A lot of what I post to this collection now has its genesis in a weekly prompt challenge where the word limit is 750. Yes, I like both these characters, Sam especially. So maybe I'll come back to them in the future and do either one of my not-so-short stories or something longer. I'm pleased it got your vote, Gary.

Indeed. One of these days, when I'm out of writing , I may come back to these characters. They both attract me; Sam's journey could be interesting, whatever it turns out to be.

One mid-winter evening, Drew sat on the edge of his bed, applying the finishing touches to his make-up. Icarus soared skywards, seeking ambrosia. Freedom. Nemesis inevitably followed such hubris. He plummeted. The floor tasted like wax, burnt feathers, broken dreams. He wept. A faraway voice soothed. “Don’t worry – it’s only a trip.”

Your comments about jogging made me smile. My attitude would be pretty much like yours. -
On age describes me just as much as it does you, dear friend. The clicks, creaks, and permanent creases tell me I exist still. On inspiration applies to any creative art or thought and it is so true. Me, I like the idea of a gossamer thread stretching down the ages, connecting us with our forbears.

I'm glad that Facing morning is in the middle of these three. It means the stab of 'I hate him' has time to fade a little by the time I finish reading. Nature so often gives hope and solace, and I know you find it so. As for Dirty laundry, I think you describe all our lives as we get older. -

Good question... I wrote this nearly a year ago, so the honest answer is I can't remember. I scrabbled around trying to find something, anything that fitted the two prompts.

Yeah... I regularly write flash fiction for a site (YeahWrite) where the word limit is 750. The story has to be stripped down while still being engaging and giving the reader the sense of the world described. Sometimes it works - like this one; other times, my idea won't fit the limit, no matter how many words I take out.
