Thank you @Dodger, I'm happy that you enjoyed it and I had to preserve the car, it is an integral part of the story. John and Steve both died in their 60's, while not as old as many get to live to these days they had good fulfilled lives, Maxie and Charlie are testament to that.

Thank you @AC Benus for the comments. I like to think that the car being in the museum and only starting on that one day a year represents love and memories living on after we pass. A lot of people think of their car as part of the family with feelings, who are we to say they are wrong.

Following the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II today the official proclamations have been made that King Charles III is our King and of all British Overseas Territories and the Head of The Commonwealth. This has taken place with all of the pomp and ceremony that is steeped in hundreds of years of tradition. God Save The Queen. Long Live The King.

But this wasn't a political statement or discussion, it was two characters in a story having a conversation. Okay their conversation was political but that's what realistic characters do isn't it? 😉 -
Thank you @Mawgrim for commenting. The memory of conversations with my father and his friends were my reference for this story. Many times they had a tear in their eye as they 'relived' their lives as we talked.

You really know how to put us through the wringer don't you, if it wasn't for the fact that you gave Wes some hope of walking again I could hate you. Not really, how could any of us hate you, we love you really. It's a good and sometimes too realistic story, thank you for bringing it to us.

I'm sitting here with the TV on in the background listening to the sad news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. This is a sad day for the UK we have lost an absolute gem of a Monarch. R.I.P Your Majesty, may you rest in peace.

Thank you @84Mags for the comments and compliment. I didn't want the end to express sadness, but that they had lived meaningful and fulfilled lives that came to a natural end where in the sadness their lives would be celebrated, one where their memories would be cherished and live on in their children. I hope I succeeded.

Thank you @W_L for the comments, like all comments they do mean a lot. The true inspiration for the story is one of memories, not my memories but those that were shared in conversations by my dad and some of his friends. Unfortunately they are no longer with us but the memories of those conversations are and will never be forgotten. It is a fictional story that owes a lot to those conversations and intended to show an aspect of life for men in the UK during the '70's and '80's. Relationships like John and Steve's existed but were never talked about and kept secret.

I have vague recollections of riding in the back seat of the one that my dad had, surprisingly roomy and comfortable, but sadly there was no flying and he didn't crash land in it.

I've just finished reading this first batch - well there is one I didn't need to read, lol 😅 - and loved everyone of them. From this initial batch I think I can safely say, we are in for a real treat with this anthology. Thank you to all who played a part in bringing this to fruition, no matter how large or small your part has been.

Some very interesting and valid points are raised in this factually realistic story. Obviously they are of importance to those who live in the USA, but it's not just American citizens who need to take an interest in what happens in the political sphere regarding these issues. Many countries around the world take notice, if one influential country in the west makes a decision others often tend to follow. This is not just a US national concern, it is a global concern and we all need to stand together no matter where we are.- 48 comments
