Chapter 29 (Pending) is finished, ironically named, but anyway. I’m now on Chapter 30, and it’s taking some wrestling because it’s a hard one to write.

Just putting this out there. I write with character images alongside the chapters. I know most readers prefer not to see how I picture them, which is completely fair, but if you’d like to see anyone, message me directly and tell me who. I promise, no spoilers.

Connor is 20, so five years younger than James. We find that out in Patterns (Chapter 13), during the completely normal family anecdote where James reveals Connor once set their… Well, you’ll have to wait for that one.

Somewhere between pressing the crossing button and the green man appearing, Harry’s mind drifted back to Lewis. Not what had almost happened in the stairwell, but what had come after: Lewis saying he wasn’t confused about wanting him, the words real and useless in equal measure. He walked to Emma’s with his collar turned up, one hand buried deep in his pocket, the other gripping the strap of his bag. The streets stretched damp and familiar ahead of him, washed in streetlamp glow. Christmas light

The name recycling is the obvious mistake, but I think the bigger problem is that everything feels over-described and under-lived (typical AI). It keeps reaching for dramatic phrases instead of letting the scene breathe. It’s not that any one line is unforgivable, although “sky the color of a bruised plum” is trying very, very hard. It’s that the whole thing has that AI habit of stacking mood on mood until nothing feels natural anymore.

This was chaotic and emotional. A great finale!

Quiet, natural, and really earned. You can feel them becoming a unit.
