It's a hard thing for many to hear, that your baby needs more. That you need to learn about commas. (Me too, i have a cheat sheet and Grammarly which are helpful) That that thing that happens in chapter 12 needs to be foreshadowed much earlier in the story to make it believable. (this one.. this one is missing so often in a lot of writing. There is so much lazy writing in books and scripts, it's beyond sad. It makes me want to throw something at the TV set often.) I am all for suspension of disbelief but most of this crap they pour out is an insult to our intelligence. Stop lazy writing. Do your work! Make it right. Editors can see what we often cannot. After 6 weeks or six months we may be able to. But editors often do and can point those things out for us. Your editor and you are a team. Editors who help us amateur writers are generous. I cannot thank them enough. It sounds like you enjoyed the experience. I'm happy for you.

Prompts are wonderful things. I love your take on this one, old houses have much to say. The dog is a surprise but terriers are hunters so she was good choice. Nice job.

Prompt 892: Words of Prey

Words of Prey Thursday (I no longer know the year or month) The world is turned upside down. A sunny day is a rare thing. The world is a montage of storms and wind and thunder and lightning. What had been summer now brings snow and the winter, rare sun and more rain. Humans are now a food group. We are hunted by larger beasts, for the large cats have regressed somehow to their sabre-tooth like ancestors. Don’t ask me for the science because I am no scientist. I am prey.

you may wish to slap me but i am going to post a prompt piece with no editing other than my own. i think you'll understand why when you read it ... it's better that it's left as it is. it's for the last prompts Comicfan left ... and it needs to be as it is. i learned about leaving things from my previous editor and after reading Stephen King's book On Writing and doing the exercise in there. It was an experience i've not forgotten. King puts his manuscripts away for 6 months or more before the first edits start. That was amazing to me. So was the fact that he writes every single day .. every day. And of course reads everything. I'm not a professional author, never will be. But i try to do the best i can, with what i have. Thanks molly ... you're a treasure.

They don't know there's two of us. They offer a 'solo' box and a family box. No way we'd get thru the family box in a week, so i ordered the solo box. It said it was for one or two. We ate all we got last week. Finished the last of it on Wednesday. We'd added a cauliflower to what they sent us and one Vidalia onion. Looking at this week's ... one person would have a lot of veg. Corn; one or two servings depending how you choose to eat it, at least 3 nights of broccoli, plus broccoli slaw from the stalks. Two huge amounts of kale, maybe add some to your broccoli slaw, plus the fruit. As we're out of them, we'll buy some carrots so i can make muffins. Gonna buy green onions to make eggies for Michael and that's about it i think for buying extra fruit and veg this week.

This is something to remember if you're a writer. Writing is work. Hours and hours of it and more of research. Then you put it on the shelf for six weeks or months. Then you go back and you read it with fresh eyes. It is work and if all of or parts of it are crap you cut out that crap and fix it, or throw it away and begin again. After a time, most of it won't be crap. You'll be able to read it and repair and add to it when necessary. Writing is hard, lonely work. Patience and time are your friend. After your story has sat on the shelf for some time the hope is, when you do the read through that you say to yourself; this is good, did i really write it?

I have so many responses to Wayne's prompts. I think one of the first was 447 The Gift, which was the one that started the Faris and James stories and the other #500 What took you so long? which inspired me write Coward, Anal and Time . Which is a personal favourite of mine. I have a bunch of unfinished ones also. I will continue to use them, because they are there and they are inspiring when i am not inspired. Wayne and his wonderful weekly prompts were missed in the past when he was not able to be here and I will continue to look for them on Fridays for the foreseeable future. Thank you, Wayne. You've left a wonderful legacy for us; a well of ideas we can all draw from.

Why have an editor if you don't want to put out your best work? Maybe i'm lucky in that i think of my writing as work, not my baby, not my beloved creation. i don't feel that until it's well and truly finished. It is edited and polished and that's really only possible with an extra set of eyes and another opinion.

My bonuses are based on my work, my bonus influences my boss's bonus etc.. up the line. So i think of coaching like working with an editor. It behooves me to learn and try to find better ways to do things and my boss benefits from helping me. It's win win. That's how i look at it and i make about a month and a half extra pay a year in bonuses. Other people fight it and don't want to learn and they pay for it. hehe, listen to your editor ...

VEGGIE DAY!!!! i love all the stuff we got.. Kale (huge bunch) Broccoli (2lbs!!) 2 large orange peppers, 5 potatoes, 2 cobs of unshucked corn, 5 each of nectarines and peaches and 20 small green plums. Had a good day. Coaching went well, I'm about 160% of my monthly goals. Not too many idiots. Systems are working well and work is a pleasure when i can actually do it. Today is my Friday and i am off for a week. I'm ready for it.

we have had this talk before .. we have not improved here. i think that many us either just don't care that much and really just don't care that much. i did clean up the bedroom a while ago..it's still pretty clean, Michael vacuumed the place a week ago? We'll get around to doing more. Remember, what was written in The Lancet, we can be too clean ... it's better that there's some dust and stuff we are actually healthier that way ~looks around~ Okay, they may not have meant this dusty....

The people in Barrie, ON are not so okay. Tornadoes are not that rare up here but mainly happen north of Toronto, where it's more open. Lots of damage to trees, homes/ property, minor injuries from what i read. From the pictures i've seen, it's a real mess.

Never apologize for your work, your creation. Not all stories are light and breezy, full of the joys of spring. Many are dark and that's okay. If you've not been writing long, you will only improve with practice. GA is a fairly safe place to do that. Just do it within the rules. All the best. Write bravely.
