Fathers are a little different than mothers. It makes a father proud to see their son act in the manner Andy did, even though he did want to go in and be with him, he respected Andy for his strength and didn't want to feel less of the man Andy is becoming.
You're right, there's no way Andy and Joey could have hidden their relationship from someone living in the home. I think Andy know that from the beginning with his dad and his aunt and uncle. Heck, Roger knew it before they said anything to him about it.
Like you, I hope the change in JT is for real and long lasting. It's hard to tell with teenagers.
I agree that it will be hard to keep Andy's and Joey's relationship quiet during a state-wide election, but it's not impossible. Cool joke
