    Observations

If you remember from the previous chapter, he dropped it while outside and had no back-up. Stuart is necessary grit in the story, I think, to give some dramatic tension. I can say, without spoilers, that our heroes will prevail in the end.

    Questions

He's only like the considerable number of people who just need some guidance and advice to set them right. Andy is impulsive and keen to get involved.

    Rapprochement

And thank you for your comments. The many, varied responses to this story have been moving, instructive, and in some cases, eye-opening. Yours are included.

    Tough Love

Thank you! I'm not one for overwrought emotions or purple writing ...

    Expectations

Andy does not start out well at all. How he interacts with Eric is one of the main themes of the story. If you continue with it, Andy's character develops alongside that of Eric. Thanks for commenting.

    Given a Chance

@Jaro_423 Thank you for your comment and for telling us something about yourself. Loneliness and poverty can drain people of their soul and purpose for living. This is fiction so we can hope for improvement and possibly fulfilment for Eric. I wish the same for you.

Hmm ... They already did in a limited fashion in the early chapters of the first book. Tony? Or am I missing something here?

Again ... Err? I heartily detest any form of professional fighting. So not in this story.
  9. The prompt forum is up to date again. Thanks to @comicfan for producing a new slant on a first line prompt.
  10. I asked @comicfan if he would consider doing some first line prompts which weren't speech. I had several weeks of writing to none-speech first liners for my blog and found them intriguing. Yes, the voice is slightly odd. If I were to use it, I might have to change that.

    Observations

Err ... 😨 Possibly ... Who'd be the one to get out unscathed, or even alive? I'm pleased you like my 'villains' - as you say, the story would be too bland without some grit in the mix.
  12. The following Sunday morning, Stuart Fletcher dug deep into his bowl of porridge and mixed berries. The resulting spoonful would've needed him to dislocate his jaw before it found its way into his mouth. Irritably, he shook off enough of the heavy load so he could eat what was left. Fuck, porridge revolted him. Without the fruit, it would be like eating sludge. Several blogs recommended it as a good pre-workout breakfast, so he persevered. Perhaps it had something to do with his cooking? He used
  13. Like @Sweetlion, I'd recommend prompts. Have a browse through the prompt forum and see what snags, what starts up thoughts. If you've been so long away from writing, just scribbling something short, and repeating a few times, may be the way to get your head back in the right place.

@Howzat Thank you. You are very kind. It's difficult to see how two utterly different views of the world might intersect ...

Yes, because it's such an essential and integral part of our lives, we forget just how alien it is to those who've never experienced it before. Without Andy, Eric would never have taken this step, I think.

There's little in the way of motorways in Herefordshire. Both it and Shropshire (the other half of the border with Wales) are very rural. I wouldn't be surprised if it took 3 hours from some parts to get to Cardiff. Depending on where you are in the county, Birmingham would be easier to get to.

Ish ... London's further away, but Cardiff is hardly next door.

What does Eric know of London and the folk who are mad enough to live there? A later chapter makes it clear how little he's travelled, even close to home. Which, in my head, is Herefordshire by the way. West, forming part of the border with Wales.

Yes, I can't see Eric going for flights of fancy. Thanks for changing your comment.

@Carlos Hazday It's more another slant on a thread you had in your story topic. A character reads GA's stories; realises he and his life have been spied upon (in @dughlas's word, 'voyeur') so I reckoned that there should be a topic (on the alternate GA) discussing privacy. So. not Eric meeting CJ et al. I think even you might have trouble setting that up.

And in this alternate universe, @Carlos Hazday's characters and Eric will contribute to a topic on privacy issues.

@droughtquake What seems patently obvious to longtime computer users like us, doesn't to those who have never previously had any online experience.

It does. A lot of the first book was spent waiting for things to happen. Now progress is being made.
