  1. Oh Rob! You made me SO happy when I opened this thread and that was the first response For my thoughts on the matter check out my blog entry: Sexuality: I just don't care (Gosh, I've gotten alot of mileage out of that one ). Yeah! You go guys! I don't make value judgments about sexuality at all, but frankly I think in a "perfect" world everyone would be bisexual. I'm not saying it's "better" it just seems to me that intellectually it's by far the most rational choice. So preventing strikes me as ludicrous. If you think about it it's just like the Utopian dream of people no longer seeing each other in terms of race. Intuitively these are my thoughts as well. However, I'll freely admit I'm biased toward looking at sexuality (and pretty much everything else in life) as something with shades of gray. YES! I must admit it's always been a "guilty pleasure" of mine that I feel...hmm how can I phrase this..."green" because I won't be actively contributing to overpopulation. I think the best response to people who say homosexuality is a choice would be to say: "Well then it's the more responsible, civilized choice" Perhaps that's why I've never personally taken exception when anti-gay people take up the "It's a choice" rallying call. If it is a choice it's an intelligent one to make and it's filled with many benefits. Of course heterosexuality has it's benefits too, and if it were a simple matter of choice I don't think either would be the best choice foreveryone. Take me for example, for me homosexuality is boon to my "agenda". I find it very liberating. As a young gay guy I'm free pick and choose the "stereotypes" and "roles" as I see fit. I can be as into: clothes, "spa" stuff, music, art, and minority rights as I please. I fit in perfectly in these circles and can become "just another gay guy". However, as man (and one who enjoys challenging stereotypes) I can "do it myself", play the "Southern Gentleman", walk alone at night, and get away with much more assertive/agressive behaviour than the average woman (without recieving harsh labels - so unfair BTW). I find it opens more doors for what I can experience. I also feel like being gay should allow for more egalitarian relationships without getting bogged down in "roles". "You do the laundry tonight and I'll change the oil in the car, but tomorrow we might switch." Of course these things should be taken one by one and handled by the partner most skilled in that area. I just think it's...limiting for one person to take on all the "Protector" roles and another to take on all "Nurturer" roles. I have a strong taste for both and I refuse to be relegated to one or the other. So what am I? Someone who hates labels. However, since I'm foreced to live in a society that requires them, I happily take the "gay" label. I'm more physically attracted to more guys more often. However, there's quite a few women who, on a purely sexual basis, I'd like to sleep with, but there's futre of these than there are guys and my reactions to guys are more intense and stable. I also have a much more emotionally romantic attraction to guys - which I think is the most important aspect (for me anyway). So yes, I don't care why I'm "gay", I'm just glad I am -Kevin
  2. I have NO idea what you could mean **looks for ways to pay off the goat!**
  3. Hey Rick! It looks great! In fact I was going to comment on it anyway I think Dutch people are really cool! Yep, it's a great song! In fact I find that I quite like it even without the message it contains or being able to understand the lyrics. I just think it's a pretty language and I like the music. (I feel this way about MANY types of foreign music though) Have a day filled with happiness and joy everyone! Kevin
  4. I'd have to say almost the exact same thing as you, CJ I think a signature should express your tastes and personality. I find relevant quotes and song lyrics to be among some of the best material for quotes (even if that is a "done"). As long as you don't post anything offensive it's unlikely anyone will complain . take care all, Kevin
  5. Hi Kyle, I think that's two seperate questions. Do you think poetry is always saying some thing by the writer or is some times poems just like fiction stories? When poem talks about writer I mean. Like first person kind. I think poems and stories always say something about their authors. I don't think it's necessarily the obvious interpretation though. Just because someone writes a poem or story filled with pain and anguish doesn't mean they're unhappy, it means that they can fathom being unhappy and describe it realistically. How? Maybe they've been that unhappy before and remember it; maybe they've been somewhat unhappy before and can amplify it; maybe they're empathetic and have simply witnessed unhappiness. OR maybe they are miserable right now. I'm currently working on a story with some very dark themes. Some of my characters do things and experience things which, happily, have never happened to me. I can just imagine them. The story does say something about me though...what I'm not sure. Friend wrote sad poem and I think maybe he is really sadder then he acts. Should I tell him I saw his poem and talk to him? Yes, I think you should talk to him. You obviously care about him and you're obviously worried. It's my experience that people who are fine don't mind hearing that someone cares about them and thinks about their well-being. People who aren't fine are (and this is just 100% my opinion/experiences and I could be completely off-base) more likely to become upset or defensive; however, these are the people that need to know the most and often even these people will respond positively, or at least neutrally, to genuine, heartfelt expressions of concern. So obviously I can't say for sure whether or not he is upset (personally I'd probably be worried too), but I can say that in my opinion it can't hurt to let him know that you care about him and you're there for him if he needs to talk. I think this is something we should tell our friends anyway, even if we "know" they're happy. Take care and have an awesome day Kevin By the way, Kyle, I think you're super-sweet and awesome for being such a good friend

  8. Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have an awesome year!
  9. I'm not dyslexic and don't pretend to know a great deal about it (thanks very much for the info Red A!). The latest research I read indicates that it's more of a problem translating the letters into sounds. Instead dyslexics seem to compensate by using context and "recognizing" familar words (could it be the elongated, less familar look that makes Courier harder to read as opposed to Times New Roman which is highly prevalent and thus more familar?). So it isn't so much that "b" and "d" are flipped as it is that they look very similar so "bad" and "dad" might be misrecognized, especially out of context. I think the major point is that sounding things out is harder because the letters have less individual significance. I could be entirely incorrect though, it's been awhile since I studied this. you a psyc. major, Jalaki? I didn't know that! Or did you just USED to be or have an interest or something? I graduated in psychology and sociology. Have an awesome day everyone! Kevin

(I've since quit using microwaves...not for that reason, but is it really any wonder when they're all out to get me? ) you're the bestest, Vancey! Take care Kevin
