  1. I'm fine, thanks. Just tired. On top of a new job, we're moving and on top of moving, my younger son is not in the best living situation and wants to move back.... I've agreed to it provided it's temporary. That kid has issues of his own that he's working on and being in close proximity to me and my husband isn't the best, especially in a much smaller place, so we'll do what we can to steer him in the right direction and it's up to him from there. Jamie is obtuse in the fact that he's what we call... slow on the uptake. He misses some stuff like this: Whatever is going on requires more energy, more power if you so wish. The more distant a reality is from our own, the more energy is needed to interact with it. I fear somebody wants to open a portal to one of these distant realities.” “And?” “Oh, Jamie, please use your brain! If you open a door, it does not only mean you can go through the door, but also anything on the other side can go through the door as well. To put it in your terms, Jamie, it is as if somebody was opening a door to a place like hell.” “Oh!” Was I really that dumb? Jamie is far from dumb.... just obtuse in that he misses things. Walker notices and often checks to see if he's understood. Mike has 5 years (if I remember correctly) on Jamie. It may not seem like a huge gap in maturity levels for those over 40ish... but the younger people are.... the more pronounced the difference. Mike is in his early 30s and physiologically his brain is supposed to be better at processing information logically rather than emotionally, so yes... I think Mike is perfectly capable of handling the truth.
  2. It looks very tasty, but I will have to take your word for it. Me and bell peppers have a love/hate relationship... I love to hate them. I've never liked them, nor will I ever. Kudos to those who do... enjoy whatever color you prefer, just keep me out it. Lol I'm also a die hard carnivore like @MichaelS36. Tofu is OK, but not as a true substitute for meat. No matter what you add to it, no matter what form you shape it in... it's not meat. Enjoy your soup! I hope everyone has a good day. I'm getting some packing done. Moving is up there with bell peppers in my life.
  3. Now for comments on the chapter... which is an excellent one btw. I found this chapter to be very complex. I'm normally a fast reader... I had to slow down to truly process everything that was going on, and not just because the Scotsman's speech was written phonetically, although it did contribute. It took me a bit to process your idea of parallel worlds/universes. Also, I haven't slept well all week so that just adds to how my brain is a bit sludgy today. I do like the direction the story is going in. I am, however, starting to think that Jamie us indeed a "half-wit". He is rather obtuse. I keep forgetting that he's young. His youth, most likely played a huge part in his drug use as he is still developing the maturity he needs to make better decisions... like telling Mike everything. This deception will cause more harm the longer it goes on. I have never killed anyone, (only have expressed the desire to do so on one individual who truly deserves it) but I imagine that using a gun vs any form of up-close contact killing like via knife or even bare hands is different. Unfortunately, gun violence has become so prevalent here in the US and I think part of the reason us because it affords the perpetrator the advantage of distance. I find it much easier to throw a heavy book at a spider rather than step on it. Pretty sure a big part of Jamie's issues are because he realizes that he must be in close contact with these entities in order to dispatch them. If he can maybe get to the point where he can wrap his head around the idea that he's not technically killing them, but creating an opportunity for them to return to wherever they belong, he might be in a better position to process everything and tell Mike so Mike can help him deal with the mentalband emotional side of things before he implodes. Right now Jamie is on a path he should get the f**k off of pronto. He can't do this alone. Great chapter!
  4. The human psyche is so complex. Our brains will latch on to comments that others just off-handedly throw out there and they burrow within us creating a lot of negative shit like self-doubt and self-loathing. These thoughts can lead to self-destructive behavior such as addictions or a multitude of bad habits. The worst thing is that in most cases the person who made the comment thinks nothing of it and doesn't remember saying it, like your father. They will never understand how they created such a festering wound on our mental health. I can still hear echoes of hurtful words thrown at me by people who were supposed to love me. I've moved on, time does heal wounds and the older I get, the more I'm able to not give a flying f**k what others think.
  5. It must be an inherent quality of those with that name 😉🤭

Agreed. Character characteristics (say that 10x fast) is a prime example of when it's fitting to use show vs tell. Readers' perceptions are going to differ no matter what... that's the great thing about writing.

Geez... I opened up a can of worms, eh? Lord Google has been no help either. The best I can figure out is that most North Americans refer to shorter strands of hair around the face as bangs. Many other English speaking countries use fringe. Some use both. Clear as mud?

After an enlightening Google search, my cranium has now settled on the offspring of Chris Hemsworth and Henry Cavill. Thor with Superman hair.
  17. That looks amazing! What's it going to be? I'm not sure I would have the patience. Plus, anything with small details is hard to see with contacts, even with cheaters. Without glasses, I would need to hold everything about 3 inches from my eyes in order to see any details..being severely nearsighted bites. You've done a great job so far! Have a fantastic Friday everyone!

First of all, I must admit that while Jamie is proving himself to be an excellent police officer, he is still quite understandably out of his depth when it comes to handling these supernatural entities. As with any new job, it sucks when there's no training and your knowledge is acquired in more of a baptism by fire method. (I'm referring to his knowledge of the supernatural... not his police training) He's still figuring out the extent of his abilities while figuring out what will work against him. It also sucks big time that the methods that work against the monsters go against his moral code and he's forced to use them. Who would've thunk you can banish a ghost by slitting its throat? (Supernatural writing... your world.. your way... love it!) Overall, Jamie is handling everything pretty well considering he got thrown into this against his will. I'm sure he'll pick up more tricks as he learns more. Also... I need to clarify this as it just may be a difference between your English and my English: I did as requested and looked as grim as I could from under my bangs. Now, when I hear 'bangs', I think short hair that lies straight across a person's forehead. (Think early Beatles) if that's the case then my mental picture of Jamie is shattered, although you did mention that he had curly hair. So.. please shed some light on this so that I can adjust my mental image accordingly. I'm not really happy with the bowl-cut look that is currently residing in my brain. 🤔🤭🤯
