  1. Most definitely you should.
  2. Hi Miss Caz. Congrats on escaping the house and family ... er, uhm, I mean gaining meaningful employment.
  3. I envy you a bit. No space to really garden her at mum's. I did plant some onions along with Royal Oak leaf and a variety of minature red romaine lettuces. It hasn't been very successful. The soil here is very sandy mixed with clay so the onions haven't done much more than grow into very slender six inch shoots. The lettuces were coming along nicely until the guy came to wash the house. Wherever the solution he used splattered onto the oak leaf it caused the leaves to brown and die off. The centers are growing out again but the weather has become hot so I think it will "bolt" before I get much from them. The romaine heads were just beginning to form compact heads when the heat arrived causing the plants to begin to bolt. That is until two nights ago when the deer came through and nipped the tips out of them. Damned creatures also ate the buds off two-thirds of the daylilies. Came back the next night to get the rest. Despite this stunning lack of success I'll try again next year. I plan however to plant in a container garden where I can control the soil quailty and moisture. The neighbors on both sides use them for tomatoes and peppers and collect a nice season long harvest.
  4. Aren't you a day early to be celebrating Cinco de Mayo?
  5. She's pure as driven in snow ...

    Endings

Hmmm, how to best word this ... You've really got to read this latest Headstall tale. Seriously, I don't want to give anything away but this is classic Headstall with a twist. The story is told from the viewpoint of one person, Chase. You get to watch as he grows and develops into the man he was meant to be. That's all I'm going to say except, the overwhelming amount of reader comments and discussion, some quite impassioned, is an indication of just how captivating this story is.

  8. ... and a really big bar of soap.
  9. Well of course not, nightfall is coming.
  10. Well I'll be ... wasn't sure you could or even if you intended to but you wrote another tale of redeeming love. You really are a hopeless ... no make that a hopefilled romantic. I'd like to see an epilogue/or a short one off but not just yet. Let the dust settle a bit first and then tell us how they're doing.
  11. G'day y'all. It bodes a hot muggy day here. Though my head aches the pup and I managed an early morning walk. Now for some brekkie, a shower then a bit of quiet. Blessed be. ... Well I've had brekkie, toast with butter and cherry jam - two bites of which went to the pup. Taken that shower, the water cascading over my skin washing away the soap bubbles was comforting. Unfortunately none of that has done anything to ease the storm building in my brain. I've taken a bit of something, drawn the curtains and settled into the recliner in my room. There's a dozing pup curled up between my knees. Let us hope for better things.

    All On Board

Just some random thoughts coursing through your head? This was fun thanks for sharing.
  13. Having grown both types I know that but where I grew up potato plants were often referred to as vines. Particularly when grown under mulch as I did.
  14. Are you bragging or complaining ... 😯 ... you meant Clo. My bad 😆
  15. I'm sure everyone will chip in with answers.
  16. Years ago I've grew potatoes from the peels after paring potatoes for dinner. I used to add them to a small compost pile. Next thing I knew I had potato vines. I harvested them as small "new" potatoes and got about two pound. Normally I would buy a pound of seed potatoes but I've also planted those from the bin that had sprouted. I prefer to grow my potatoes under a mulch layer of straw, leaf and grass clippings rather than in hills. It takes a bit more space but it's easy to lift the edge of the mulch to gather a few small potatoes from time to time. Since the reason I grew potatoes was to have those small potatoes it was the best solution for me. Storage potatoes are plentiful and relatively cheap wher I live so I didn't need a large harvest of keepers.
  17. Mum's house is 5 miles from the ocean and 14 ft above sea level. Part of her complex is only 9 ft above sea level. Guess that's why this area is considered part of the South Carolina low country.
  18. Matty has to tell Eddie. If he doesn't and Alex ends up pregnant all hell will break loose.
  19. What have you planted.
  20. A south facing wall should allow an earlier start next spring. Are your winters mild enough to overwinter cool weather crops if you have a sheltered space?
  21. It looks a nice size and the dark soil appears rich should grow some nice things.
  22. This sort of dwelling was common in Scotland too and even in some parts of the early US where the Scots-Irish settled. It was an improvement on the earlier practice of wintering the cattle, etc. at one end of the dwelling and the humans on the other.
  23. Even an isolated voice crying out can be heard ...
