  1. Yep, a very formal young Theodore
  2. Thank you You're flattering me. Jack and Vince definitely need to keep their eyes peeled...
  3. There's a whole thing regarding that Embercasting flint. Theodore might remember some things, Jack might see others... but in the end, it is all about the truth.
  4. Truer words have never been spoken!
  5. They will each play their roles...
  6. Together with the characters, readers will find a way... Starting from the valid point that everything happens for a reason!
  7. With me, you can never be sure...
  8. Chapter Thirty-Three – The Light of a World It was as odd as it could get to eat using nothing but his mouth, but it was what it was. Jack did his best to eat politely, but his muzzle, fangs and tongue had minds of their own, so the moment food was placed before him – served on a wide plate and at the table – he began chewing loudly and making sounds of satisfaction at the taste of the tender meat hitting his palate. Tharion observed him with kind amusement while he drank from a large golde

No problem, I usually peruse the comments left by readers most carefully right after I publish a new chapter. Thank you!

No problem! I'm not a Native English speaker either! Imagine my surprise when I discovered that 'brunet' in English is not used for someone with dark/black hair...

I think you might need to, seriously! I'm having character sheets for this story, because the cast is absolutely crazy in terms of size and number of characters. But the story simply demands it. And you're far from having met everyone!

Ah, it was you who mentioned that about the plant... As I said earlier, even where I grew up, there were plenty of bushes with inedible little fruits that can lead to poisoning, so our parents hammered into us not to put our hands on it. So, it's a bit like - well, it's dangerous, but everyone knows not to touch it kind of thing.

Because of Ali, now everyone is thinking of Bastien's rosebud, lol! Well, he made Lawrence think of the same thing, so...

I read about daphne mezereum, too... since it was relevant as research for this story of mine. While it may seem like a strange thing to have around, as kids - growing up in Eastern Europe - we were often warned not to eat small red fruits of various bushes growing everywhere because they're poisonous. That was what I was thinking about when I included this. Ali, yes, he's not a fan of Anton. And Anton did earn his reputation by being someone who acts in his own interests, regardless of what that means for others. More on him as the story moves...

And Herr Becker thought he was punishing Lawrence... yep, that's one perfect room for a little tryst.

Lawrence has no interest in labeling himself a sycophant... and he's actually playing his hand quite well regarding Bastien. Oh, you're asking the right questions about Bastien... He'll show a few interesting facets of his personality, and as Lawrence gets to know him, so will the readers. Thank you for all your comments! Yes, please do take notes on the poison

About the title, the next chapter will shed a different light on the sense of the word...

At Veridien? They receive only Classical education, so to speak! So people knowing Ancient Greek abound... Lawrence is ready - he's using shorthand and a key only he and his uncle can understand.

Provocative label, indeed! It will be explained at one point. Like a true investigator, Lawrence will observe everyone while giving away as little as possible about himself. He's the kind of student who comes with his homework prepared, so these posh kids won't be able to intimidate him easily.
  22. Ali is quite the character He, too, will reveal a lot about himself that doesn't fit a mold. I am one for digging deep beyond the surface, and while the cast will appear as the usual actors in a story like this, they will evolve in such a way that, hopefully, will make them appear to the reader as realistic people, and not simply characters. Lawrence is hitting the ground running, but he's smart and adaptable. So whatever the academy throws at him, be it people or situations, he will always aim at using them.
  23. Bastien will reveal that he wears masks, while Lawrence keeps observing him. His motivations... will be complex and not always easy to understand (by Lawrence, at least). Anton is the type of antagonist I enjoy writing, because he's exhibit a few layers himself. The faculty will try to put Lawrence down because he's an outsider and a 'commoner', but Lawrence is at Veridien with a purpose and the isolation he's being subjected to actually works in his favor.

Thank you for your comment. I know they might feel a little like high school students, but they are in their final year of university (I'm sticking to the system that's most common in Europe for most specializations, excluding high-tier ones like medicine, that that involve four years). A small elite school would feel more intimate for sure, and Lawrence will have to navigate all that. I will let the speculations on the identity of the killer evolve with the story

Lawrence is keeping both eyes open... and his ears ready to catch anything of interest. All the while being busy trying to accommodate all these new friendships
