  5. I began working at the local Hospital when I was 16. So basically, I've worked in the Health Care industry all my working life. I've worked in Dietary, gotta start somewhere, Surgery, Housekeeping and Laundry. I'll tell you some about the place I work now. I work at a County owned 470 bed Nursing Home. I am the Assistant Director of Environmental Services. Which means I help run the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments, with my primary duties in the Laundry. I've been doing this since here September 28, 1992. THE EQUIPMENT: 4 - 450 lb. open pocket washers 1 - 300 lb. open pocket washer 1 - 50 lb. open pocket washer Open pockets are the same as the front loading machines you can find in Laundry Mats. To give you an idea of how much these washers hold, one 450 will hold the equivalent to 18 regular top loading home machines. 2 - 400 lb dryers 1 - 200 lb. dryer 2 - flat work Ironer's along with sheet feeders and folders. 2 - Small Piece Folders, for folding bath towels and patient gowns. 1 - Garment Steam Tunnel, for the removal of wrinkles and drying of Residents clothing. We don't have the time to hand press each piece of clothing. We also have a water reclamation system that is used. This system was installed when they built this Laundry. With this system, we reuse the final rinse at the end of one load and use it at the beginning of another. In August 2004, an Ozone system was installed. This was installed for an energy program the county entered into. A heat reclamation system was also installed the year before. This system was hooked into the exhaust ducts of the dryer. The heat heading out is caught by a wheel, similar to that of a car radiator, and is picked up by the fresh air coming in. We also have a couple of conveyor systems we use to move the finished product to central areas to be wrapped in plastic material. My main function is to oversee the overall operation of the department. I have 2 supervisors who oversee the daily operation and a staff of 28.
  6. Hey Nick, Glad to hear things are going better for you. And I'm glad to hear Taylor is doing better.
  7. Empathy has one he's working on, 'A Cursed Life'. You can check it out by clicking the link in my Signature. Jan
  8. If and when Myr gets the Gallery going, I plan to add some photo's there of some of the coasters that I have ridden like The Beast and Son of Beast, both at King's Island. Not to mention The Raven, The Legend and The Voyage, all at Holiday World, and The Hoosier Hurricane and Corn Ball Express at Indiana Beach, just to mention a few.
  9. When it comes to chocolate, be warned about the No Sugar Added stuff. If you should decide to try some, not that you said you would, enjoy only the recommended amounts or you'll pay for it later. Trust me on this one. Jan
  10. I've never thought of a coaster being a work of art, but you're right, they are. There are some beautifully done one's out there. Due to park space available, Talon is considered a compact coaster. It delivers just as big a punch as it's larger cousins like The Raptor at Cedar Point and Alpinegeist at Busch Gardens. Jan

  15. Maybe it has something to do with all the birthdays today?
  16. The Talon House This actually comes from another blog that I have going. While doing the last post, I happened to think, I should tell the story behind The Talon House. I joined Deweywriter in December of 2003. That same month while on Christmas vacation, I met a friend of a long time friend of mine. He and I became friends. B, at one point started his own forum board Lonecoyote79. Later that year, B decided to pull a disappearing act on his friends. Not knowing what was going to happen to that board, I decided to start my own. After discussing this with a couple of people and what I wanted to do, a format was chosen and I contacted forums4 free and started my own free site. The board I got just happened to be by Invision Power Services. On July 14, 2004, The Talon House went online. In October 2004, F4F upgraded their servers. When they did this, it caused problems for the House. I tried several times to contact F4F to have the problem they caused, corrected. Never got a answer from them. I then checked into Invision Power Boards and switched to them. So The Talon House became a hosted site. Fortunately, I had a back-up copy of the original site to start up the new hosted one, so I only lost about 4 weeks worth of posts. The design for The House is a cross between two sites, Deweywriter and the now defunct Lonecoyote79. LC79 was set up like a house with rooms for forum names. I used sub-forum ideas from DW. I later added the chat room, a.k.a. the Fone Booth. Since I love to ride Roller Coasters, I chose Talon @ Dorney Park and Wild Water Kingdom as the coaster name I would use, henceforth, I became 'Talonrider'. Unfortunately, the pictures I have are too large to post here. But, you can go here to see some photo's.
  17. That could be one reason for the lack of posting. But I also know one member is on holiday with his family, so he's not been around this week, but should be back soon.

  20. It's been a busy week for me. This past Wednesday was the Annual Employee Christmas Luncheon at work. So I had to be back to work at 1 in the morning until 4. Then back in at 10 am thru 1st and 2nd shift meals. Every year the Department heads, prepare and serve the meal for the staff. I spent yesterday, Thursday, recovering and uploading some new skins for The Talon House?, including a new seasonal one. Since the upgrade, the old ones no longer work properly. Today, was spent shopping, and I can now say, I'M DONE! Of course, I took the easy way out by buying gift cards. Later this evening, I plan to do a little celebrating instead of tomorrow. Jan

All sites have their share of problems similar to these. And each site is different. At The Talon House, I have a place for rants and complaints. Complaints are held in the "Bathroom" while debates, or rants, can be held in the Kitchen where it can be done as a "Food Fight." Funny I know, but in keeping with the theme of a house, what do you expect? I'm also on the Tribal Council at another site. When something like this comes up, usually all it takes is this simple phrase to stop it, "Okay, let's cool it guy's" and it stops. Nothing more needs to be done. If it does continues, then notice is sent to those that keep it going and that thread gets locked. And that's an Admin decision. I for one haven't been a member here all that long and I would hate to see Myr close it. Myr has done his best to provide us all with a safe site where WE can be ourselves. I'm one of the older adults here and I have a lot of respect for the younger people who come here, especially the teens who come here looking for friendship and fellowship with people like themselves. I would hate to see that come to an end. When I start up a friendship with some on in chat under the age of 18, I will let them know up front, there are some things that we won't talk about. As evident by my member tag, I'm an editor and I'm also the Editing Lead for the Editor/Beta Reader program. I'm also a member of the WST, so like 'Birds', I've seen some the things they do. If you read my siggy, you'll see that 3 of the 4 authors listed I work with, all write sci-fi/fan. Granted, not all people like it, but I do. Over the past year or so, I have come across some great stories. Nifty has some but not to the quality you'll find here, and yes I know, some of the same stories there are here. I for one, appreciate all the Myr, and the rest of his staff, have done. Jan

Sharon, you're right and I agree. Personally, I look at the humorous side of the games. I don't always participate, but I get a laugh out of some of them. Jan
