Feedback for ebook cover and title change
Kavrik replied to Hasimir Fenrig's topic in Writer's Circle
If the cover is already being used by another publisher or author and you know about it, I would not use it. -
hehe it is kinda scary. I like it though. The glass spider turned out so cool. Thanks Mandy

I just got my cover art in the email today from my publisher. I wanted to show you guys, especially Quonus, Nephy, Bugeye, and CIA. I was so worried that it was taking so long, and I'd signed this agreement that I'd have no say in it. But it's perfect. I love it so much. What do you guys think?

What Does It Feel Like to Be Published.
Kavrik commented on Nephylim's blog entry in Nephylim's Blog
I'm so excited to read your book Nephy. I have marked it to read in Goodreads. Would you like to honor me with an author interview on my blog? I know that it isn't Gay Authors, but it could give you some exposure and would allow me to pick your brain on your writing process. If interested, please email me at kavrik (at) hotmail (dot) com Your fan, Mike -
Andy, I just wanted to say that what you are wanting to write is already an entire genre of very successful stuff. The genre is called "Literary Fiction." These are stories of the likes of John Irving and Michael Chabon. Think "The Cider House Rules" and "The Wonder Boys" if you've never read these books. Literary Fiction is by definition plotless. It is simply about a character's life. I love John Irving's stories. I'm not trying to harp on anything, but from looking at this thread I can tell that a lot of the writers don't seem to read as much as they write (people should at least be familiar with an entire genre of writing that is already out there). Reading what is out there, what is published, will make you a better writer. These are not my words, they come from Stephen King. And they are absolutely true. But yes, there is a market for exactly what you want to write...a HUGE market with hungry readers. Tell your stories of the characters and go to town man.

I read every word. There doesn't seem to be much point to reading if you skim. In my opinion "skimming" just means you don't want to be reading and should put the book down and go do something else.

Hi guys, This weekend I read an absolutely beautiful book by an author called Patrick Dilloway that really moved me. It's called "Where You Belong" and is a gay novel written in the same manner as The Cider House Rules and World According to Garp. It really wow'ed me. http://www.amazon.com/Where-You-Belong-Patrick-Dilloway/dp/1442145196/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1310397856&sr=8-2 The kindle edition for it is only 99 cents which is a complete steal. Who can't afford 99 cents? Here's the review I posted on Amazon and Goodreads: The author, Mr. Dilloway, has woven a beautiful narrative through the often troubled life of Frost Devereaux. From his mother and father’s terrible relationship to how he gets manipulated by the Maguire twins, the events that unfold are at times hear-wrenching while absolutely profound in their majesty. Really, all Frost wants is to be loved and to not have to live a life alone. This yearning causes him to bounce between Frankie, the woman who taught him passion with "A Streetcar Named Desire" to Frank(her twin brother) who engages him in a loving (if not turbulent) homosexual relationship and marriage in a tumultuous climax that recalls the civil rights riots of the 1960′s. The events that happen that destroy Frost’s marriage are understandable because the characters in his narrative burn so white hot with their passion. However, they are also tragic. Mr. Dilloway knows what love is and knows how to write it so that when it all comes crashing down, it’s like watching some beautiful piece of art being destroyed in front of your eyes and you are helpless to do anything. When I finished the book, I sat up for a while thinking about what I'd just read and reflected upon Frost's life wishing that there was a sequel. The last thing I want to say is that Mr. Dilloway is highly original with his narrative (and completely faithful to his characters and their flaws). Frost never learns and never listens and follows his heart to the very last page which is what makes him so loveable as a character. If you are looking for a book that smacks of the Cider House Rules but addresses the issues of modern times up to and including what happened in 9/11 at Ground Zero and the gay marriage debate, you should check out this book.

Baby update - it's no longer an 'it' it's a 'she'
Kavrik commented on Andrew Q Gordon's blog entry in Reset, Reload, Redo
Okay so all the females wanted a daughter. And Mike, if I may be so presumptuous, is I suspect the "bottom" in your relationship? So that classifies him as taking on the "female" role in a M/M relationship so it makes sense he would want a daughter. Of course if I'm wrong in that then I'm completely wrong. But you definitely don't strike me as a bottom Andy. Way too alpha male for that. -

Not mad. I actually wished you a son on a comment on your status update instead of what Nephy wrote. Reason==> Men like the "mini-me" the same as was shown in Austin Powers. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It's the truth. People that disagree are free to do so of course but I personally think women want daughters (and there's nothing wrong with that either). -

The It Gets Better Project is an incredible inspiration and I hope that the message keeps spreading because it needs to. For those that don't know, the It Gets Better Project supports The Trevor Project, GLSEN, and the ACLU LGBT Project. Google is now behind it and one of the many reasons that I believe that there is absolute genius behind this company. Their products are amazing whether you want to talk about the Google phone (Android) and witness its outstanding GPS powered by Google Earth, its search engine, YouTube, or even Blogger, they spare no expense in the pursuit of excellence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7skPnJOZYdA&feature=player_embedded The above advertisement was paid for by Google and was run during this week's episode of Glee during the first commercial break. I watch Glee irregularly as I just prefer different "kinds" of shows. But I do occasionally watch it. But that's not what I wanted to say here. Google is using its dollars to speak about an important cause. There continues to be so much negative and hateful speech out there for LGBT people and this was a huge counter to that. They are an enormous company sticking their neck out to purchase ad time on one of TV's top shows and saying to the world that they support gay people and that it does indeed get better. Gay youth are a huge part of the homeless problem everywhere and I see it in Utah as I'm a State Social Worker. Kids that are born gay are kicked out of their homes and forced to live on the streets because their parents see it as a lifestyle choice and we all know that it isn't. Thank you Google and to all of the people that signed on with this message in this advertisement from celebrities like Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Kathy Griffin, and Anne Hathaway to people I've never seen. One message, Writers please be responsible with your words. You are more powerful than you can possibly imagine and what you put down will be read by people that you can never know. You have so many stories to tell, so much talent, and I just want to ask you to please be aware of this. Your work shall outlive you and become your legacy. What you pen today can change the world.

[Andrew_Q_Gordon] eReaders

Oh dearest Andy as the only person that ever asked after the welfare of my story I leave you this tale that I spun for you (and maybe my blog on Friday ) hee hee You saw the iPad for the first time. It was all the things you weren't. It was shiny and thin. You thought if only Apple had made you, you'd be thin too. It was a look you can never forget. Then you weaseled one out of your boss, husband, wife, brother, sister, mother...or even God forbid...you won one from a radio station contest. It made you feel like this: You downloaded apps. You downloaded Angry Birds and made excuses that you were going to the bathroom at work when in fact you just wanted to get to the next level. Then someone else got a non-Apple product and they tried to show it to you. You pitied them. You found a mutual friend who was confused. They asked you if Apple was better than the other tablets like Samsung or Toshiba. How could they ask this?!? So you stared at them until they got it. But your friend was still confused. They didn't get it... Should I even look at the other tablets? Are those other brands better? You answered the best you could while being professional about it. So they took your advice. They bought the iPad. You thought it was over. But then they walked in with the iPad 2. They showed you all the new features. It was even slimmer, had a camera, and had a new case. Jealousy set-in. You tried to dismiss it...you clapped for your friend. You knew what needed to be done. You were ready. You were now a master at Angry Birds and boy were you pissed! How could they do this? How could they usurp you with better technology. You had led them to the promised land and now...this?! You planned the perfect murder. When someone told you that your friend had been found dead. You tried to look sad. "How terrible," you said. "How could this happen?" You offered to take their brand new iPad 2 to remember them by. Everyone agreed. It should be yours. It was the... The End I leave you with Danza Kuduro by Don Omar & Lucenzo. Featured in Fast Five, I see this video and think...I want this life and I want all of my friends to have this life. May you someday have a friend call you from his cell phone on his way to pick you up in his yacht. Now that would be a cool story, eh? Dance some for me -
People keep talking about the royal wedding And you want to be like... and say, "I'm reading a book this weekend so na na nah."
