    Chapter 39 S2

Which is what I said, but being unconscious isn't necessarily an indicator of the level of trauma.

Oh no, I've run afowl of the IUD, the International Union of Ducks.

    Chapter 39 S2

Paddy Chayefsky wrote some of the funniest lines. (Ironically, he died because he was afraid to go to the hospital because of how savagely he portrayed doctors and hospitals in The Hospital.) No, they wouldn't keep him until he paid. I'm not sure it would be legal.

Well, she already waddles like a duck... "Honest your honor, I thought it was a really big ugly duck."

    Chapter 39 S2

Some authors seem to derive fiendish pleasure from inflicting over the top pain, suffering, and mental hardship on their characters. It's not a trait I've observed with you. At least not yet.

It would be a whopper of an oversight considering the pains they go through to remain hidden.

I think of it could happen, their mentors would have warned them.

I'm fairly sure they have to be conscious to shift. For instance, we haven't witnessed or heard of any of them shifting while asleep.

Well, he'd still need ID to prove he was Devin's father, so it wouldn't help.

    Chapter 39 S2

Did we ever learn if a skinwalker gets knocked out if they maintain their shift? We do know they can go through sleep cycles without changing back to human which would seem to suggest they would maintain form.

    Chapter 39 S2

One thing to keep in mind, over 90% of concussions aren't accompanied by being knocked unconscious, and being knocked out doesn't necessarily mean a more serious injury or longer recovery time. Just a positive thought.
  13. For some reason inveterate seems to always be paired with undesirable habits and behaviors.

    Chapter 39 S2

When I saw accident in the chapter title and knowing they were headed back to school, the first thought was car accident. They avoided one of those, but got hit by the wrong place, wrong time bad luck. Head wounds bleed profusely regardless of severity, so not much concern there. I hope Devin is hard headed. We're about to get in a frustrating period for Mac because the hospital won't be sharing much information with him about Devin. He's not able to make any health care decisions either. And I was only concerned about Preston and Bailey showing up and wondering why Bear wasn't there. Regardless of how this turns out, the dog park will now elicit some bad memories for Mac.
  15. Beyond knowing Rym meant him no harm, Callum misses him. A bond was forged during their journey. The token or badge Rym carries commands a great deal of respect. From what he shared, he's some kind of scout, but certainly no ordinary one.
  16. Callum's treatment, while hardly pleasant, hasn't been brutal. Callum's worst punishment is his imagination.
  17. Does this mean you saved nine?
  18. Altercation is a word I can strongly identify with.
  19. There are still many unknowns here. What is this vast quantity of wood being used for? Fuel, building structures, furniture, and handles for tools seem obvious. Constructing ships seems unlikely due to Callum's father's dismissive comments earlier on the sea.
  20. This is speculation on my part, but we've seen these visions where these lumbermen come in and clear-cut all the trees leaving nothing behind. I shouldn't have to point out this is extraordinarily poor land and forest management. If they followed this same practice on the other side of the mountains, it explains why they are there. They ravaged their own forest either to near or total extinction. Would it be cynical of me to suppose the people in power are heavily vested in aspects of the wood trade?
  21. I still say smart. You have to be able to rationally evaluate the information at hand.
  22. My take on Callum is he is the closest version we're likely to find of a pacifist and conscientious objector in his society.
  23. She's managing it by the expressing it method. It's the pre-Freud method.
  24. The more we learn about Rym and the pactrids, the more there is to admire. They seem to be a more tolerant and civilized society than the humans. The government Callum is living under must be particularly vile to kill envoys. There are a number of things Callum should deduce from what he was shown. The humans are the aggressors here and liars. There is virtually no way for him to expect to both escape and get home on his own. Finally, the pactrids don't have to torture to find out what they need to know. Now, is he smart enough to come to these conclusions?
