  1. I think the big difference in the older generation of gays and the newer generation is that when I was 14 in 1991 you had very limited places and ways to meet guys. You couldn't cam, a simple pic took 3 minutes to download and you really didn't have cheap digital cams yet so you had to take a pic, get it developed and then scanned so the opportunity for "those" kind of pics was limited..... that started to change pretty rapidly, but even so QuickCams weren't practical until 1999 when the prices dropped and Internet speeds became faster so you could use a cam and then there were the gay sites or gay chat rooms like AOL, and gay.com, PlanetOut, etc... Okay, the point is, when I was 14, it was hard to find random hook-ups even if you wanted them, guys who are that age now have never known a time when they couldn't explore their sexuality online. Will & John are on the cusp of that wave. Hooking up when you could has always been high in the gay community, but it my day it was limited by how to meet guys. That limitation no longer exists for a lot of gay boys.
  2. Amongst our criticisms are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms...... No? Okay, seriously I usually go the "really loved the story, but here are parts that didn't work work for me."
  3. I dunno, that room in Malibu scares the poop outta me.... I think I will keep my hands off Mark's Pensive.
  4. Only Authors ought to have ratings, or at least visible ratings and you should only rate stories, not chapters and you only get to rate a story once. I've been doing all I can to get Dom's numbers up because he isn't active right now and hasn't been active since the switchover to the new system. Because there isn't a lot of activity on the Dom Forums a newbie might not consider the Dom stories unless he sees the stories liked a lot or authors rating high. We actually have three rating systems here, the "like", the stars and the + and - and I still don't understand which is the most important or which matters if someone looks for the "most popular" stories on GA.
  5. Uh, I was 12 in 1989, 14 in 1991. I didn't start going to clubs until the summer of '95 and the hot songs were Gangsta Paradise, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Waterfalls, Another Night. Ultra Nate and Black Box were hot, I think Cher had a big hit that summer or the next. That was also about when I started raving, although I did go to one or two after water polo ended my senior year. I didn't really care about swimming that much. When I was younger I loved everything Disney, country, beach stuff (Beach Boys, Dick Dale), my parents stuff like James Taylor, Billy Joel etc. Also because of my families long association with Hawaii I had a lot of Hawaiian artists. About once a month two to four families from our church with kids my age would come over for a pot luck and music night. Two of the guys played guitar and we had percussion instruments and we'd sing a mix of Cat Stevens, Simon and Garfunkle, Billy Joel, etc.
  6. Danny Pintauro when I was 8 or 9. And then Leo Dicaprio when I was in jr high.
  7. Yeah I am thinking the kid that was playing Pokemon winds up being a jihadist and comes face to face with Will in Afghanistan.......
  8. Mmmm, a lot of the guys we've seen get ruined by California had big plans and dreams to be lawyers or doctors or other professional choices and they lost their way. I wouldn't call Gathan "street smart", he is from Claremont, a city not unlike Youngstown, or maybe not even that big, maybe Upper Arlington, not Cleveland or Columbus. He may not be a farm boy, but neither is he big city boy. It is easy to be seduced by power and wealth. The point we are making is how many "squared away" kids we've seen get messed up by influences in CA. L.A. has movie stars and rock stars, Palo Alto, Mountain View, etc have Internet and technology stars whose power and wealth is every bit as seductive as any Hollywood producer.
  9. But I guess it is.
  10. Totally!
  11. If you aren't Scots, Irish or Greek it is pretty dang gay.
  12. Birthday greetings from Marilyn Munroe
  13. Glee this week sang "Friday" that pop song by Rebecca Black and I think that is totally cool. This poor kid has been subject to so much hate on the Internet for nothing more than recording a song for fun and putting it on her YouTube account. Glee is all about the oppressed and downtrodden, freaks and geeks and I love that they threw a salute young Miss Black's way.
  14. Mmmm, "Things Fall Apart," one of my all time favorite books that is in turn from a favorite poem, "The Second Coming."
  15. The difference is we saw the scene play out and we saw the two sides. If I remember Max was in a relationship with someone else and he said "no" before anything happened and Marcel persisted. With Gathan we just know he felt guilty about it and if I remember they were already in the act when the two people said "no" and we don't know what was in their minds when they said no or the exact context.
  16. "It's can Charlie and I play here for awhile," my mom said sweetly. "No dear, it's may Charlie and I play here for awhile," Tim grinned shyly.
  17. Not as sexy as polo players.
  18. I can't speak about No Cal, but in So Cal crystal meth became big in the mid, maybe even early 1990's.
  19. I didn't know anyone at that time doing cocaine, it was all about the rave scene and X, Special K, crank crystal meth. Will and all would know some tweekers, but it wouldn't be their friends and they'd know people doing X on the weekends because a lot of the 'good' kids were into raves and saw X as pretty harmless. Crystal Method was a hot local band in that era and Tweekend, one of their albums, was being developed at that time. LSD tabs were floating around too. Roofies were not as big as X in the rave scene, but still around and aderall was abused by a lot of people, especially those trying to get into Harvard, Yale, etc.
  20. Those stats are probably correct for your average person in most of the country, but the World Trade Center Towers were about 80% in the financial industry and at the high end/institutional end. Stef and Brad would certainly have known several people in the towers.
  21. To no one's surprise, I will still disagree. They would have known Barbara because she was married to Ted, not known her in her own right and Ted had been high in Republican circles since the Reagan administration, both inside the administration and as a senior partner at Gibson Dunn Crutcher in WDC. While Olson wasn't a blue blood, neither was the senator and the senator might often have need of a top criminal attorney. Being a senior partner at one of the top law firms in the country confers social status and while typical Virginia blue bloods might not mix with the DC crowd, the Danfields are in the DC crowd and have to mix and mingle with the movers and shakers in the town, especially as Olson was on the short list for SCOTUS. The fact that Olson grew up in Mountain View, the next town over from Palo Alto adds another interesting dimension, not to mention his role in Bush v. Gore and Perry v. Schwarzenegger (the gay marriage law suit).
  22. Mmmm, actually I believe you are wrong probably, the Danfields and Wade would certainly have know Barbara Olson as the Olson's would have been in the same social circle as the Danfields.
  23. May Day is Lei Day in Hawai'i Happy Lei Day!
  24. Umm no. I was neutral on her until this latest Judas release stunt, now I find her just sad. Lady Gaga, Catholic Church Exchange Blows There was nothing original about her church baiting stunt, Madonna and Sinead O'Connor among others have already been there. Find something else to gin up attention.
  25. Have I blacked out for two weeks?? Isn't Mark's birthday two weeks away?? No birthday wishes here (at least not yet).
