Great chapter. The sheer complexity of making complicated naval, diplomatic and commercial decisions on the smallest possible information; its amazing the 19th century made it from one end to the other! On the other hand recent events could say that instant communication just leads to instant chaos. I suppose this all goes to prove the world needs more Graingers! Awesome read! Thanks.

Mr von Galen...I suspect a little warmth just when its needed! (He says getting directly to the heart of the chapter!) How could we not suspect that a key proffered by a dying man would not lead our hero into dangerous territory! Excellent read, as ever!

Mr Arbour, you certainly know how to raise every bloody passion, sacred, profane and cliffy! I am glad our hero managed to get warmed up...as we move towards what Sydney Australia calls winter (below 20c) I understand his need! While saddened at Cochrane's death, the key adds intrigued. I just hope that wretched Tsar dies soon, before he gets to either Daventry or my beloved Grainger. Thanks you and, needless to say, the next para is awaited with 'bated breath!😀

As Gary L said above, amazing rhythm to this chapter. Again it shows what a deeply romantic soul our Viscount has. And also how protective he has to be of it to make sure it doesnt interfere with his rational side. It will be interesting to see if what ends our hero's career is not a battle or losing at Court but some one who manages to get through to that soul to the point that Grainger cannot continue his career. Great story and read as ever. Glad you, Mr Arbour , have both got your groove back and are enjoying it!

Mr Arbour! Enlisting Clausewitz into the dramatis personae was a master stroke. Our beloved hero must be mentioned in that mans writings! I agree with your comment that captain Lord Grainer will comfort us in our period of captivity. Tho' i am not sure he will make it pass faster, just more luxuriously!😉 Thanks and un like the last two of my comments on your writing, which I happen to make on Saturday evenings and therefore after a couple of daiquiris, I will try and make my next comment more literary and pointed as to your excellence as a writer, rather than alluding to the jollies your characters provide me! 😍

《Sigh!》 He's back! ( I'll let the reader decide whether the exclamation is for the good captain or our wonderful author!) I will admit when it seemed that his Lordships gaydar had failed and the nordic/germanic demi god was not to be his, I did feel sad for our hero. But it just shows that my leaping to conclusions was, as ever, wrong! So great to have Grainger back and physically restored, the best way possible. Even greater thanks to Graingers creator, lord and master, for this chapter and the promise of a few more. You have gladdened this (late) middle aged man's...heart. 😙👍

What a truly bizarre reaction to ANY story, let alone this one. Ill admit in trying to make sense of your response, I had to reread the story to see what I had skipped. I am not sure that i have ever seen a pre-teen tantrum in writing before. May you and your god be happy in your closed minded bigotry.

To misquote a statement above - a wonderful re-entry, possibly almost as good as the one our very dear Grainger is about to experience! I do wish Daventry well, and hope we have not seen the last of him. I have missed our randy, uber-capable, lucky and handsome sailor. As I have told my husband on several occaisions, my next husband will be the mirror of Captain the honourable Viscount Grainger! Thank you Mr Arbour for making our isolation just that little bit better (even with my second choice husband!)

Delightful story raising an interesting ethical conundrum; if taking life is wrong, who has done wrong if the potential victim takes the life of their murderer first? Self defence.... un proveable, but we are not looking at a trial, just our own need to justify our actions. Secondly, gaining respectibility through murder is so very Rigby Taylor! Thanks!

I liked the different responses to the film. I have to admit I do not understand Simon's reponse at all; not every film is the Sound of Music and as for that scene with the shirts that was one of the most amazing demonstrations in any movie of the deepest love between a couple.

Hmmm..yes, like both major characters, but someone unpacking boxes and arranging furniture in my home...no! Waaaay too intrusive, verging stalker! So Johnny is eminently f'able, suckable and a won'erful toy....that sets off alarm bells for me rather than "bestie" vibes. Great writing! Enjoyable stuff...

I agree, however I think the initial plan was for a short jump in term of both time period and time duration. So the time jump he has taken is nothing he was prepared for!

Amazing chapter (despite geting no notification it had been posted....). I am glad you got Aubrey to see through Tom before the wedding. If it had happened afterwards it would have created just another layer of complexity!
