  1. According to NASA's research, there are 300 million Earth-like planets within this single galaxy which could potentially harbor life. Statistically speaking, it's impossible for us to be alone in outer space. As to why we haven't found anyone yet, we've only been searching for a few decades; not even the closest Earth-like planet could receive a radio transmission in such a short time. Assuming they had technology capable of receiving a transmission, and assuming they were able to decipher our language into something translatable, these hypothetical lifeforms might choose to ignore it. "If you’re a hunter in a dark jungle filled with other hunters, the last thing you want to do is shout, ‘Here I am!’" This is a paraphrasing of the Fermi Paradox. Broadcasting a signal into outer space could potentially lead to contact with an as-of-yet unknown ally...but it could also bring other, more predatory species down on our heads. Personally? I'd rather err on the side of caution and tell those scientists: "Hey! Pipe down, will you?!"
  2. Is that meant to reassure us?
  3. They spend way too many episodes monologuing at each other before they finally get to fighting... Nicky!! Hey, Froggy! Where have you been?
  4. I'd recommend warming the honey and simmering it with the red pepper flakes first. Just for a few minutes, and not with the heat too high; you don't want the flakes to burn, after all. Heating it releases the volatile oils in the pepper flakes; otherwise, it might lack depth. https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/hot-honey-recipe/#tasty-recipes-80866-jump-target
  5. He's been with us since...June 2024, I think? Adoptions aren't considered "final" until the kid has been living with their guardians for at least six months. So, I was legally precluded from saying anything until December. But, with all the chaos around the holidays, I suppose it slipped my mind. As a result, everyone found out after New Year's Day. 😂 😅
  6. My family had pretzel-wrapped bratwurst for dinner, with beer-cheese dipping sauce, and apple-fennel slaw.
  7. Colton's tenth birthday will be next Thursday. 🥹
  8. @dughlas Hey, Dugh. Happy Birthday to Mum.
  9. I enjoyed this book quite a bit.
  10. Yes, "Finally", Jaren and Ailin get to kiss. Not a playful peck on the cheek, or a soothing smooch on the forehead, but a true kiss. There's no fanfare. No dramatic confession; Jaren and Ailin are simply admitting their truth. I'm here. I've waited. This is how I see you. I like Tavi, too. They have their own story to tell, later in the saga.
  11. This time, they're after the sourdough AND the Pumpernickel.
  12. Not quite a pie---there's no crust on the bottom. But, it's baked in an oven with oats, almonds, sugar and butter.
  13. Well! Almost immediately after I fired off the new chapter, I added another one, which I had already loaded into the chamber. Seems it got approved in record time. So, I now have TWO new chapters available!
  14. Almost Vena — Duskgold, edge of twilight It had been a long day—flour-streaked and sun-drowsy, the kind of day that left everything slower, softer. The kitchen was clean, the last of the bread cooling on its cloth-lined rack. Ailin stood by the open window, elbows on the sill, watching the lamplighters drift down the street like fireflies. Behind him, Jaren leaned against the counter, arms crossed, eyes not on the street, but on Ailin. The golden-pink light caught the curve of his
  15. No, Ailin and Jaren were their birth names, given to them before they swore vows to the Temple of the Whispering Reeds. Ailin and Jaren know the Temple's calligraphy, but are less familiar with the common script used by lay persons. The notes that Ailin held in his hand aren't meant for public use; they're more like flashcards. For memorizing the translations from Temple writing to the common tongue.
  16. A new chapter has been posted.
  17. And strengthen their ties to the community. They're not just "those boys from Henla's bakery" anymore.
  18. Lanterns in the Wind Auryn —Duskgold By the third week after the Festival of the Twin Stars, Ailin and Jaren had grown familiar with the rhythm of life in the outer wards of Yalda. It was a world measured not in chimes and meditations but in the scent of roasting squash, the gossip of neighbors, and the slap of laundry on river stones. And laughter. So much laughter—often because of Jaren. “Stop, you’ll scare the moon away,” Cedric groaned one evening, pressing a pillow over his
  19. Like the little boy who pulls on a girl's hair to get her to notice him.
