We Lift Them Up To The Lord
Canuk commented on Sean J Halford's story chapter in We Lift Them Up To The Lord
Great story, well except for "nzer invented the flat white": in yer bloody dreams mate! Thanks, looking forward to more.... -
another great chapter. Ace you have Teddy behaving perfectly, even if he has some emotional trauma. Ryder is still an immature bastard!! Great read!!
-
great start to the next chapter. That said you have written one of the greatest self-righteous pricks in Ryder. You have given him some great self-pitying drivel for lines: "even Tommy got cancer mid tour". If Teddy fall for this, then you have also created one of the worlds blindest lovers!! Thanks for the read!

assumptions do make fools of us all. I can see Andy full of the Good That He Is Going To Do! so well meaning, but so naive. Erik, so hoping that life will change.... once again, really well written. Thanks
-
beautifully and sensitively written. Saying "I'm gay" out loud is one of those things that does shake one a bit. At his age, I can imagine how it must have felt. Very well drawn character. Thanks

The conversation with Jake was one of the more surprising things I have read. The writing about his issues, his response to his issues, how both have sent him down paths he doesn't quite seem comfortable with, at least not completely, was very forceful. Great writing. Thanks.

Awesome scene. The balance of desperation and reluctance, wanting to participate but not wanting to lose it. Great writing. Thanks.

Jeez, mate, talk about hard stuff. Ryders off his tree and Teddy is going to be made to suffer. Brandon is going to have to be the hero here, and convince the band that if they don't intervene there will be no Ryder, no Messiah, no nothing.

"5 degrees below absolute zero" 😆 I think our hero got a little carried away! If a person is unprepared for the cold, it is life endangering. We loved in Winnipeg and walking to work at neg 47 is something that requires much prep. Driving is in fact easier; there is no mush and very little loose snow, its just too cold. I worry for grandmama. I hope she is alright. Great story. Thanks.

Grainger's skills on land are starting to equal his skills at sea...and in bed... I am so glad his relationship with Caroline is back on an even keel; it will make things that much easier for him while he is away freezing his arse off in the Baltic (tho' with Cavendish along...) thanks, another great chapter....

I know so many people have hideous "coming out" stories, but I do think there are are quite a few that are just like this. My own "coming out" story was similar. I came out to my mother as we were trying to fix my sisters photocopier. Her response " great, but that won't fix the photocopier, will it". And me being gay hasnt been an issue since... I guess some parents are just more evolved than others....

I am really enjoying the story; its funny, sad, chaotic and serious. One part I simply don't get is the Bren and Milo "play within a play". I get their story, their tragedy and the tragedy of their times, but for me its a complete distraction from the story of the boys as they try and work their lives out between Europe and NA, with family, friends and enemies. I am sure I am in a minority here, so am obviously missing a connection. But i can say, in all honesty, it doesnt take away my enjoyment of the story overall!.

Great story, and i think the ending was right. Adding to the story by making the "reunification" longer with added drama, would imho, have just seemed like padding. The only complication would have been for Greg to come out, Josh think that all his summers have come at once, but having tasted the fruit, realise that Glenn was his true love. Improbable, and probably not an improvement on what you have already. Thanks.

Brandon is trouble. Ryder is naive. Teddy doesn't realise what he is up against. Not so much in vino veritas as in pot veritas

I'll send my 10 quid....😆

Black widows also eat their mates after copulation... if followed faithfully it makes for a rapid turnover in characters! -
While Id like to be as positive about Ryders situation as other coments, without Teddys physical presence and with Brandon attentions, I forsee some rough times ahead for our hero. It aint all beer and skittles yet....

Northern Exposure: General Discussion
Canuk replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
The latest update on our beloved Grainger raised some interesting questions; a ranking Admiral that Caroline hadn't heard of.... that's a first and given that and his subsequent behaviour, a certain sign of trouble. The second is one I hadnt given much thought about; renumeration. Of course "lucky" officers renumeration would have been considerably higher than those who could not get themselves into situations (through skill, connections, or circumstance) where the rewards flowed. The final question, which I mentioned in the commentary, how a Cavendish, even one bent, with one leg, couldnt get a better wife than a tradesmans daughter with a reputation implies significant failure on his parents behalf. Surely Caroline can line some impoverished aristo's daughter to sacrifice herself? Mind you Cavendish has to avoid/survive the duel first... What a lot in one chapter. I continue to be impressed Mr Arbour! -
I can't believe that a Cavendish, even a single legged bender, could not find a better spouse than a tradesman's daughter, especially one with a "reputation"!! I suspect the Guild, grasping at straws to get at their opposition. This was a true delight to get this morning! Thank you very much

while I whole heartedly agree, I am not sure even BBC or PBS could cope with the sex....

Mexican drug cartels are a whole new level of horrible. all their other "issues" will be naught compared to what can happen to the family now. I sincerely hope this is not the beginning of the end...... great to have an update - thanks

Loving the story, the over the top drama and the action. Great fun. While i realise this is an alternative universe, i do wish people would get over the idea that Embassies are "sovereign territory" of the country they represent. It is a complete fiction. While there are rules relating to embassies, they remain simply that; representatives of foreign states. Its a misreading of the Vienna convention that has produced this "sovereign territory " idea.

Merry Christmas Mark. These people that keep you busy, is there anything us loyal readers could do about them? I am sure there are some us that have contacts.... one brief message and no mess, no noise, just poof and those annoying people are all gone, leaving you to us, the aforesaid readers... just a thought.... Looking forward to 2018....

Truly delightful to be back observing our beloved Grainger. Thank you.
