  1. I know, I was only joking. For the record, there’s no such thing as US English. There’s English, then there’s the version where the S is swapped for a Z, the U is removed to save ink, and a few words are changed just enough to avoid accusations of plagiarism. <wink>
  2. Sounds perfect!
  3. I lived in the Nederlands for two years through work, enjoying this.
  4. Should be "Do you speak UKish"
  5. I agree that Owen and Margot are getting far too comfortable with a lie that could end up costing them both something real.
  6. Scottish accents are probably my favourite. Honestly, ridiculously seductive. The way some words come out, like “medium (meejum)” or “food (fud)”, just makes me weak. Even the strong ones you mention, like Glaswegian.
  7. This song by Max McNown (and the whole album) inspired me to write again. There’s just something really honest about his lyrics. Amazing.

    Chapter Two

Exactly. The family investigation would fall apart the second anyone asked how they found his profile!

    Chapter One

Owen’s family have planned his entire life, and he’s only been consulted about the pot roast! Looking forward to reading more of this.
  10. Only just found this, so I’m arriving about four years late. Good for me that I don’t have to wait seven months for it.
  11. It’s ridiculous that Jay decides Loren is his future husband before Loren even knows who he is, but somehow it works. Looking forward to reading this.

    Hurly-Burly

The Hurlys are absolute chaos, but Gram quietly knowing everything was my fav part, and built-fat, what a great description, loved it!

    Avoidance

You always seem to catch the little plot beats I tuck in and hope people notice. Mark, Josh, Lewis—you’ve joined more dots than Harry has. And your grandfather may have understood the Glasgow weather better than any of us. Whisky as a food group seems entirely reasonable.

    Avoidance

Harry could miss the obvious if it sat on his desk wearing a lanyard saying “OBVIOUS”. Sam won’t give him long.

    Avoidance

Harry has a real talent for turning self-protection into friendly fire. Emma is right, which is probably why he hates hearing it.
  16. Courtney had Greg clocked in about five minutes. Fed him, flirted with him and more or less claimed him. Meanwhile, the photographer is heading for a no-camera party, so that should all go beautifully.
  17. I agree with @pvtguy and @weinerdog. Poor Levi has finally found somewhere safe and supportive, but he’s still carrying so much of what he was taught. The battle going on in his own head is probably going to be the hardest part. You’ve captured that struggle really well. I’m also curious to see where things go with the mystery blond from school.
  18. Just before four on Friday, a cold energy drink appeared beside Harry’s laptop. No fuss. No comment. Just left there, sweating onto the desk while he kept his eyes on the screen. “Looked like you could do with it,” Lewis said. It was the second week of November, and Harry had barely seen Lewis all day. Some conference in Glasgow, Karen had mentioned in passing. Lewis had come back half an hour earlier, hoodie dark from the rain, damp hair pushed back from his forehead, and had passed H

Three men in a boat made me laugh. If they’re not all in the same one, Harry has probably ended up with the one with a hole in it. James is definitely a flirt and yes, Lewis is harder to read. There is more behind the marriage, and behind the way he behaves now, but Harry is not exactly known for asking the right questions. And yes, of course he accepted the invitation. Not because he wanted to go, but because saying no would have meant explaining himself, and Harry would rather walk into a disaster than do that. As for the box ... I’m glad you noticed it. Carl

    New normalish

Noah’s clearly trying, but it feels like he’s carrying more than he knows what to do with.

    Chapter 1

Great start. Matt’s mum handled that badly. I’m guessing Julie’s return means there’s a child involved, but I’m probably wrong.

I love this read of it. James’ ambiguity is definitely intentional, but Lewis is a different kind of mess altogether. The “speak to your dad” line is one of those little comments I’m happy to let sit there for now. Harry only overhears fragments, so the reader is stuck with the same uncomfortable uncertainty he is. And yes, the Christmas party may not be the safest environment for suppressed thoughts, poor choices, or office equipment. Carl

    Adjustment

James being awful would definitely make Harry’s life easier, but unfortunately he’s chosen the deeply inconvenient route of being handsome and decent. Bastard indeed. Harry is definitely carrying a mix of self-deprecation and low self-esteem, though he hides it under sarcasm where he can. And yes, photocopiers are absolutely hostile workplace entities.

Thank you, that honestly means a lot. I’m glad the ambiguity is working and not just driving you mad. I really wanted the characters to feel messy and real.

Ah, Lewis, what a .. catch.
