    Plagiarism

I’m of the opinion that there’s nothing new under the sun.
  2. @kbois De Niro was in Limitless and Brazil, but does that qualify him as a Sci-Fi hero? Inquiring mind wants to know!
  3. Well, and wasn't Uranus fun! I'm not going to attempt to parcel out what we all just went through with that, so I'll just move along. Also, I'm in the process of looking for a new apartment and I don't have much spare time. Remember... This is science fiction you're writing for. All other topics are finished. Have fun with this next one. Your writing subject for SIX-WORDED SCI-FI is: The Hero
  4. Congratulations!
  5. I guess I wasn’t clear on that, sorry. Each new topic supersedes the one before it, folks. Humor is always appreciated but what each person writes is up to them. Edit: I have edited the original post to include this important point.
  6. Is this for the Alien topic, which is finished. Or is it for the current Uranus topic, Bill? If it’s for the latest then I’d like to hear your thoughts on why you chose the wording.
  7. Icy blue and rings aglow, spectacular.
  8. No, I have not seen the meme, I tend to gloss over the things. I did “like” your post because, yes, after all the fun jokes we have for the planet even Doug sounds better than Georgium Sidus (George’s Star or -Planet, in honor of King George III).
  9. Bud, this probably belongs in the “Never have I ever” topic.
  10. Okay, okay. You all do know that we’re writing about the planet, right?
  11. Are you saying he’s going to have a field day on Uranus?!!
  12. I’ve been asked to consider seven words, but then, why not thirteen, or twenty, or even fifty words? The Boston Globe newspaper has a submission feature that offers readers the opportunity to tell a personal story about the city in fifty words, and every Sunday the paper features one. Rarely does a week go by without a story. But that’s not what we’re after. No one is telling a complete story in six words here although you can encapsule the idea of one, which is what we’re after. I will let you in on a little secret. Hyphenated words count as one, for example: Ron gave us a long-winded story. On the topic: Alien... @kbois was the only post to tackle the actual appearance of an alien. A few posts featured interactions with an alien. A lot of posts took on the dynamic and always exciting alien invasion trope. @Daddydavek garnered the most reactions with eight. (Please note the post included ten words, that’s a no-no but I’ll let it slide this time. ) One poster managed to capture a long-time abduction phenomenon, and his probing insight on the subject was… well, let’s say he thought about this a lot. “My butt is sore. Wonder why…” didn’t garner the most reactions but it did capture the spirit of the topic. One of the planets in our solar system has been in the news of late because the James Webb telescope captured an amazing image of it. I’ll let @astone2292 cheeky posts lead us into the next SIX-WORDED SCI-FI. Your assignment: Uranus
  13. Hold your horses and get ready to gallop. Tomorrow will bring a new adventure for SIX-WORDED SCI-FI.
  14. It blinked. I screamed and ran.
  15. WIRED magazine came up with an idea for readers to submit a science fiction story in six words. They gave readers an assignment to base their stories on and then vetted the submissions. They list a winner and honorable mentions. I thought it might be fun to do that here, with the vetting being done by the members: All reactions will count. Keep in mind that you don't need Author statis to submit your story. I'll try to produce a new topic every couple of weeks, although, if you have a sci-fi idea and you'd like me to feature it PM me and I'll pop it up as we go. Feel free to comment all you like but if you want to enter a story -- Enter your six-worded story alone in a post. Enter as often as you like. I'll start us out in my next post below. Your assignment: Author a story about an alien in six words. EDIT TO ADD: Each new assignment/topic/subject supersedes the one before it and becomes the focus for new exploration.
  16. Jamaica is raising its minimum wage by 44% later this year to $85.00 for a 40 hour work week. Whoo hoo, let the celebrating begin.
  17. Back Door Donuts to open Boston pop-up. Find yours here at: "...the side door at Loretta's last call, which is directly next to Lucky Strike."
  18. Yes. This. And it is always to a person's best advantage to assume everything they do on their work computer is known to their employer. And, if one is using their own computer for work while using the company internet, they know exactly what is being accessed online. So do yourself a favor and stick to the work you're supposed to be doing and save the fun for elsewhere.
  19. I -- once upon a time -- as a teenager, entered a zucchini at my county fair. I won first place!
  20. Yeah, I originally posted (you responded) about this issue back in January of 2022. This justice has been a long time coming!
  21. Well, the defendant made a mistake on a phone call while in jail, which was recorded as they often are, and confessed his crime to his niece. Finally, an ending. Search for justice concludes.
  22. The editor of Stereophile magazine did a Q+A session with the AI and shared the results in an editorial in the newest issue, let's say he had a curious discussion. At first it did well to answer a question. Then when it was later found to be wrong on another question, the AI first apologized for the mistake and then used another incorrect term to answer the question, and this repeated a second time. After being corrected again it attempted to justify its response even though it was incorrect.

    Poetry Prompts

Wow! Yes, eight-and-a-half years ago I too joined in and wrote a Tanka - one of three poems I've published here on GA. They were simple things really but damn hard to do.
  24. So, @Bill W may not be far off in thinking. According to Wiktionary the term canoodle may be a reference to two person canoes used to escape chaperones during the Victorian and Edwardian times to achieve privacy. The true etymology of the word is unknown, but this is a better explanation than others which are of even less certain evidence.
  25. And so, it begins...
