But then, so is a cicada!

    Out and about

Hmmm....is Heyward a British version of Trump? I can't add to the comments about your writing @Robert Hugill: you have certainly mastered the craft!

    Chapter 11

From his speech, it's hard to believe Pete is 14 years old. The fact that he has coached his baseball teammates points to his maturity beyond his age. Still, he has the normal 14 year-old emotional development. I think that the celebration at the restaurant may be one where he finds that Uncle George may have arranged for permanent adoption (my hope!). Great writing!

    Twenty-Two

I really like that Thomas and Keith are so open with each other - it shows how much trust is growing between them. It will be interesting to see what happens with Stan!

    Chapter 10

Micca Onenut, I believe, is very concerned about his job and livelihood. That is no excuse for his behavior, but I grew up with that type of cloud over my father's head which manifested itself in his being an alcoholic. Thankfully, instead of external rage like Micca, he turned silent, passive/aggressive. While i understand this behavior, the effect was felt deeply by me when I was all but ignored by him for a variety of reasons. That he will forever be reminded of his actions by his loss of not only his testicle, but also by the treatment he will receive from his family is only just! Pete is everything said by Uncle George and in the comments. It's amazing he that instead of having absorbed and lived the values of his mother, he has grown in spite of her values.

    At the 122 Club

I do like Heyward's self description in trying to right some wrongs of his father. I also feel Dan's discomfort in that situation. I continue to be wowed by your wordsmithing!

    Twenty-One

Keith is learning that his fears and worries were not founded in the reality that he is experiencing. He also realizes how Thomas has become an integral part of his life.

    Chapter 9

@Summerabbacat: You asked when Uncle was going to come clean. I thought this exchange between Peter and him spoke loudly to me: “This is kinda embarrassing to talk about, Uncle. But you said I can talk to you about anything? Even sex, right?” “Yes, I did, and you can. In case you failed to notice, I know more about gay sex than you do.” “Yeah, I’ve kinda wondered about that. Maybe someday you can tell me about it?

    Chapter 9

Yes, you planted the hints @Al Norris, but guess I just wanted to see Mitch as a good guy! He certainly is not thinking with the big head either! He's actually playing very dangerously. Hormones vs rationality! Hormones usually win! Still doesn't make him a bad person, but one who is making bad decisions and behaving badly. I would like to think he can turn things around! Pete, while very mature for his age, still has to endure the pains of growing up. Great descriptive writing! And confirmation from Uncle George.

    Martin and Bart

Ah, the demands and whims of the apparently obscenely rich Heyward! Interesting security provided by Dan and his crew - the "uniforms" will certainly keep eyes of faces! Dan and Vaughn are developing quite the type of relationship where each feels comfortable and based.

    Chapter 8

I believe Mitch feels that Pete's life is getting to busy for him and starts looking elsewhere. Or there might be a totally innocent reason for his taking off. Next chapter, please! As for the rest of the issues in this chapter, they were eloquently described in the other comments. I don't want to just repeat what was said, but totally agree with the insights.

    Chapter 7

The bond between Peter and George is getting stronger! I am an American who would love to see stricter gun laws, especially in cities. I understand the use of guns for hunting if what is hunted is eaten and not just sport. Otherwise, I really don't like guns! I do understand that there are more stabbings in the UK... I would love to eat that dinner too!

    Chapter 5

That system exists in many jurisdictions in the U.S.

    Chapter 6

I love George's quiet, humble, but determined approach to life. He doesn't waste time when action is needed. When I lived in a much smaller town in another state, I had occasion to confront a bully principal in my son's school. Before I spoke to him, I spoke directly to the Superintendent and told him what i was going to say and do - and then I followed through in no uncertain terms with the principal. Knowing I had already spoken with the Superintendent, he backed off a lot of his ways knowing he was being watched. Must say, it was very satisfying to see the change!

    Chapter 5

As a retired educator, I will say that Mr. Dumbass Principal just lost his license and, I hope, will find "3 hots and a cot" to be his home for a long while! Peter is feeling so many new things: love, respect, support along with the stupidity that exists everywhere, unfortunately. Great writing!

    Chapter 4

I can only say ditto to the above! I love the realism, humor, and genuine love that comes through!

    Chapter 3

I did remember that meltdown, but this one was much deeper and much needed.

    Chapter 3

This was a very powerful chapter! It is true that Pete has matured well beyond his 14 years. I'm so glad he had that cathartic moment with Mitch and Uncle George. Now, it's going to be interesting to see how things work out with Carl.

    Chapter 2

Mitch was very courageous to out himself to Peter without knowing for sure if Peter was gay. Even if nothing more develops between them long-term, at least friendship is welcome! Tom was also courageous in admitting he was wrong.

    Prologue

I am another late to the read. The story grabbed me from the first paragraph! Yes, mom has serious problems and her family probably reinforce her actions. Thank goodness for Uncle George! I am looking forward to the rest of the story!
  21. So reminiscent of Imagine by John Lennon...I love the imagery and the hope that comes through. I do have difficulty picturing this in a metropolis. I can't imagine raising a family surrounded by skyscrapers or row after row of apartment buildings. I like the world presented in your verses!

    Twenty

I love the give and take between Thomas and Keith. It allows both to be themselves and also open to new experiences out of respect for the other. Maria is another story...and it did allow Keith to start standing up for himself.
  23. Thank you for your month of poems! This final group certainly evokes the hope of spring.

    Chapter 5

Silence can certainly mean centering oneself in order to listen rather than "talk". It is most difficult to do in a world that wants to fill every void with noise. Beautiful writing! I loved every one of your offerings!
  25. So many themes and styles of poetry contained in this collection. Each evokes scenes, memories, emotions. Excellent writing!
