you certainly write inner turmoil very well! the "not standing up for someone" would touch just about everyone - school yards are very hard places and "different" does not do well. man at his most animal. without education we are a very uncivilised bunch.....

Really? Undoubtedly there are men like that, but IMHO and in my limited (ish!) experience a lot of guys would have that reaction. two reasons: do you really want to have sex with someone who has NFI? and second, there is a risk of huge regret after the event and do you really want to cope with that? just found this story and really enjoying it! great writing. Thanks

that is a huge understatement!!! tho' in rereading Hornblower after reading the Grainger stories, the absence of sex seems weird! -
"and its not even scary" - never a truer sentence. That feeling that occurs, for some anyway, when all this independence that as a teenager you had been striving for at every opportunity, suddenly becomes absolutely meaningless when you find "the one". great writing. the scene greeting his mum; not knowing how it should go, but knowing that how its going is not what you want or need..... Thnaks

i get the feeling that by not opening his father's letters his missing something....and not a bad something..... enjoying the story.... keep it up!

Our hero is able to charm the French, the spanish, some of the top brass in England and even some of the Ottomans, but when get gets an enemy be it a Wilcox or Sawyer, he gets an implacable enemy. Great story, love Hornblowers role. Thank you.

I am very much enjoying the story, but I am warning you, one more self centred, idiotic, unthinking juvenile outburst by our hero, Cal, and I will personally intervene and slap him. He really is a well drawn if infuriating character. Looking forward to next installment...😆

can't quite see how he'll end up in gaol again. There is still hate speech and defending yourself against hate speech must count for something.... you'd hope. Meanwhile I am not sure there is a pit deep enough for Mark, unless his rant hid deeper pain....

Great story. Two things; the 1k word limit on chapters, why? I read the story in one sitting so it didnt meqn much to me, but if i was limited to 800 words a week, i would have gone stir crazy! Second. If this story about how the US military treats its wounded returned service personnel is based on fact then I am even ore disgusted by them that i thought. Treys treatment was verging on criminal. Other than that I really enjoyed it, looking forward to the sequel!

having just read "Odyssey" in almost-but-not-quite one sitting, it is an amazing tale. while for purposes of literature it was always going to end well, the twists and turns, the successes and, failures, conniving and conniptions on the path have made this a truly wonderous tale. Congratulations. Now if Americans could only sort out and differentiate between their donkeys and their arses....

i am surprised that Granger was not more impressed by the Alhambra. While the new palace would have been similar to what Granger had seen in GB, the Alhambra is something a hell of a lot more cultured, cultivated and beautiful than anything else in Europe at that time.

I, too, am rereading the story with the same attempt to forget the future!, it gets harder the closer I get.... But that the story still keeps my interest and the tension is still tension shows me that our friend Mark Arbour is a master writer!

I had my old topsiders, looking slightly worse for wear, until 1999 or 2000 when i moved to Canada. They were worth every penny paid for them!
