Based on my personal in-game chat experiences, I find that guys like to be more upfront and direct while girls like to add some pleasantries here and there. They're not entirely obvious, nor are they absolutes. Some guys will want to add standard pleasantries here and there while some girls will want to be direct - even to the point of being blunt. Of course much of this is circumstantial too. If there is a situation where there is not much time to enter an urgent message, obviously a direct approach would be taken. Also if they lost a unit or ship or team member, they would more than likely be blunter than usual out of frustration. Someone in a position of command such as guild master, fleet commander, general, squad leader etc also would typically be more direct. Again, no absolutes. The gender lines are much more blurred out-of-game though and I probably would have a much smaller chance of guessing compounded on an already microscopic chance of guessing whether the other person is a guy or girl. In this modern world, in general, there are no set rules as to how one should communicate via the internet, provided they are civil in their conversations.

Would you wear a pair of jeans that had no pockets?
thephoenix replied to Toast's topic in The Lounge
No. I need to carry around stuff like my cell phone, keys, and whatever small things that I can take around with me without bringing a backpack. (I like to keep my hands free.) -
I think it's the whole chivalry thing, but I won't get into that. I don't really get the idea of cross gender gaming because I like to sometimes immerse myself in the character and the game sometimes to clear my mind or something and I can't do that with a female character.

No matter how politically incorrect it is, companies like to hire if the person is good looking as they would be 'representing' the company. This applies especially to front-line customer service positions. As for relationships, admittedly it's still a factor for me when looking for a potential BF. The personality of course is extremely important, but as far as first impressions go, looks matter. In my opinion, looks do not matter when looking for a platonic friend - that's all personality and approachability (non-threatening) though sometimes someone's appearance is a reflection of their personality.

Hmm...I'm kind of in the same boat, and after thinking for a bit, I feel I need to rephrase my previous post. For guys, being told that they are skinny, is actually insulting. The "slim" compliment I was referring to would only typically apply to women who are constantly trying to slim down. For guys, the ideal body shape in my opinion is the swimmer's build. Not as slim as the runner's build but not as bulky as the champion bodybuilders. As for me, I need to consciously eat a large amount of calories to gain weight because I need to gain weight to achieve the ideal physique. What I was referring to in my previous post was that those on the other end of the scale need to "slim down" or just ..lose weight..to get to the ideal physique, but not to the point of being "slim" for guys.

Don't knock Canada until you've been here! It's a nice place to live, though not as high profile as you folks south of the 49th parallel. In fact, I like to stay low profile. Edit: 25th post!

I think it depends on a person's body structure, although in some cases it may not be immediately obvious. Ectomorphs are naturally skinny and can even eat more than an endomorph who is overeating without gaining a pound of weight. This is the most common body type in Southeast Asia (or Asians). Personally, I fall into this category because I need to consume obscene amounts of calories to gain weight (leading to obscenely high grocery costs), yet I lose weight even if I miss a single meal. It would be insulting to call an ectomorph "skinny" just how it would be insulting to call an endomorph "fatty". It would VERY difficult to make an ectomorph ...fat. Mesomorphs are the perfect body type. They maintain a perfect height to weight ratio no matter how much or how little they eat. They are the genetically gifted in terms of body structure. They can gain muscle and lose fat easily. Endomorphs are the opposite of ectomorphs. This is the most common body type among those in North America or Europe (or Caucasians). People with this body type can eat less than an ectomorph when they aren't trying to gain weight...and still gain weight. Much of the nutrition or diet..."industry" is catered towards people with this body type, and it's less expensive for an endomorph to lose weight than an ectomorph to gain weight. It would be difficult to make an endomorph too skinny, but not as difficult as making an ectomorph fat. Calling someone who is an endomorph, "fatty" would be very offensive, perhaps as offensive as calling an ectomorph "skinny". Calling an endomorph skinny may actually be a compliment, but it would be much preferable to use the term "slim". Calling someone fat though, whether ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph would be offensive no matter what.

Since I have dual citizenship, I'll list the heads of state from the U.S. and Canada that I have lived under.... 5 each from Canada and the United States. CANADA (Technically the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, but the Prime Ministers seem more appropriate for this discussion) Brian Mulroney 1984-1993 Kim Campbell 1993-1993 Jean Cretien 1993-2003 Paul Martin 2003-2006 Stephan Harper 2006- UNITED STATES Ronald Reagan 1981-1989 George H. I did not mean for this to be personal. I'm only saying that there are women out there who are like that. Neither am I saying that there aren't men who are recklessly violent without a care for anyone else's safety or well-being. There are always more than two sides, but the media only looks at one.

Note: I do not intend this to be a personal attack of any kind. However, if you feel you may be offended easily on this topic, please do not continue reading this post.

For a bit of an asian, healthy touch, I like some kind of toasted sesame seed dressing, some crunchy things, some tangerine slices, chicken or roast pork (the red kind...in chinese it is known as "char-siu"). For a more western touch, I prefer a Ranch or Caesar dressing.

I compare homophobes to terrorists. Sorry, but I can't help it. They're lurking in the background waiting for you to slip up and then strike. As some previous posts mentioned, it's what you don't know they will do that causes the most stress. And when they do strike, the consequences can be quite disastrous. I highly doubt it's an actual phobia such as arachnophobia or fear of heights.

A shower is good if you want to get clean quickly. If you have one of those premium showers with the water jets and rainfall type of shower head, I'd imagine that would be like a water massage while blasting away the dirt. A bath is good if you feel sore for some reason...like after a workout or something. And if you don't have AC, a cool water bath will cool you down pretty quick when the temperature gets a little too high.

Yup, and no more under-age fees if you're renting a car. (If the companies let those under 25 rent.) I think there's more financial aid now too from universities. At least that's what I heard. Dunno. *shrug*

Speaking of metallic colours, I like dark titanium and a light champagne-gold too (leaning towards the dark titanium though).

Before my trip to Europe, i usually ordered pizza around every week to every month or so. Mostly from Pizza Hut because as far as what is available to me in Canada in terms of pizza chains, Pizza Hut outranks the rest (again, i'm only referring to the Canadian chains). Dominos pizza tastes like cardboard. And I usually throw away the crust bits because of it. (Don't have Papa Johns up here in the Great White North) However the pizza that I had in Europe was absolutely phenomenal. The toppings were simple (stuff like prosciutto and a few other things I can't remember) but the thin, crisp, flavourful crust was perfect in every way. The prices were amazing too - a little more than an amount I would spend on a McD's combo in Toronto. I've broken a record as to the period of time I've spent without ordering a single pizza because I haven't been able to find one that matched that quality yet. I'm sure there's some genuine Italian restaurants around here that serve genuine pizzas though...just haven't really had the chance... (plus, they tend to be high end $$$$$$$ restaurants).

The Matrix, hands down. It's my all-time favorite movie and nothing I've watched since then has managed to beat it.

hmm... Well, the phoenix is a mystical bird of fire with a lot of mystery around it. And some people apparently think I'm mysterious because I usually keep to myself unless prompted. But I want a change. I want to be more outgoing and to make more friends. The phoenix also symbolizes rebirth. Rebirth from the ashes, into a new life. A new beginning. To finally put the ugly past behind me and move forward. That is what I seek.

Umm..I have 2...but they keep flattening out. I have no idea how to look for the high quality ones that don't do that.

Thanks for the welcome Agaith. I agree, it was quite depressing around the middle but I kept going anyway. Finally got a sigh of relief at the end though. Haha... But yeah. I don't know anyone in the gay community very well so I hope maybe I could make some friends on here too.
