  1. Welcome to GA Greymaine. I think most of wondered in and out of here before joining. Jan
  2. This has been a weird week and I'm glad it's over. We got hit this week, Wednesday, with the first major storm of the winter season. Though it was nearly as bad as New York state, it was still bad. We got hit with a wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain. To make things worse, add in the bitter cold and wind that followed it. The worst part of it was the people that were stranded in their cars on I78 for over 24 hours. The worst part of the week came in the form of a phone call from Security at work. They had called me to inform me of a phone call they had from the daughter-in-law of one of my staff. One of my staff had died suddenly Monday evening at home. I went in to work early Tuesday morning and got the staff together first thing. I gave the staff time together to grieve for their co-worker. Some sat quietly, some cried, and some spoke of past memories. After 15 minutes, I quietly told them when they were ready to go to work they could. I spent the rest of the morning on the production floor talking with staff and making sure they were doing okay. Chester will always be remembered as the Rain Man. I think it was 3 years ago, that when ever Chester was off, it would rain. It was like that for the whole spring, summer, and fall. He was of course teased about this for a long time. We will always think of Chester every time it rains now. A collection was started within the department and $300.00 was collected. A separate collection was started for the rest of the facility. When I made the announcement at the morning Administrative stand-up meeting, the Administrator ordered the County flag to lowered to half staff for a week. This act surprised and pleased my staff when they found this out.

    Diabetes

One thing that has crossed my mind is, if I do get the pump, how is it going to affect my roller coaster riding? There are several different types out there with different types of restraints. The doctor did have me try another pill that didn't seem to do anything. At one, I was taking 3 different pills, one that didn't seem to be helping after a couple of years. I'm down to two pills now and once the current dose of Actos is gone, I will stop taking that one leaving just one pill twice daily. I also take Humalog with my evening meal. The amount I take depends, on the amount of carbs I'll be injesting. Weight is not a problem. At the onset of diabetes, I weighed 210 pounds and over a period of time, I lost 60 of them and have gradually reached 180, which personally, I'd like to lose 10. There is a history of diabetes in the family. All type 1.
  5. Hey Kevin. We all have our set standards as to what we want and look for in someone. Unfortunately, there are those out there looking for one thing and one thing only. Phil may have liked what he saw in YOU and may want to get to know you for who you are. Chances are that even if nothing comes of it, you've made a friend. The main thing is to be who you are. Jan

    Diabetes

Being a diabetic can be fun. I was diagnosed as a type 2 a few years ago. I had one of my normal checkups today. It seems I'm moving towards becoming a type 1. It would seems that the oral meds I take aren't doing the job they should be. Besides the oral meds I take, I've also been taking a couple of different injections, mainly at night. As far as my daily activities. There are days I spend most of my time in my office working instead of on the production floor with my staff. I also try to use my treadmill two to three times a week. It's good exercise plus it builds up my stamina for the hills that some amusement parks have. And I'll need that for a park I hope to visit this summer in Virgina. I have my next appointment in April in which I will have the usual lab work done the week before. This time, the doctor has added a test that she hasn't had done before. She's going to have my antibodies checked to see if my body is rejecting, or at least destroying the oral meds I take before they have a chance to work. She did say that I would be a good candidate for the pump if it turns out I've become a type 1. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the pump. This could prove interesting.
  7. Well done CJ. It might be interesting to try and track down and read everything that you've had to say these past centuries. Jan
  8. I remember watching the movie version years ago on HBO in which Peter Furth played the part. Jan
  9. Does this mean you'll have to use your fingers to see him?

  12. Way to go Graeme. I always knew you were a postaholic. Jan
  13. You're such a tease, Jan! Like the guy with the super deep voice who does the trailer ad's for big movies. I want to read it now! Camy ps how about a sneak peak Nick? Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.
  14. After pulling a double shift on Monday and working 2nd shift the rest of the week, it was nice to have a three day. It was a busy weekend tho. I spent a good part of the time editing 4 chapters for one author and a couple of new ones for Nick. I know that sounds like a lot of work, but it was fun to do. I also spent some time having a couple in depth chat's with an author friend of mine about his latest chapter release. Now it's time to reread Book 2 of The Scrolls of Icaria from the beginning and review some of the chapters from Book 1 on a couple of points. Jan
  15. Nick and I chatted the other day about this new story idea of his. I sent him an email today encouraging him to try something different. Write a story without explicit sex. I told him there are stories out there that have a hint of sex in it, 'The Scrolls of Icaria', by Jamie. And stories without it, like Graeme's stories, just to mention a couple. We even chatted about it some today: Nickolasjames8: I just emailed you the first chapter of my new story TalonRider1: k, it should be here anytime then Nickolasjames8: Nickolasjames8: It might be a little dark TalonRider1: something a little different then Nickolasjames8: I want you to see it first because I wrote it from the perspective of a 64 year old man TalonRider1: lol thanks a lot Nickolasjames8: no not that..lol TalonRider1: LOL Nickolasjames8: just that I've never done it before Nickolasjames8: and I want your honest opinion TalonRider1: i know what you meant. Nickolasjames8: lol TalonRider1: i just had to pull your chain a little I couldn't resist the age thing with him. Is it a little dark? Yes, but then again life isn't always a bed of roses. Is it emotional? Yes, I didn't have dry eye's by the time I got to the end of the first chapter. Am I giving anything away? No, I would not do that. The story does have potential and I don't think anyone will be disappointed in it. Jan

    It's War

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!! Something that I forgot to mention. The hot water is an on demand system and was set a little high. Lets just say it was hot enough to make a cup of coffee. The landlord had to turn it down. She burned herself. And since the heating system for the house is a boiler, for steam heat, it also heats the water. She has to hear this boiler running as it is located under her living room. I know, I had access to that apartment the winter before she moved in. The heat for the whole house is controlled by the thermostat in that apartment.
  19. Good one James. It's going to be an interesting day at work Monday. I'm a displaced Colts fan living in Eagles country.

    It's War

It's War, I tell ya, it's war. :2hands: I live in the upstairs apartment of an older house. A couple of years ago, an older woman moved in to the downstairs apartment. She has a bad habit of turning on the water, or flushing the toilet when I'm trying to use the water for doing the dishes or taking a shower. I would usually start stomping on the floor to get her attention to turn off the water. One day, when I got home from work, she was waiting on me. She asked me if I was mad at her. So we had a talk. I told her, the stomping was usually due to her turning on the water while I was in the shower or trying to run water to do the dishes. Things got better for awhile. Here lately, she's back to doing it again. Usually, Sunday morning is the one day I can count on getting a decent shower. NOT today! She didn't go to church. Here I am about to stick my head under the shower head to rinse off the shampoo when I find the water is getting cold. I start stomping. Shortly there after, the water gets warmer. But that's not the end of it. A short time later, she does it again, and so do I. So why don't I shower in the morning then, you might ask. I don't think it would make any difference. She's up and about while I'm getting ready for work. I don't think she would pay any attention to hearing running water above her and flush her toilet anyway. Back on December 30th, when I got home from an all day drive that started at 6 in the morning, I decide to get something to eat and then take a shower. It's a good thing I did. On Sunday morning, the next day, she went to church and left her toilet running. I know, I could hear it in my bathroom, which is right above hers. It made me glad I showered the night before. Something that I want to do is talk to the landlord. I think the tenant next door has moved out. The landlord owns a car lot next door. He uses a small portion of the house as an office, so I'd like to see what the place looks like and what the rent would be. I do get some measure of revenge tho. When I shower now, I turn the stereo and crank it up so I can here it.
  21. Between the browser I use and firewall, 99.99% of all pop-ups don't make make it thru.
  22. Normally, when I make my annual Christmas trip home to Indiana, from the Philly area, I see snow in the mountains but not this year. I almost didn't get to see any snow while there. It snowed for a while on Christmas day, but it didn't stay long. Jan
  23. The weathers been a roller coaster ride so far this season. We've gone from a high of 70 last Saturday to a high of 38 by Wednesday. Our forecast high for this coming weekend is 60. We've had rain, which caused a Flood Watch to be posted and a 15 minute snow storm on Wednesday. I'm expecting to see some bad weather Friday 1/26/07 as I'm taking the day off to attend a workshop on Editing and Proofreading. Jan
  24. Funny you should mention a calender, Dan. I too got one for Christmas from a friend. The one I got has a beautiful winter shot of Dorney Park and a shot of The Voyage going thru one it's 90 degree banked curves. By any chance are you a member of ACE?
  25. I finally got around to posting some pictures of roller coasters that I've ridden. At this point, I've still got a some photo's to upload like pictures from the Sweetest Park on earth, Hershey Park, another PA park and a couple of parks from Virginia. My favorite Wood coaster is The Beast at King's Island located approximately 20 miles north of Cincinnati, Ohio in Kings Mill. The Beast is nestled in the woods of the park. The only part visible from the ground is the top of the first lift hill. Even from the top level of the 1/3rd scale version of the Eiffel Tower all you can see is the first lift hill and the helix. The park made effective use of the terrain in building it. At 7400 feet in length it's quite a ride, especially after dark. There's very little lighting so it makes for a nice dark ride. King's Island is also know as the park with first's. They built the first suspended coaster, The Bat, the first standup coaster, King Cobra.
