I think I can say with confidence that any judge in the Children's Court will have experience with children The problem will not be the zipper incident, but getting rid of the stigma that comes from being merely accused. From a pessimist's perspective, just because Peter has been cleared on this one incident, that doesn't mean he's not a molester. Now that an accusation has been raised, the department will be cautious, just in case the accusation is valid, and it was only that one incident that wasn't proven.

It's true that Peter has had a tough time. Some of that is his own fault (not talking to Alan about his growing frustations), but like Alan, he thought that by keeping that sort of thing to himself he was sparing the other person. All of the recent dramas, however, are definitely not his fault, and he's struggling to cope. Steve and Keidan will find things different with one or more kids around the house, but unlike Alan and Peter, they will know this before the kids show up. They'll have time to be prepared, or at least as prepared as they can be. I'm not sure, but I believe becoming a foster parent involves mandatory training, something most parents don't have.

Alan and Peter were previously renting. When they moved into Lisa's home and realised that it wasn't going to be short term, they ended the lease on their old place. So, Peter didn't have anywhere immediate he could go, and hence Steve and Keidan's offer...er...telling As for Alan, yes, he should tell Lisa and Rosalie. Any bets as to whether he'll do so? 0;)

As you've sad, it's sad but true that a single accusation can lead to weeks of problems for all involved....

Thank you! People who work in this space know about false and malicious accusations, but it's still a challenge to work out if an allegation is true. As droughtquake has said below, as a general rule the people responsible will err on the side of caution to protect the children. We'll have to wait and see what happens when Peter faces court.

Prosecutions of the nature you're alluding to are generally rare in Australia, but you're right that at least some social workers will be very cautious after an accusation of child abuse. No decent person will want to have knowing they've returned a child to an abusive situation on their conscience if the truth comes out later. It's a tough call, and a lot will probably want to err on the side of caution.

Peter's in a bad place mentally at the moment. His life has been stressed for weeks and then suddenly he's taken from his partner and thrust into the middle of a very dangerous accusation. I think he's doing okay, all things considered

Like Jeffrey, I'd like to know what was upsetting Ryder's dad. The scene at the start of the chapter wasn't the compassionate coach we'd previously seen, the coach who looked after Shawn and Dylan, the coach that went to get Jeremy out of a bad situation, the coach who looked after Ryder when he was beginning to remember his past. It was as if it were a different person. The hardnosed coaching is something we've already seen, but the anger wasn't. Unfortunately, it's very human when there's something upsetting us to take it out on those around us, even though they don't deserve it...

No,I haven't abandoned the story. I've been posting a new chapter each Saturday. The story isn't completed, but it's close. I'm writing the last chapter at the moment...

Thank you! I have always felt that the creative part of writing involves balancing character development and plot development. I'm not always happy that I have the balance right, but I always aim to have characters that the readers can feel something for (positive or negative).

A great chat between Tyler and Ryder -- I especially liked how they alternate questions for awhile -- but I'm concerned that Ryder is opening up to people too quickly. He used to be very private, and now he's becoming very open, at least with some people. It could be that he feels he can trust Tyler, but I suspect it's a sign of his vulnerability. He's looking for something and being overly honest with a relative stranger is actually a cry for...not help, but something. Another great chapter. Thank you!

Alan and Peter have a good lawyer, but most law firms in Australia do not operate 24 hours a day, especially if they don't specialise in criminal law. It's Saturday night in the story, and that's not an easy time to get hold of someone that you only know professionally. Peter may have to wait until Monday before he'll be able to contact the law firm.
