CJ and Owen are beautiful together ... they are the balance and counterbalance to one another. Still, knowing what I know, I ache for Brad. I weep for him, for what he has sacrificed both mentally and physically. I weep because of those "dear God no" moments when he was forced to commit atrocities or die. I gave serious thought to enlisting in the Navy when I graduated high school. It was 1975, the draft had just ended. I was 17. When one of my older cousins who'd been to Nam heard he told my mother in no uncertain terms to not let me do it. He was adamant. My own son when he graduated enlisted in the Navy. It was August 2000 when he left for Great Lakes and basic training. Before he left he told me he chosen the Navy because he wanted to serve but didn't think he could point a gun at another person and pull the trigger. I'm glad he made the choice he did because after 9/11 he went to war aboard the USS Enterprise.

Hmmm, well since that story has begun posting the rest of us are in on the joke too.
  8. Hi Terry. Glad you're okay. Hope things improve for your friend.
  9. Thanks. I worry sometimes.
  10. What a little angel you are ...
  11. Took mum to church this morning, we haven't been because I've had migraine every weekend this year. The music director retired last spring and so there hasn't been an organist, instead someone has played the piano. This morning there was an organist. He did a nice job but my head and the vibrations from an organ do not play well together. I had to leave the service part way through because it became too much. A part me wishes we'd not gone. All the benefit from the meds I took before we left are undone and I can't take more for at least 3 hours.
  12. Hey, have we heard from Terry? The last posting from him in my feed was Friday morning.

When I read this when it first posted things seemed to be improving but now ... now states are the bullies, passing legislation against transkids, against voting rights, etc. I weep in frustration.

I think we need to stop for a moment. Eric's hope for something more than friendship doesn't necessarily mean something physical. Eric is lonely. He may be best served by gaining a companionship similiar to that he sees between his lads. The easy banter and comfort found in one another's company. Something to ease that sense of aloneness that is his day-to-day. He isn't anywhere near ready for a sexual relationship and I don't think he really wants one. He simply wants someone to be his.

  22. I'm still sweeping up after your last attack. Folks here about are complaining about finding glitter in various and sundry nooks and crannies.

Perhaps so, maybe because we can identify with much of what Eric feels. Maybe because having been young men we recall how young men think and Eric has admitted that as a young man he felt an attraction to Rob. While unintentional on your part his recent thoughts and behavior suggest to me higher hopes on his reunion with Rob than simple friendship.

I'd not given Eric enough credit. I feared his recent growth shaken to the core without considering his new found sense of self-evaluation. He recognized he'd behaved in a rude and ungrateful manner. Questioning whether he really wanted to return to how life had been. He also seems to understand that his parent's views were somewhat warped and not those of most people. It was serendipitous that Brian prodded him to come watch the Morris dancers. Eric's viewpoint took a turn when he realized the fun being had. The few days between gave both Eric and Andy a chance to settle their thoughts. Andy had a reasonable rebutal for each point Eric made. In some repects Eric reminds me of my grandfather. My granddad didn't like spaghetti, never once in his life had he eaten any but knew he didn't like it. Eric's thoughts on croquet reminded me of him. Perhaps if he tried it he might think differently. Then Andy got him to admit why he'd left without a word and admitted the things he himself has no interest in while firmly making it clear that doesn't allow room for judgement. You know I really don't like you talking us round from being peeved on Eric's behalf when what I really want is to sulk over his mistreatment by his friends. So all is not lost. I do think Eric and Rob are a mismatch though with effort on both parts a friendship might remain salvageable.
