    Chapter 14

Ok, just when did you attend one of my family's open house Christmas Eve parties? Great job
  2. I highly recommend a bathtub of water with either Epsom salts or baking soda, depending on which is bothering me more, achy joints or dry ski .

    A Minor Mutiny

I see things getting heated very shortly for just these reasons. Unfair is unfair no matter where your dragon was hatched. Fixing things for some while others continue to suffer is bound to come back to bite the weyrleader.
  4. Assuming both plans are 80/20 URC the out of pocket should come to roughly $800 , of which would be reduced again if you have met deductibles. Once you hit max out of pocket bills stop. That's using rounded figures for fast math. You will need to keep close tract of what is paid and what is not. Insurance companies often deny charges on general principles, depending on people just paying the difference, knowing many just don't want to bother filing an appeal
  5. We do all the things Cia does, plus always have at least a case of bottled water in each truck that as we leave the house for any thing more than an hour gets a bag of ice, and a small cooler in the back seat that gets ONLY ice to go into our insulated water containers.

    Chapter 6

crazier than a border collie in a frisbee factory,” Sounds like my family I may need to borrow this one!
  8. Okaaaaaay... And I thought I had to deal with weirdos at work!
  9. Why I changed to group texting toward the end of my tenure as barn manager. Got very tired of being told I never said things.
  10. You were more polite than I would have been! But then, I am currently on the short side of patience this week.
  11. Lol it thinks it's a briefcase! But it is really a function of how small the back seat is in the old truck.
  12. Woo-hoo! Just bought a new (used) truck! Dodge Ram mega cab. The back seat is huge, and there is storage behind it and built into the floor. No more having most of the back seat taken up by my work bag, purse, etc!
  13. Your guy is a rarity. Mine has three docs in the office, and rhey stager times. One runs on the hour, the second on the quarter and the third on the half, so even though they run pretty much on time, there is always a couple of people waiting
  14. Jack is home and back to himself. Of course first thing I did was clean the trough. Then I sent him a pick of the slime, all swirly from the scrub brush, before rinsing with the caption " if it EVER looks like this again I will use your bearded face to scrub it". Yes, I am angry. Unfortunately I can't leave until I find an alternative source of care and custody insurance.

    The Telgar Way

It might be interesting to see someone try to tell a hungry dragon they can't eat
  16. Warning - Rant ahead. If you are not in the mood, please skip this post! So, you all know I had been a barn manager for the better part of 15 years, but in the last 2 years the barn hands we had would not listen to anything I had to say. Frustration drove me to tender my resignation last fall, and I have been much better off for it. One of the main issues we went around the circles about was feed and water. I repeatedly told them buckets and troughs had to be scrubbed at the minimum of every other day, especially in the summer. Horses need to drink upwards of 15 gallons a day, and most will not drink out of a scummy trough or bucket. Not drinking enough will lead to colic Another was how much water was put into a meal that needed to be soaked. They frequently put too small an amount in because if they made it "too wet" it would stick in the bucket and they then needed to scrape it into the dinner dish. Older horses get wet feed to improve their gut function. Too dry will slow motility and can lead to colic. Feed that needs to be soaked should be wet an hour or so before meal time. Too far in advance leads to bacterial growth that leads to - you guessed it - colic. It is important to note here that colic CAN BE FATAL. Well, it was time for my regular "scrub buckets better, scrub troughs more" bitchfest. Both the buckets in Jacks stall and his outside trough was scummy. I bitched, but was again ignored. Was there at meal time and found his dinner too dry. I bitched again and was ignored again Found out that even though I said no, they were still soaking breakfast before going home the night before, allowing it to sit over night to save them time in the morning. In the 90* heat. Can we say "Bacterial incubator"? Over the weekend I bitched loud and long to the stable owner. Monday a horse turned up with colic. He had become dehydrated, then when he rolled in the dust to alleviate the sweat, things had more room inside because of the dehydration, and a portion of his intestine became trapped between the spleen and kidney, requiring hospitalization. He also showed high bacterial counts in his gut. Vet at the clinic didn't understand why that didn't give him very loose stool. Because the owner vaccinated against botulism, knowing the feed sitting overnight was unhealthy. Yes, MY HORSE Jack just spent 4 days in an equine clinic because the asshats cant listen to common sense. I don't even want to see what that bill will come to. I had to give a $1500 deposit before he even got off the trailer. I want to bill the barn owner. Hubby says I can't do that. IMO it was negligence on their part, that they had been told over and over they could not do what they were doing, that sooner or later issues would occur. But then - WTF do I know? I have only been in the horse business for 40 years, and that doesn't count the time I spent at the barn as a young teen. Just from when they started paying me. The 20 something that just started riding last year and asked to work to pay her lessons knows so much more than me. The dude who barely speaks English and works 2 other jobs besides knows that the easier he can make his day is better right? What's wrong with wetting feed in 90* heat then letting it sit for 14 or 15 hours? Ok - rant over. Thanks for listening and if you skipped the body of the rant, no hard feelings. Sometimes just ranting helps even if no one listens.

    Chapter 18

Methinks Sin's dad is about to find out just how protective a pair of Doms can be.
  19. I'm with Spyke on this one! There is absolutely no reason on gods green earth to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Ranks up there with jumping off a bridge with nothing between me and an impact but a rubber band with a hormone problem!

    Chapter 20

For an author that doesn't frequent the cliffs, you sure picked a dosie for this one!
  21. My two bits say let it ride. Had Patty and family wanted to tell you they would not have moved without saying anything. Granted at 12 Patty didn't have much to say in the matter, but she has long since grown up and not contacted you. The child could have been put up for adoption or been raised as Patty's sibling. If s/he wants to find you they will, but don't rock the apple cart. The child may be in their 50's now but may have no clue about the circumstances of their birth.
  22. First day off in 3 weeks! Heading out for a day of "Let's see what we can find" shore version.
  23. Well then you will walk away with it! Just certifying skills you already have. Go smash em lady!
  24. Well answer K's question. How long till she gets chapter 1 ???
