  1. There is so much to the Chelsea and Tara dynamic that is yet to be revealed. But keep in mind that when Chelsea was talking with Silas the first time he was still a stranger. A gay stranger he might have been, but that doesn't mean she'd be comepletely open about everything. Everyone has their secrets.
  2. I've never heard of that. That sounds like a story idea on its own... I might just have to use that in the future.

    Chapter 7

Wednesday. Stay tuned. Chapter 8 will be just as dramatic as 7.
  4. I spent years in both scenarios. I've spent time trying to please others by living up to their expectations and I've spent time trying to avoid further emotional hurt by distancing myself. I still do some of the latter, but I've become a lot better at trusting people. I wouldn't be surprised if I subconsciously built Silas the way that he is because of my own experience. This isn't meant to confirm or deny anything, but let's not forget the "bisexual" option. Small town. People tend to look the other way. Or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Oh yes. I've been reading some of those, too. They're awful! I'm so glad that none of that happened to me. Of course I didn't "come out" until I was 23, so my parents couldn't have sent me to one of those places for my sexuality, but I did know about them when growing up and I feared them. I know of at least one person I was friends with growing up who got sent to a place like that, and it screwed him up for life. The Mormon church is a very oppressive organization. It's a wonder anyone survives growing up in it at all.

    Chapter 7

I think you've nailed Silas pretty well. He's very focused on survival, not only for himself but for Adelaide, and he'll always do what it takes. Now, to some extent, that feeling extends toward Chelsea as well. As to everything else... Well, things are about to change and I'm not giving any spoilers. We'll just have to see how right or wrong everyone is.

    Chapter 7

Welcome to the story! I'm glad your enjoying it and I'm looking forward to your further input. Next chapter will post on Wednesday. See you then!

    Chapter 7

You'll learn Adam's age soon enough. He's older than he looks, but he's still young. As Silas is sixteen, there's a four year difference between him and Theo, but you're right that there isn't that much between Silas and Brady. It's a non-issue to me, just not necessarily to them. I was going for the sense of dread, by the way, so I'm glad someone felt that way. Adam is awesome in a lot of ways, actually. He's one of my favorites.

    Chapter 7

"Morality Police" I'll have to remember that term. It might even spawn a new story idea. Silas definitely has some growing up to do, but at least he's on the right track, don't you think? Big changes are in store over the next few chapters. This is only the beginning.

    Chapter 7

I doubt that anyone is pleased with Officer Higgins or her actions. She really does like to abuse her authority, doesn't he? Connections will be drawn soon enough, and I promise that chapter 8 will be every bit as dramatic as chapter 7 was. Stay tuned.

    Chapter 7

Silas walked quickly down the path. Now that he had traveled it for two days he already knew it well enough that he could practically do it blindfolded simply from the way the trail felt under his feet. Even if he couldn’t Adelaide certainly would have been able to, and that would have been more than enough in the event he couldn’t find his way back. Checking the traps in the morning had taken longer than he had expected it to. He had caught a rabbit and a squirrel the night before, and he d
  11. I will say this: You got at least one thing right, but I'm not going to confirm which one it was! But don't worry, tomorrow's chapter is going to put a spin on the story that no one will expect, and I think everyone will be a bit too busy thinking about the new angle to puzzle out which part you got correct. Thanks, Valkyrie! We'll see how it goes. The lyrics for The Navigator already exist, by the way. We'll see them later.
  12. I think so too. It's a good thing that Brady knows what he's doing! There is a time and a place for everything. A friend of mine who has read to the end of The Navigator shared this song with me today, saying that it ran through his head the entire time he was reading it. I happen to agree that it fits Silas pretty well.

I'm ready to leap into your story and beat the shit out of Trevor. Is that possible?

    Chapter 3

Loved the back story on how Robbie and Daniel became friends. I can completely relate to that, as I have a similar friend in my past that comes from that scenario! Good chapter, looking forward to reading the rest.

Flowers to a cat. How wonderful!

    Chapter 6

The lyrics already exist, but I'm afraid you'll have to be patient. I would assume that White-Chocolate Antifreeze is alt rock, judging from the image I have of them in my mind. If you want more, you have two options... wait until Saturday or read some of my other work. Well, really you can do whatever you want, but I appreciate your review, as always.
  17. When is your next chapter coming out? I'm itching to read chapter 6!
  18. It's one of my favorite songs of all time, and that particular video inspires me a lot.

    Chapter 6

That's why I think it's so important to be kind to everyone. Why we need to smile at people and care for them, instead of considering them to be just a uniform, just a number, just a statistic; we need to remember that they're people. Brady exemplifies that thought process, and I think the rest of the band isn't far behind.
  20. I think you've made some excellent points here. It would be hard for me not to snub Jenny after dealing with Officer Higgins. One tense interaction can set the tone for the entire day, and Silas has had his fair share. And he definitely has mother issues. I promised to link to the video that inspired the last scene in Chapter 6, so here it is:

    Chapter 5

I think it all has merit, and I appreciate you sharing your insights with us. When I wrote the scene I wasn't thinking of all of that, I was just trying to put myself in Silas' shoes and react as he would react. I didn't delve into his psychology or anything; I just tried to become him. It's the way writing works for me. The fact that it seems to work blows me away every time, especially when I receive all of this depth from my readers who can analyze the situation from the outside and show the 'why' of his actions. I think all three points are useful to understanding the situation, and that even number one by itself would be enough for me to tell Jenny to go screw herself.

    Chapter 4

Silas Drake is experienced in many ways. He's been through so much in such a short time that when facing a situation that could impact his survival he ramps up to a higher level. It's practically instinctual now. And I'll survive without the likes. I may be addicted but it's the thought that counts, haha!

    Chapter 3

I love the breakdown! Very insightful and I'd say Silas' needs are right on the money. It's funny how I didn't plan any of that, but it just comes out in his character... I love the way you learn things about your own writing from what others see in it.

    Chapter 2

Well, to be honest I know nothing about dogs, haha! As a writer I do the best I can with the knowledge I have to make it work, but that doesn't mean I always get it right, unfortunately. Oh the Mormon church... such a sad place. I wish I knew why they were so adamant about homosexuality being a sin, but they were once an extremely racist institution as well. They didn't allow people with darker skin into their priesthood before the seventies, and only did so after the world practically forced them to socially. I bet it's only a matter of time before the political monstrosity that is the church will decide that they've "had a revelation from god" that homosexuality is no longer a sin. After all, they have to keep making money.
  25. Cynus

    Chapter 1

I like to think that Jenny reacted that way from both the surname and the similarity in appearance, but that she didn't want to jump to conclusions before Ian saw Drake for himself.
