Fireworks in the future? Well, Independence Day is coming up in Eagle Lake. Hope you enjoyed Walter’s fish story. I have the feeling Rick and he have swapped a few. Rita has irked Walter, who has no way to speculate or spin what she has up her sleeve. He’s left to tell tall tales until he (and everyone else in town) knows what’s up.

Rita seems to want Rick for more than his plumbing skills. But if she’s romantically inclined, she’s going to find Rick to be a frustrating man to pursue, even as he tries to remain civil and courteous. The impression created for everyone else in town is that Rick is in the hunt, and they can’t wait for someone to catch the other. Call it small town entertainment. Thanks for reading the chapter. Rita has big plans, but she’s not telling Rick about them. In fact, she’s keeping things very closely held, apparently. That’s hard to do in a small town. Perhaps she has learned the hard way about getting key people onside first. Rick’s experience of the bikers certainly tugs on his heart and ignites the tinder of yearning. Rick said nothing because Rita hasn’t given him any firm details, just grand visions. He’s annoyed because Walter is pumping him for information which he is assumed to have, but doesn’t possess. The man Walter should be pressing is the School Board president. Rick was expecting Jared to be snarky or snide after the motorcycle roared off. That the boy was neither must make Rick pause and reconsider. Things may smolder awhile, but was a definite spark. Thank you, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

What a way to find out about Peter; Tristan broke things off right away, but I wonder how he managed to hold things together until calling Peter at the holidays. I’d have wanted to rage and rant at the man far sooner. This is a great chapter. You’ve engaged my attention, and I need to know more.

I enjoyed reading your comments. Thank you so very much for them. Rick checks his X-Pants messages, perhaps just to feel connected to people like himself. SexyHunk may not be someone who understands, and it could be that Rick might not understand or want to be friends with that shadowy figure, either. Even though he seems a bit creepy, the guy is the surest thing since Marshall. I’m glad too of your understanding of Rick’s small town frustrations and constrictions. I’m grateful you are reading the story. Many thanks. Oh, and the image of Willy, Rita and Heinrich Senior having a three way made me laugh!

I’m delighted to read your comments this morning. It’s really encouraging to know you are enjoying it. Heinrich Senior never won any prizes fir parenting, that’s for certain. He built a great business and knows his stuff, but human relations may not be his strongest suit. Sorting out Rita could be its own story (kind of sounds like a movie title, doesn’t it?), but it’s Rick who interests us now. Please accept my thanks for reading this story and for your observations.

Rita might be good at snake oil sales, or perhaps cold fusion. Perhaps she needs her own late night TV infomercial. Mr. Schwartz saddens me too. Things didn’t pan out as he had planned, and now his dream home is too big for him. His isolation accentuates his growing forgetfulness. Gus must be aware of fans who dig for pics and info about him. I expect his agents are even more aware of it, enough to micromanage his online presence. Rick is surely not alone in his search for more. Thanks for your help and comments!

You’re most welcome. Rick is one of those men who has a long, long fuse. It can burn low and smolder for so much time, an unwary person might forget to run. He is so used to being a doormat that he only notices the biggest boots. He resists passively, rarely acting out much. Thanks very much for reading and commenting.

Rita is definitely up to something. Your thought that she needs Rick for credibility seems to ring true to her comments when she took him out to dinner at the Meadowview. She may think the good old boys of Eagle Lake are easy marks. I don't blame you for your unease with Rick. There must be many times when he feels the same way about himself. That can't be good. You raise lots of interesting discussion points - many of which I really shouldn't answer. You mention Rita, though. She must feel that she will have the money soon, so Rick can afford to be patient. At least, that's the blandishment I would expect her to make. Rick has enough other work to stay more than afloat, but Rita does seem to be abusing her friendship with him. So you're getting a vibe from SexyHunk? I wonder if Rick feels the same way. I hope you're enjoying the story, and I look forward to knowing what you think later on. Many thanks for your comments!

Next time I head over to the Home Depot, I will be sure to ask the bright young associate to show me where the TF is found. Perhaps one must have a six-pack to buy it. Was it a Ritaquake or a Ritarecho? I won't ask why her appearance necessitates stockpiling toilet paper...

Rick seems to have many things to keep his mind busy when he’s not fixing faucets or chasing chickens. Your question is apt. He may not know how to be truly happy, though he knows where to seek refuge from his inner discontent. They say familiarity breeds contempt. I don’t think anyone in Eagle Lake look at Rick that way, but perhaps everyone sees him so much as part of the fabric of the community that he’s seen through the lenses of expectation. I’m grateful you continue to read this story, and for your observations.

I'm glad you're enjoying the development of this small town story. You bring up so many unknowns, and I'm happy you find them intriguing. Rita is certainly elated by the Cedarcrest sale. Rick's question about his bill is certainly reasonable under the circumstances. She has kept all the details of her project very close; all Rick knows is that she considers it to be a big deal. You're right that she seems to want to keep him onside, however. Heinrich Senior is becoming increasingly interested. I enjoyed reading your perceptive comments.
