small town where there weren't a lot of options; I want my kids to have the same adventures I did as I was transported to Arrakis, Pern, medieval England, space, alternative earths and futures! My kids take books to the dr. waiting room or on car trips, even in this day and age of video games (which they own too). I have copies of LoTR, Dune, Little House on the Prairie, HP, Eragon, Anne of Green Gables, the Pern-dragonrider series, Lemony Snickets... just waiting for them.

Who you are attracted to is such a negligible part of what makes a person who they are. It bothers me, and I simply don't understand, how anyone can be that stressed about it. But, I'm bi, and I've never really worried about it one way or the other. I'm lucky though, and I know many others aren't the same. Funny funny Yang I'm with Mari on the way that gender is very secondary. Thanks btw, hun, for thinking I do the genre justice! I do try not to feminize my men, even if they aren't butch types. For me, a good story is a good story. For example, in the last day and a half I've read quite a few ebooks. One was a mfm where the 2 friends grew together and have always shared women but aren't into each other, 5 mm stories, 3 mf stories, and a mm story that had a secondary ff and mf grouping. That's a grand total of about 280k. (I know, I read a LOT) I could care less about the couple, or the sex. For me it is the interaction between the two that leads me to enjoy the romance between them, regardless of their gender. Add in an inventive or creative plot with action or mystery or drama beyond them and I'm a happy gal. I don't typically read ff because it does seem to be sappy overdone romance or sex PWP stories for the most part, but maybe I'm just not finding the right ones. I write mm because I have the audience for it. The same with the mf stories, though my audience is less, so I write that less. I'm just into reading a great story. I could care less about the couple's dangly bits, or lack thereof, if they're written well.

Lugh was the first author I stalked on GA. He was the first one I conned into letting me read what he was writing before it went on the site. He will always be one of my favorite writers, plus he's a good friend!

I beta read for a lot of people. If I know a grammar rule, or see misspelled words I do point them out, but I don't claim to know all that much since I'm constantly learning myself. Beta reading is easy though, and I often get a sneak peek of the stories my favorite authors are writing by helping them out. Great tip!

I happen to believe vampires are mythology. That, in my mind, is fair game to be twisted however you wish. So... they can if you say they can! Just make sure that whatever rules you put in place for your alternative reality are consistent and you follow them.
