  1. Really, we are a great community, but not so big as it seems. 100'000 posts in 426 days, or 235 posts a day, its a lot, but look who participate : 18 members with more than 1'000 posts (you can imagine who !) 22 members between 1'000 and 500, 30 members between 500 and 250, 58 members between 100 and 250 122 members between 30 and 100 2'081 members between 1 and 30 2'490 members with 0 post. The posting community is less than 2/1000 of all members and the 18 top postalcoholics (with more than 1'000 posts) are responsible for the 36,2 % of all posts . It would be interesting to introduce an effectiveness-factor to appreciate each post, giving more "weight" to those which really mean something and bring a plus to the community. IMO, I could imagine that, with this calculation, the "posting" participation would be less than 0,001 of all members .
  2. Hey Jack, the same for me I was just disturbed by your age ( 2 years ) My brain works slow now (soon 80 !!) and I needed time to understand your reasons . just a question : what kind of fine wine did you drink at your birthday party ? take care and be happy, old bob
  3. As you see, I'm living in a town of 300'000 inhabitants on flatland, and not in the mountains . My apartment is too small to have a fireplace but has fuel central heating. At Christmas's eve, the problem for my grand and great-grandchildren was the lack of a place to put their shoes in . BTW, we are a mix, we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah .
  4. We can joke about a lot of subjects. Why not cancer ? Humor is sometimes the best weapon against death and the fear of it. Those of us who had to serve during cold war, Viet and Desert Storm had the opportunity to appreciate it. As we say in German : "Galgenhumor" (gallows humor) is often the best way to fight against the lack of courage . BTW, driving a car is much more dangerous than prostate cancer .
  5. the reason I voted No is that I dont have any fireplace
  6. Hey Jack, Funny that you brought this matter . I'm the living example to support your suggestion ! Since I was 52, I checked yearly my PSA (prostate specific antigen). In 1996, an early prostate cancer was diagnosed and cured through surgery. I went on with the yearly checking. In November 2005, cancer was back, and was cured again trough irradiation therapy. Now 2 years later, thanks to regular check ups, I'm still alive, in good health and able to do everything I want, like I was 20 years ago, just slower . If you want to know more about my experiences with prostate cancer, just PM ! Life is fun when you can control it . Take care and live happy, old Bob
  7. peace on earth and hope for all the people who suffer and fight
  8. I want peace on earth and hope for all the people who suffer and fight I'm too old to want a gift I have people around me who loves me and whom I love. That far enough ! Merry Christmas to everybody
  9. It can be fun! I remember a party (it was a "bare butt party"), we were really "Getting Friendly With Friends"..... So it really depends on the people/time/circumstances. But it is worthwhile . Now I'm too old for that .
  10. If I remember well, this question was already the matter of a topic last year ! IMO, automatic cars are too "lazy" and they don't give you the pleasure of driving and controlling a car with manual transmission. During 60 years, I drove about 15 different cars, with manual, automatic and semi-automatic transmissions, but my best memories come from my first Beettle in 1956 ! And today I'm still driving an 15 years old VW Golf (182'000 km) with the same pleasure
  11. Hey Kevin, Its just what you have to tell him, in a friendly way. But if you are not sure, let it go.You can tell him later ! It seems to me that your mood changes very quickly from one day to another. Be careful about yourself. There are so many moments in a day where you can be happy! Enjoy it . Its a pity not to be aware that life is worth to be lived . old bob
  12. OK OK. I was just teasing you ! We are still friends, aren't we ? BTW this is my 601th post
  13. Yes... remember, in your post from 7th December in "Would you knowingly have sex with someone who was HIV". You were even f**king
  14. 78 years to live is a long time . I was happy to make a huge lot of experiences. Its a private matter I don't want to share here. But I answered yes. It was fun .
  15. hey James, Thanks for your very clever description of what happened in the States (I made already a comment to one of your post). We have both something in common, we share the same history as "activists". Fortunately, the fight in France and Switzerland was not (as in the States) mixed with political problems. I was 51 in 1980. I had a lot a contacts in med circles (my engineering company was building an hospital and I managed a clinic). So I participated from 1982 in the first researches about retrovirus and followed the fight between French (Montagnier) and American (Gallo) scientists about the discovery of HIV. We still have here in Lausanne a very strong group of researchers and med, well known in Europe. My part in the fight was to help people with HIV to be accepted as "normal", with all their civil rights as employers, in social life, with health insurances and so on. As I said, my daughter got HIV in Spain from blood transfusion in 1984, fought successfully (about 18 pills a day !) till 2003 (after19 years), got tired and ceased her fight. She had enough and let it go. As I told already in one of my blogs, she was a reason (among others) for me to participate actively in the fight against this plague.
  16. Hey Carl, don't be sad To be old (very old, soon 79 !) has also advantages ! You take everything much easier, wisdom is a fortune to enjoy. I know, I can anymore run and swim so hardly and quickly as I could and sex is more tenderness as lust. But the best is when youngsters stand up and give you their seat in buses and trains (as they do in my country) think of it Old bob
  17. Happy Birthday Benji! Its never too late to wish you all what you wish you yourself GA is a nice place with all the fine guys I'm happy to have the possibility to talk with. take care of yourself, don't be too often angry... (you seem to have that tendency , see your last posts)
  18. . Same for me ! Yes it does, but safe sex in this case follows a lot of rules, not only condoms. As I said before, from my experiences with members of my family, it is possible to have a happy sex life with somebody you love when you are HIV positive.
  19. Hey James, Your description of the plague in your blog is really adequate . I could write the same as it appeared in Europe, but it is a long story, in which I'm 100 % involved. in 1984, I was 55 years old, with a gay son and an infected daughter, and I helped to inform better about how to live with ill people. Fortunately the epidemic is now almost stopped here among heteros, but a lot of young gay people don't take it seriously enough and the percentage of gays ills is increasing . We should talk more about it, especially about "protected" sex . BTW, the best description of HIV in the States I red was in some DK stories.
  20. Hey everybody, My daughter ! She got HIV in Spain from blood transfusion in 1984, fought successfully (about 18 pills a day !) till 2003 (19 years), got tired and ceased her fight. She had enough and let it go. She dyed peacefully with all us around her in a wonderful place founded specially to accompany incurable people. She was 45 years old. Today she is still with us and I hope to meet her again when it is time for me. As I told already in one of my blogs, she was a reason (among others) for me to participate actively in the fight against this plague. Life is not always happy but it is life! And please, don't forget to be covered any time . The risk is still there and its easy to be checked. Old Bob
  21. Hey everybody, In our daily life, we have moments of happiness and of sadness. The blogs are full of such moments and the possibilities to share them with friends are some of the reasons we participate in GA. How often I thought in such moments
  22. Hey Kevin, have good times, take care of yourself, enjoy your holidays . merry Christmas and happy new Year. old bob
  23. Poor boy . I can imagine what you are feeling. Kevin forgot the main characteristic of bi-guys, that they can date either gender. It just depends the person you have a crush on ! Its very simple, when its a guy, I'm gay with him, when its a girl, I'm straight with her. I just have to take care not to be both at the same time and at the same place . I could talk a lot from my own experiences, but who want to know .... As Graeme said : Thats also my opinion.

    Gaydar?

You came to the right conclusion. Since my first experiences as gay (I was 14) I tried to adjust my gaydar and check people around me during 64 years...with a success rate of about 65 %. So I could say it works enough to connect people and confirm it or not through some indirect questions. The only way to know if yours works is to try...The more experienced you are, the better it will work. Good luck ! Old Bob
  25. Yes I would, but if I remember well, the oldest chat room was canceled by the site owner, because of some legal abuse (??) and the last chat room was canceled for economic reasons because nobody used it. BTW, because of the time gap between US and Europa, I stand up at 3 am local time so I could participate. It was fun
