  1. It was a Marine, and like all Marines the first thing to go up on him was his legs so I can't really remember seeing his size. The gun was a 5", yes. We almost got caught after sneaking up through the upper handling room through the gun hatch, but managed to finish the deed in time. Just don't ask about the poor aft lookout that got caught by yours truly when he was having his U/I suck him off after darken ship (U/I is under instructin - trainee). They freaked because only lookouts and armed security patrols were allowed on deck after darken ship and he thought I wouldn't be back for 30 minutes since I had just checked them. LIke any good guard, I rotated my pattern so I never visited any of the check points in the same order as the previous round. I had so much fun later that night after I got off duty.... OH damn, gotta stop telling sea stories and get Mark to write more chapters of St Vincent since I love the story...
  2. Time the DC get together right and Trebs and I MIGHT make it. We'll be in Charlotte in August for the Dem National Convention. It'd be nice to do another DC get together. Last time was January 2009 while we were in Washington for um...the festivities. Then again, we seem to end up meeting with some members every couple of months for dinner in one city or another here in California.
  3. Oh jeezus, I'm never looking at a cannon the same way again. I admit to never having sex bent over the barrel of a cannon, but does on the breech block/loading bay of a 5"38 gun mount come close? With a marine? http://en.wikipedia....un_Assembly.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4b/Fletcher_class_destroyer-detail.jpg Gotta admit, we weren't quite as bad as the Belvidera, but this story makes me smile with some fond memories of days in the Navy.
  4. Nope, you're not hearing whining. I am not crying out for more after a beautiful moment for taking a deep breath and discovering new mysteries... More? Please? Soon?

    Chapter 12

Great story - love the Halo party. Sounds so typically teenager.
  6. aaaarggghhh! Derek! So much progress and yet so many steps backwards at the same time! Loved the chapter, ready to cry for Derek and for Charlie, and Travis as well. Hopefully the next chapter starts with Charlie seeing Hero walk away and pulling him back where he belongs.... So, um, new chapter tomorrow? Please?
  7. Great chapter and I look forward to more - hopefully more than just one more chapter with these characters...
  8. Now on to the future (I hope), and I really hope Derek gets to sit down with the crazy sandwich lady alot in the days and weeks ahead.
  9. Interesting story so far - I look forward to more! Not sure how I would have handled Seeon's situation. I'd have probably gone insane by this point!

    Epilogue

Darn it - a train ride into San Francisco, walk down the Embarcadero (to show the kids the Occupy SF camp) and BART ride out to Milbrae followed by a two mile walk to the hotel all meant I didn't get to read this wonderful end to a wonderful story. Great Job! (oh and some of us might have enjoyed the extra legalism, but it was still good!)

    First Day

Good start. Gotta love a good zombie story. Hope to see more soon.
  12. Loved the delivery of the verdict and the way the atmosphere of the court room was established. Perfectly delivered!
  13. Things just got a lot more interesting... Great chapter and I can't wait for more!

    Displacement

Displacement marks my return to sci-fi, so I guess it could be described as 'classic'. For some reason though that just makes me feel old. Hope you continue to enjoy the story as it progresses. As far as returning to the sci-fi genre, this one was an amazing story to write.

    Displacement

He was just another Average Joe. Then he was displaced, not just from his home, his school, or his country, but from the earth itself. Now he has to survive strange lizards, hostile humans, and becoming something more than just average.
  16. Great closing argument. I've loved the entire trial and it reminds me of the lure becoming an attorney once had for me - too bad all the negatives outweighed the moments like the one in this chapter. Spinning this off into its own story was absolutely perfect. It allows us to focus solely on the legal aspects of the case outside of the Second Shot story line and gives this the attention it so richly deserves. Add in that you're dealing with a new addition to the house, well that just makes it even better. Just wait though...writing only becomes more difficult the older they get.
  17. Very nice, very subtle in so many ways.

    Ch 25: Spiral

i can't help but hope Derek manages to frack Travis over. He and his father need to be taken down about twenty pegs here. Yeah, yeah, okay, so I like Derek and hope he gets together with Charlie in the end - at least as friends again. As always - MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE...ouch. that was not pot hitting kettle. I swear, it wasn't.
  19. Arrerggggghhhhhh. Cliffhangers suck. Now we have to wait another week??? I can't wait to see what is emerging from Derek and I really can't wait to see what happens with Charlie. So, who wants to bet Dad caught Derek and Charlie kissing and that started this whole mess?

    Chapter 22

Nope sorry not enough. I demand more!!! Pretty please??
  21. argh!!!!! More! I demand More! Now! Now! Now! (In other words I liked!)
  22. I once sat with an attorney friend and discussed all the negative aspects of various possible fields of law. Being a prosecutor was great, except when you began realizing that far too often the officers were lying as badly as the crooks. Family law was fine until some deranged husband decided to slash your tires because you got a restraining order for his wife. We both shuddered at the mere mention of corporate law, and I realized that no, law school wasn't worth it for me. I'll leave the real legal fights to those that like it and can stand it while I just get to read juicy, wonderful, riveting stories like this one. It's a fine legal drama and you're right: It deserves its own focus outside of Second Shot (another story I absolutely love) Great job on these stories - I want more!

    Chapter 9

Glad to see the story continued. I always enjoy a good vampire story!
  24. I have really enjoyed this story from the beginning (enough to log on for the first time in a long, long time to tell you this). Sure, I've got some ideas of what is going on with Derek and I can't wait to see how wrong, or right, I am. The gradual build up of Derek and the problems he faces, whether he knows it or not, has been excellent, excruciating, and ever so enjoyable. Every time I see a new chapter up my day gets just a little bit better....

    Hard Knocks

“Life is full of Hard Knocks, kid, it’s how you deal with them that makes the difference.” Kevin always imagined that his father would have told him that, but he’d never met the man. Working hard, he’d pulled himself out of the swamps of his birth and into Stanford, pitching his way into a full-ride scholarship. Now he’s got another hard knock to deal with, this time from the hand of his ex-girlfriend and the public disgrace that followed.
