Here we go again. Roasted at the show, high 88* yesterday. Today's forecast high? 68* I am starting to feel like a yoyo.

Ok, I've had enough horse show for one day. Temps went up to 88*. Two days ago high was 59*. I can't deal well with 30* temp jumps. Horses were all well behaved, people not so much. The mare discovered the cookie jar in the tack room, pulled it out and then set about figuring out how to open it. Sneaky thing she is!

7:30 and the first pieces of tack have finally been loaded. I am just the driver, so I am sitting here with my morning caffeine watching the antics. I did warn the trainer that every minute they waste here reduces prep time at the show. One mom, a new horse owner, d I d try to give me detailed instructions on how to load her horse. I suggested she load him herself. Her answer? I've never done it before.

Nope. Is a semi regular client from the other side of town. She calls me when she has more girls showing than her 2 horse trailer can carry.

Okay, what part of "load the horses at 7" is ambiguous? I calculate load time based on how hard some horses are to get into the trailer, distance we need to travel, the earliest horse to hit the show ring, lead time to dress horse and rider, plus a fudge factor to cover unplanned for issues. Load at 7 does NOT mean arrive at the barn 6:55 and start feeding and turnout. It's now 6:45, the client is nowhere to be seen and the 8 horses on this side of the barn are all staring at me with the "I'm starting, why are you not feeding me" face

We were powerless 13 days after Sandy. If you pack the bowl of ice tightly and with chips around the cubes you can get a rough idea of how long it was out. I ran a few experiments after sandy, figuring most of the food was a goner anyway. I used a tall iced tea glass. Ice held fine for 24 hours, coin was still at almost the top at 36. By 48 it was melted enough to sink past the remaining ice to the bottom, but there was some cube shape left.

Are we talking about "rank" ( mine is lead mare) or "community reputation" ( mine is also master scribe 2nd class). The rank is the one can be changed after attaining a pre determined rep level.

So an elemental has been fueling the fire. The big question is why? A desire to propagate species of plant that needs a burn to flourish? Seems like small controlled burns would work better. Had she lost her mind? Hard to interrogate a pile of ash.
