Brilliant! You could feel the attempt at control and then sudden loss. While the thought of physical intimacy in the wild is quite a turn on, some how, in my humble experince, it rarely produces the best sex! But here and now we have gone through the first gate...looking forward to the next one!

"He had always said capitalism would be the great equalizer..." while I understand your point, that statement on its own and unqualified can't go unchallenged. Not in the world we live in now.

Apologies...I meant "corporal punishment"....and was referring to "...can’t imagine Grandpa ever spanking you,” I said. “Did he really?” “Unfortunately. And with a belt and an audience..."

Love the last line; sums him up well. Thanks for this enjoying the character development. Not sure about the "public capital punishment" school of parenting. I think there are many children that would be seriously negativly affected by the humiliation, and not in a way that corrected some (perceived) failing.

I love the casual pbysicality of the ending! Grrat depiction of the french court in exile: seeds of their future destruction well and truly sowed. Thanks for more Grainger. Excellent read as ever!

Eye Candy at the Fitness Center
Canuk commented on Tallguyct's story chapter in Eye Candy at the Fitness Center
I'm same height but 77kg, but probably just as unfit. I did use a personal trainer and admit it was the best thing I ever did. Nothing like eye candy to really make you put in an effort! Sadly, im back at work so no time for trainers! -
Grainger seems to make excellent use of his "resources" whether money is involved or not!

Our Grainger does have an interesting life! Being buggered by the heir to the French King in exile, buying a sackful of diamonds, and travelling in a sleigh with its own fireplace while making love to a Prussian... my days just don’t compare! Great story, really does make me feel good! Thanks.

As if i would even think that you did not do research! I'll bet you know the speed of sleighs on ice! I just imagined Riga as darker and further north than that...but you are right (!) It is some 7 degrees further south than Winnipeg, and probably 12+ degrees further south than where I was!

Amazing tension thoughout this chapter. While I have not travelled in Russia in winter I have travelled in northern Canada. The thought of being in an open sleigh on the shortest day, no matter how many bear skins (malodorous or otherwise) makes me shiver. As for the daylight hours, i am surprised they are as long as 7 hours. Somehow I imagined it to be like Canada, 5-6 hours. Riga must be further south, in comparison. Great story. Very tense. Glad Grainger is travelling with a tension-reliever!😉😚

This epilogue is doing wonders for my understanding of this insanely bizzarro family! Unlike some of your other readers, Mark, who seemed to be able to keep the complexities in their frontal lobes, I needed a note book! Even then I seemed to be continually surprised. A very enjoyable summation/revelation. The statement that family "is the ultimate social unit" (or so thinks Brad) is one of those statements that feels all nice and cuddly on the surface, but at a deeper level is very 19th century and the sort of thinking that actually doesnt help the growth of civil society (IMHO anyway!) Thank you for writing intelligent fiction.

Interesting retelling of the Atlantis myth. The description of the fight was excellent: economical with words but enough detail to make it easy to visualise.

"His normally effective remedy for such situations, to envision a naked Lady Elgin, was fortunately effective in this case as well." what an amazingly line! The very thought of that of Lady is enough to make any man impotent! great chapter! Glad Granger managed to enjoy the use of a sauna again... thanks

Great chapter. The sheer complexity of making complicated naval, diplomatic and commercial decisions on the smallest possible information; its amazing the 19th century made it from one end to the other! On the other hand recent events could say that instant communication just leads to instant chaos. I suppose this all goes to prove the world needs more Graingers! Awesome read! Thanks.

Mr von Galen...I suspect a little warmth just when its needed! (He says getting directly to the heart of the chapter!) How could we not suspect that a key proffered by a dying man would not lead our hero into dangerous territory! Excellent read, as ever!

Certainly a challenge, tho' hopefully within a few weeks, on the off chance Phillip's not dead, Elisa will have recovered.... otherwise its going to be a long Roman holiday!

Heavy drama! If anyone ever says, "hey! Im being abused, but lets keep it between ourselves", i'd have to ask why do you want me to protect an abuser? Well written about a very difficult but all too prevalent subject. Thanks

Mr Arbour, you certainly know how to raise every bloody passion, sacred, profane and cliffy! I am glad our hero managed to get warmed up...as we move towards what Sydney Australia calls winter (below 20c) I understand his need! While saddened at Cochrane's death, the key adds intrigued. I just hope that wretched Tsar dies soon, before he gets to either Daventry or my beloved Grainger. Thanks you and, needless to say, the next para is awaited with 'bated breath!😀

As Gary L said above, amazing rhythm to this chapter. Again it shows what a deeply romantic soul our Viscount has. And also how protective he has to be of it to make sure it doesnt interfere with his rational side. It will be interesting to see if what ends our hero's career is not a battle or losing at Court but some one who manages to get through to that soul to the point that Grainger cannot continue his career. Great story and read as ever. Glad you, Mr Arbour , have both got your groove back and are enjoying it!

Mr Arbour! Enlisting Clausewitz into the dramatis personae was a master stroke. Our beloved hero must be mentioned in that mans writings! I agree with your comment that captain Lord Grainer will comfort us in our period of captivity. Tho' i am not sure he will make it pass faster, just more luxuriously!😉 Thanks and un like the last two of my comments on your writing, which I happen to make on Saturday evenings and therefore after a couple of daiquiris, I will try and make my next comment more literary and pointed as to your excellence as a writer, rather than alluding to the jollies your characters provide me! 😍
