    Chapter 4 - A Bridge

I loved this chapter on so many levels. Of course you managed to make me laugh and smile more than usual, but I also loved the deeper side. I like seeing more insights into how the three teens think. Can't wait for more.

    Chapter 2

I like to think that it's more of a reaction to being isolated for nearly two years. The reason why he ran from Ian is the same reason why he ran from the Band. Silas is scared to get caught up in any sort of relationship because he's afraid of getting hurt again. Or at least that's what I saw in it when I wrote it. I suppose it's entirely possible that I failed to bring those emotions to life. Still, there is more on this later so I can't spoil everything. I'll just have to hope that you still want to know more.

    Chapter 3 - Canoe

Bravo, masterfully done. You've surprisingly managed to get me to smile and laugh at work. That never happens!
  5. Too bad he's not a ghost. I love ghostly love stories. Job well done, Zach. Hilarious and engrossing. I think your writing improved in this chapter as well, so you're definitely headed in the right direction. Less rough spots and better flow. Looking forward to more.
  6. I'm intrigued to see what pistachios have to do with ruling the world. Is it a metaphor, or is it a literal plan? All joking aside, I loved it. It was a very fun read, and though the editing would certainly clean up the rough spots, I think I speak for everyone when I say that you have obvious storytelling talent and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. Good job, Zach!

    Chapter 1

Thanks, Zach. This story was actually originally dedicated to a friend of mine who moved away when I was thirteen. I was misinformed years later that he had committed suicide, and it was one of the worst days of my life. I wrote this story to commemorate the moment we met, which was not long after seeing him smile at the end of the school year. I always loved his smile. Less than a week after I posted the story I learned that my friend was still alive and I had been told incorrectly. This story will remain one of my favorites forever because of the peace of mind it ended up giving me.

Thanks! I loved writing Silas. He's one of my favorite characters I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know.

    Chapter 2

Welcome to my life. Although the experiences within the story that Silas and Ian go through are NOT drawn from my own life, I grew up Mormon and much of their home life growing up is based upon my own experiences, or the experiences of other families I've known. Unfortunately what happened with Silas and Ian is much too common in Mormon households.

    Chapter 2

Ian Drake. Silas hadn’t seen his brother in almost eight years, not since Ian had been evicted from their home for refusing to become a missionary for the church. It was the way many Mormon families worked, though not all were as strict as theirs had been. Ian had been Silas’ best friend up until Silas turned eight and suddenly Ian was gone without even leaving a note. At first Silas hadn’t been told the truth. His parents had told the rest of the kids that Ian had decided to leave, but his

    Chapter 1

I like how you picked up on Addy's reaction, though I'll neither confirm nor deny the conclusion you've drawn from it. I'll have to let the chapters speak for themselves. Thanks for the review!

    Chapter 1

Thank you. I strive for that in all of my beginnings, though I can't say I always hit the mark. I'm glad I did this time, at least for you. Thanks for reading.

    Chapter 1

I love the line, thanks for sharing it. I think you'll find that everything happens for a reason in Silas' world. Thank you for the review, and I look forward to what you think of the later chapters.

Thanks! I'm glad you read it, and thanks for letting me know!

    Chapter 1

The next chapter should answer a lot for you, Lisa, so I'm glad you're hooked. Thanks for reading!
  17. The Drawbacks of Being A Monster? I'm quite fond of that one as well. It was the first story that I've ever shared with people outside of my inner circle, and also the first full story I ever finished (as opposed to Rumors of War which is the first novel I ever finished). I can understand a lack of time, however. I mean, we're surrounded by a treasure trove of amazing authors in this community, and there never seems to be enough time to read all the ones you want to!
  18. Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry, you won't have to wait too long for chapters. The story is completely finished but I'm keeping my posting schedule in line with others sites that are also hosting Navigator in order to be fair to them. Expect updates every Wednesday and Saturday.
  19. I suppose I find the noise comforting in a way, and it makes me feel like I can work without fear of something sneaking up on me. I'm naturally paranoid (And a bit neurotic) and the noise helps drown out the paranoia.
  20. Wow! I am stunned by that review. I've never been told that I brought someone out of their comfort zone and they liked it. i hope that Navigator will continue to deliver. Its my favorite thing I've written so far, and it's been a long but enjoyable journey getting from Rumors of War to Navigator. Thanks, J. HunterDunn.

    Chapter 1

The cool spring air was whistling through the small crack at the top of the window. It was annoying, but nothing he couldn’t put up with in order to get rid of the stuffiness inside the van. Drake had been with the band for only three weeks, but he was starting to grow tired of their company, and he was sure they were feeling the same way. It wasn't because he disliked them, but it was a fact that the old, blue van was too small for four people with all of their instruments, and he made the tota

    The Navigator

Silas Drake never stays in one place for very long. He has nowhere to call home and no family, at least not that he has any desire to see again. He's a homeless gay teen and just trying to survive in a small Colorado town with not much beyond his name; only his survival skills from years of scouting, his dog, Adelaide, and the small bit of supplies to get him through each day. His life is in for a change when the last person he expected to see is standing in front of him.
  23. I found this topic fascinating and incredibly useful. Repetition is common problem of mine that I do all the time, over and over again, like I'm beating a dead horse until it hears all the words I choose to say as often as I need to, until I'm understood and then I say it one more time for good measure.
  24. I was remembering some of the weird things I used to believe as a kid, and I ended up laughing in public. For example, I remember that I used to believe that movies were always real, and that the camera crews happened to be there to catch the events as they happened. The specific movie where I finally started to question that logic was "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen. At first I thought it was awesome that the German soldiers had allowed the cameras in to record the prisoners, and that the prisoners had trusted them and let them film their escape plans. I kept believing that this was true until my mother told me the year that Steve McQueen died and I did the math and realized how old he must have been if he had also been in the war in Germany(My grandpa was a war buff so I learned the dates of World War II at an early age). When I told my mother that he must have been really old she told me that he had actually died pretty young and then gave me his age. That's when I learned that Steve McQueen was never in a prisoner of war camp. The cameras had fooled me. Sadly, that also meant that some of the magic died for me(Like when I thought The Princess Bride had actually happened and they had recorded the events as they unfolded) but I guess it's better to live in reality, right? What things did you believe in your childhood that you now realize are completely ridiculous?
  25. The first boy I ever had a crush on a boy I grew up with, a boy a few years older than me that I would "wrestle" with. The first boy I ever truly loved was when I was eleven and he was ten. He was the quiet kid in class and was bullied a lot, and I made an effort to befriend him, but he transferred to a different school three weeks after I found out he existed. I found him again in middle school when I was thirteen and he was twelve. He was being bullied by a group of kids and I jumped on the biggest guy's back and pulled him off of my friend. As fate would have it he was already in the process of another transfer and I never saw him again. I do know that he's alive but that's about it, though I did write a Story that somewhat honors him, "Summer Smiles". My first boyfriend was when I was fifteen. We were together for a year, but . . . Let's just say we would still be together if fate hadn't decided to intervene. I still love him, and I'll never forget him.
