Thanks Mark for the newest chapter, tying up some dangling issues.
Los Angeles actually has a sizable, successful, Serbian community and they have a long tradition of USC graduates. My grandparents and parents had a lot of Serbian friends from USC that I grew up with and as a result I've been to many weddings at Saint Steven's Serbian Orthodox Cathedral. I say this because it gives you insight into that part of the world, the Old World and the tribalism of it all.
In a traditional Serbian wedding the groom has his groomsmen, the the bride, instead of bridesmaids, has bridesmen. This is in case a fight starts or shooting breaks out, the bride's people can hold their own. When the bride and groom are at the altar, the priest takes rope and ties their arms together (no getting away at that point) and walks them around the altar three times. The the drinking starts.
On the way out of St. Steven's the groomsmen and bridesmen have bottles of Slivovitz and EVERYBODY takes a hit from the bottle, from the oldest grandma to the youngest elementary school kid. (more proof of their [psychological makeup) Then it is on to the reception, 500 pounds of roast lamb and dancing.
