    Climate Change

My response is not taking on the concept of anthropogenic climate change at all. I'm always amazed that people jump to conclusions based on a sudden change in the weather. This is clearly not the first cold wave of air from the Artic to hit the United States and the fact that it did doesn't really tell you anything significant. 1912, for instance was a very cold year in the United States and many cities and states have record highs and lows dating back to 1912. There have been similar events almost every decade or every other decade, with some of them more intense than others. The populace becomes placated by mild winters and then after a decade or two you get a temperature extreme like this one that leads to grossly inaccurate statements. Let me put this into perspective. The area of the continental United States makes up less than 2% of the total Earth's surface. You can't have a meaningful scientific discussion about the Earth's climate when you are only discussing 2% of its surface with a week's worth of data. The "strong reactors" on both sides of the debate are only able to make their statements because most people don't understand the science behind it.
  2. Mostly my bed and body pillow. Staying with family makes me yearn to be alone as they annoy the hell out of me.
  3. Isn't she 28? Can't she wait to be 29 until next year? That way I can say I'm older and wiser than her.
  4. Happy Birthday, Krista!
  5. I'm not eating at any of your houses.
  6. Slytherin is right, that is a random sampling of your friends list. This is the way the software is programmed upstream. As Ieshwar said, anyone can click on the Friends tab to see all of your friends.

Luc, any guy that doesn't want to be with you isn't worth having you. From our discussions you are clearly smart, witty, well-versed in multiple subjects which makes you great for conversation, and an excellent writer. Sometimes guys just don't realize what they have in front of them. I've failed to see it before, and I'm betting this guy has as well. Pterodactyls are hawt.
  8. It may be satire, but there are parts of it that I can relate to. I'll turn 30 in August, already have grey hair (damn you genetics) and I've found that I rarely have anything in common with the twinks of today.

    Chapter 1

What a beautiful story to read at Christmas time. I like how the story teaches values along the way as well. For example, just because something has always been that way doesn't mean it isn't time for it to change, finding someone to love and being with the ones you love at Christmas is the greatest gift ever, and it is ok to have sex with someone regardless of their gender, but try not to have meaningless sex and instead share it someone you love. This story made me smile. Thanks for writing it and I'm glad I wanted until two days before Christmas to read it.
  10. The story is all over Internet news sources, but apparently one of the reasons cited for halting this road project... Elves. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/icelands-hidden-elves-delay-road-projects My favorite section of the story: I've seen plenty of Trolls on the Internet to believe in them, but I'm just not ready to accept that Elves exist.

    Duck Dynasty

I watched the show with my father while I was at my parent's house for Thanksgiving. I think I saw about 3 episodes. Each one was the same and while I could see why some people think it is funny, they are clearly acting for the camera. My father laughed over and over. What I saw was this: People disrespecting other people. People sitting around a shop and doing nothing instead of working. The CEO brother taking his kids to the dentist and exploiting their behavior under anesthesia on national TV. At the end of the episodes, they pray, but if you look at the table, it only represents a portion of the family and the dinner is staged. It isn't reality. In the real world, if you go into a room and tell everyone that your brother or uncle is an idiot, there will likely be hurt feelings over it. I guess what I'm trying to say is... I don't care what he said. I don't care what A&E does. I wouldn't watch another episode unless I felt forced to do so.

    Duck Dynasty

I read what you wrote and immediately thought to myself what a horrible world it would be if there was a constitutional right to a TV show.
  13. She looks like my Ariel kitty. Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute

    Six

I read this and I don't only think of Callen and Sage, but about each of us. I hope that somewhere there is a reality where things that we have each hoped for have happened. Those that we have loved and lost are still with us. Luc, you are simply an amazing writer.

    Five

I'm in awe. I didn't see this at all. A story with infinite possibilities offers infinite chances for hope. Wow.

    Four

Wow. This story brings out emotions in me. The way he learns his schedule reminds me of my freshman year in HS. It was as though you've seen inside my head and replayed parts of my past. I'm so damn impressed by it.

    Three

I'm mostly echoing what others have said, but I'm falling in love with Sage and Callen. While I suspected abuse, I was shocked by what ended up happening. A story with science and physics and alien life and genetics. OMG I'm in love.

    Two

I like Callen's different explanations and his amnesia. I wonder what he knows at this point. Does he remember how much time he has? I like that he even is a little flirty after all that has happened. I find myself wanting to know why they aren't together. Must. Read. More.

    One

I love the way you describe the scenes. I picture them in my head. I even saw Callen waxing his Ford Flex. What the color looked like. Amazing. I'm excited to read more. I also like the concept of your story. The idea that when it is all over we get a chance to finish something left unfinished or revisit the past. The story has already struck a chord with me.

    A Short Story

Wow. As LJH said in his review, the way you describe the scene is everything. You can see it in your eyes while you read it. Glad to see you back.
  21. Most affluent defendants can afford to hire lawyers that will devote considerable time to their case. There are numerous cases and studies that show public defenders rarely have enough time to adequately represent their clients given their caseload. Based on that, I'd say that his lawyers were able to convince the judge to keep the case in juvenile court. Under Texas law, defendants between the ages of 14 and 17 may be tried as an adult.
  22. Happy Birthday, John John!

    PAWN

This reminded me of something that happened years ago. It rings all too true for me having been robbed. I just love these short little stories. They are quick to read and always have an interesting twist. Bravo!

    WINK

The ending took me by surprise, but given I visit a Starbuck's at least 5 days a week and often the same people are there each time I'm not sure how you would notice the difference between stalkers and coffee fiends.
  25. Being related to someone doesn't mean that they love or even like you and it surely doesn't mean that you must love or like them. It would be awesome to live in this fantasy world where families all love each other and follow the golden rule, but there are way too many examples in this world of behavior by parents and other family members that involves physical, sexual or psychological abuse to ever make some of the blanket statements that have been made in this thread. I don't think anyone in this thread doesn't value the idea of family. For those of us who have an issue with a family member, it didn't happen overnight. Bobby took my cupcake! I'll hate him forever! My father changed his behavior towards me the day I came out. He's never hit me, other than spankings as a child, and he's never directly said anything derogatory to me. What he has done is make it obvious that my two other brothers are *his* children. I still love him and for the past 15 years I've tried to make him proud of me, or even notice me. I won't list all of the things I've tried to do to gain his approval, because the list is too long and pathetic. This past weekend, I watched 10 hours of sports with him because that is what he wanted to do. He didn't make any effort to ask about me the entire trip. Knowing that there are others out there who have been beat or sexually assaulted, I try to remember that this man fed me and didn't kick me out. I should be thankful for what I do have and not complain. I try to remember that everyday. I'm close to my mother and my older brother and that makes up for some of the psychological damage my father has caused. In a sense, I'm thankful that there are people who don't understand what it is like. It gives me hope that I could have children and avoid the mistakes my father made with me. I will not criticize others who have been so damaged by family members that they choose to avoid them.
