Entitled families have been told they are no longer welcome at our place when they mistreat horses like that. I have gone so far as to escort one "gentleman" off the property at the end of a dressage whip when he hit a horse between the eyes with what I think was a rock, though I am not sure. Lets just say I have given more whip marks to people like him than all the horses I have ever ridden in my life! The horse staggered but was ok as pronounced by a vet btw. I sent him the bill.

No power in the barn? I would have a heated water bucket, even if I had to run power just for that. They don't draw that much and I have never heard of an instance of fire caused by one. Wires are armored too to prevent a silly horse from playing with it and zapping themselves.

They have predicted 1 to 3 inches bbn of snow every couple days for about 3 weeks now, and we have barely covered the grass. Today they say 3 to 6 with a period of ice in the middle, and I see no signs of prep among my neighbors. Grocery store even had milk and bread, something the word snow seems to make disappear. If the weather geeks are right we are in trouble!

Well done sir! Surprise visits are one thing, and quite acceptable. Showing up a day early, mear hours after scheduling a visit smacks of trying to catch the boys out at something. Yes the whole situation is unusual, but sometimes unusual has to be dealt with. I agree with the one reader, I think they were trying to catch them in removing evidence of restraints or something! Actually it went rather well. The kids she was late for the lesson for are self sufficient, I only had to cover till she showed up, and I would have stood there visiting with mom anyway! The rest is part of a normal day. Some smiths like to have the horses tied, others prefer them being held, and of course some horses just will not stand no matter what you do. These five all are good children. It's more like a coffee break than work. Junior wasn't gone long! Bet Cookie will be glad she can stop looking for him. But you should teach her to seek him out on command. Instead of "Lassie get help" it can be "Cookie get help"

The scary part is we understand him most of the time! I'll raise you 4 horses for the smith, chip in an hour therapy session and covering for the head instructor who was late again.

Good morning everyone. I am having an "I don't WANT to go to work day" so of course they call me with errands they forgot to tell me they need done. Why can they not tell me they put the last of the diesel fuel into the tractor BEFORE they run it dry and need to load trucks ? Now need to leave three hours before my first lesson to get fuel because the first dump truck is sitting there waiting. I want to tell them lack of planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
