I agree. There needs to be a balance in politics so neither side can push their ideals or agenda too far.

It’s the same in many places these days. The small operators can’t afford modern equipment and more people will drive a distance to the multiplex.

It’s a revision of an old story. Nowhere near as complex as the mysteries, but I can only write short pieces while my hands are numb and I’m recovering from radiotherapy.

I just posted the first chapter of a new story and one of my readers messaged to say that when they switch to dark mode, the text shows dark blue instead of white. They are reading in Chrome. I copied and pasted the text from Mac Pages, as I always do, although I am using my iPad rather than my MacBook. Not sure what formatting issues might be causing this.

As the cinema industry changes from film to digital, will there still be a place for the projectionist? Dean has been captivated by cinema all his life. Will his dreams of a career in the industry survive? And what about his relationship with Mark? Cat’s love of nostalgia and the magic of film have carried her through many changes in the business. But is this the final curtain? Bill has worked in the industry for nearly fifty years and wants to pass on his skills to a new generation. Can he adapt yet again?

2010 - Bill Imagine you are sitting in the steeply raked auditorium of a suburban super cinema, built sometime in the nineteen-thirties. Back then, cinemas like this brought a touch of Hollywood glamour into ordinary people’s lives, but time has moved on and audiences have declined, pulled away by other forms of entertainment. The seat you are sitting on is well worn. The decorative lighting is kept deliberately dim, to hide the peeling paint on the side walls and the badly patched holes i

A story very much grounded in today’s world, where racism and homophobia are still very much a part of people's lives. At first, Parker isn't having to confront the prejudice in his small town, but when he sees a young black man beaten up by the local police, he is forced to change his attitudes and is drawn into a spiralling web of events. The love story is convincing and there are a couple of shocking moments. Ronyx isn't afraid to pull his punches and take his characters through a whole range of emotions.

I realised about two thirds of the way through who the two main characters were supposed to be. A lovely send-up and I reckon Her Majesty would have had a chuckle at this.

I would describe this story as a gentle romance. Loved the development of Jensen as he gets older and how what starts off as just a teenage crush becomes true love over the course of many years. And, of course, they finally get together in a HEA ending. This would make a great film.

A well thought out and beautifully described piece of history for those who didn’t live through those times. I liked the use of Polari, too. I already knew some of the words, but it's increased my vocabulary!

Thank you for the compliment.

Let’s hope there’s an election sooner rather than later. Already the new cabinet are rewarding the rich while caring very little about the plight of the rest of us. It's going to be a hard winter.

They will be, but I've a lot of other stuff I need to finish and post as well.

Glad you gave it a go. It's not the sort of thing I usually write, but events inspired me.

I'm reminded of Margaret Attwood's recent comments that when she wrote 'The Handmaid's Tale' she never realised she was writing a prediction of the future.

So am I, which is one of the reasons I was inspired to write this.

The train wound southwards through the parched countryside of Germany. The carriage was full of holidaymakers returning from their summer breaks in Scandinavia, away from the grinding heat of southern Europe. Those who could afford it always holidayed in the cooler northern countries. Once they might have gone to the UK, but not anymore. Tony turned away from the window and gave Ben a small smile, then rummaged in his rucksack and took out the sandwiches they'd bought earlier. Thanks to a p

In the year 2050, Ben and Tony are due to celebrate their ten year anniversary of escape from a totalitarian England. But their holiday plans are disrupted when Ben is persuaded to help two newly-arrived refugees avoid recapture.

Chapter 1: Happy Anniversary, Honey!
Mawgrim commented on Bill W's story chapter in Chapter 1: Happy Anniversary, Honey!
What's happening in the USA at the moment is worrying to me, even though I am from the UK. It's so easy to slide towards fascism and the overturning of Roe v Wade is a good example of that. Some of the more rabid right wing would have been perfect members of the Nazi party in Germany. They're Christian versions of the Taliban, wanting to suppress people's rights. Unfortunately, the UK seems to be going down a similar path due to the right wing Conservative government and too many people just feel that 'I can't do anything about it'. -
Very powerful description of the moment when someone finally sees a toxic relationship for what it really is. But this day was different… it was the end of pretense That line sums it up so well.

I loved the description of the forest and the feelings that can be evoked when we go back to nature. The bittersweet relationship that had to end through the greed of development was the perfect ending.

Such a lovely story. The detail of the drive together, the special picnic and the knowledge that they lived good lives despite everything against them brought a tear to my eye. Nostalgia, beautifully done.

It really feels like the end of an era. For all of my life, Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne. We all knew it would happen one day, but when it does, it's still a shock.

Fire Lizards are rediscovered in about seven Turns, when F'nor is convalescing after being knifed.
