  9. I can't remember a christmas where there was so much death and destruction so apparently pointlessly. Unless we consider the tsunami a few years back. Everybody copes with it, you have to. But some people are just better at it than others. I seriously don't know how you manage JoAnn. I prefer just me and my hubby alone at christmas. A houseful of family would drive me crackers, then all of that on top, and having to work in the midst of it. I think you have the body, depth, and spirit of a good Highland malt. And still only 25yo!
  10. Sheez, how many times ... gender is your sexual identity, the sex your head feels you are. Sex is the bits and bobs of the body. To say you are cisgendered means that your head's notion of your sex matches that of your body. Transgendered means that your head's notion of your sex is different to that of your body. It's a plain statement of facts, not a oneupmanship. Furthermore, it would be inaccurate to call a transgendered person gay if they have the body if a man and the mind of a woman, but are sexually attracted to men. That is actually 'straight', because the body is not the identity, the consciousness (i.e. the mind) is the identity. There are people on here who have the mind of a man and the body of a woman and are sexually attracted to men. That makes them gay, even if the book cover does not match the content. I'd go as far as to suggest to you that it is not the people who claim to be transgendered who are being superior, but people like you who demand your (mis)understanding become the norm, and affect to have everybody live according to a set of parameters just so you can understand. You are basically decrying them for expecting what the rest of us want, i.e. an uncontested space in the world where their specific peculiarities are just as uncontested as your peculiarities or my peculiarities. I do appreciate that you are asking the question, but I don't appreciate the high and mighty tone it is delivered in. You are young and living in a generation where certain things are much more acceptable. For instance, how would you react if someone told you that you could not adopt children or father your own because you don't have a great set of milk jugs and you like taking it up the ass? It would be ridiculous. So is your stance. We cannot expect to be granted an uncontested space in the world if we cannot grant the same grace to others.

  19. We got a little present each from a friend last night - just a couple of chocolates - and in the note was a reminder that we had insisted he come to ours for Christmas day, the first year after he got divorced. He has always been extraordinarily grateful for that, for reasons I can't quite fathom. I would never see a friend on their own on Christmas day or New Year's day. It's just natural to me. Being on your own is one thing, but I suggest you have a look at your friend group, because if they are not looing after y ou in this way, they deserve a damned good slapping in my opinion. I just could not live with myself if I didn't respond to my friends in this way. Rob fucked up his dinner today and I invited him from Yorkshire. Of course, he didn't come, but if he had, I'd have been delighted.
  20. Doesn't Brett know where the shops are?
  21. Baked fennel with parmesan shavings, and possibly chicken liver pate on the side. Roast beef, brocolli, roast potato mountain (you can. not. have too many. ever.), roast vegetable, parsnip puree, horseradish, and intense beef jus. Christmas pudding with a port and brandy marinade. Enough sparkling wine and ginger beer (alcoholic) to wash it all down. Then 364 days off to get over it. We have christmas just the two of us and the two dogs. The peace, quiet, and lack of stress is just bliss. I have a smoked ham marinating atm, and will bake it today with a spiced maple syrup crust.
  22. I feel your pain, dude! We also have a tiny kitchen, and the worksurface is taken up by my homemade spice chest in quite large part. So I know how debilitating it can be to share the space. However, three years ago the guests all decided to come into the kitchen (1 + Gregor ), so I aadpted a chant I heard an MC use at a rave once, and when we'd all exchanged hellos and drinks I stood tall and said, "OK, everybody not cooking get out of the fucking kitchen." Worked a treat!
  23. Bee, I know you may think you have the right to use the word retard, but I'd ask you not to. Many aspies and autists find it incredibly annoying, because many of us are just as 'retarded' in some specific ways as NTs are in many others. Use that word on AFF and you get suspended, and kicked to blazes. Use it again, you get banned. Aspergers, even some moderate autism (as it's going to be called) has little mental 'retardation', quite a lot if hyper-ability, and a deficit in people skills and other sensory issues (such as disliking body contact!). Don't make me get the hugs emoticon out
  24. Ahah! Well, I spent quite a bit of time of the Aspies For Freedom site a couple of years back. Turns out there is a slightly increased incidence of homosexuality among aspies. I'm not sure if there is any real notion why, but I could speculate all day long about it. Put that together with online forums being somewhat easier for people who have less verbal dexterity and interpersonal skills, and you are actually putting a chink of light in there. Although I do agree with you, but I can't say what with
  25. Lordy, there seems to be a real group of us on here!
