  1. Matt’s drunk tears were so adorable, how could Seamus possibly resist? Matt gets a lot of flak for being dense, because it should be obvious Seamus likes him, right? But if I were in Matt’s shoes I’d also have several layers of protective wool pulled over my eyes. Admitting someone like Seamus is into you would be like admitting Zeus is into you (or some other god, take your pick). You’d have to hammer your way around a million “does not compute” errors before any of it made sense. Loved this chapter. Again, I can’t get over how much fun this is to read.

    Chapter 6

I’m also looking forward to getting off the train!! I’ve been stuck in there for days writing this chapter and I’m starting to get antsy myself. I promise you won’t be stuck there much longer. Thanks again

    Chapter 4

Double, double, toil and trouble... Thanks so much for sharing your comments as you read

    Chapter 3

This is a lovely thing to say, and my brain is trying to make it into a Haiku. Too many syllables but close enough.

    Chapter 2

Lol - your first line got another laugh for your collection. It was a good loud one too. Enjoy! Thanks so much for the kind words, I’m happy you liked the little poem

    Chapter 6

I’ve used dip pens for artwork but haven’t done much writing with them. They make such beautiful lines. Meeting people on long train rides is a unique experience. I’m laughing as I write this because I have a few memories of people coming on pretty strong, not entirely unlike Zak. Maybe it’s because a lot of people get bored and drunk 🥴 Thank you so much for your thoughts and kind words.

    Chapter 6

Some trains make more stops, but this one only makes a few, probably because it travels such a long distance. The closest stop to Toronto is about 400 miles away. Technically they could take a bus from there, but they don’t have the money. Thanks so much for reading and telling me your insights!
  9. The train passed through a landscape of tiny frozen lakes, small villages and patches of trees. As I watched the world pass by through the window, Mr. Jameson's image echoed in my thoughts. I saw him often in the reflections other passengers made against the window as they passed - a green cap, a hint of graying red hair, the turn of a ruddy face. But they must have been ghosts or remnants of my thoughts, because when I looked more closely, it was never him. I wrote about him in my journal on th
  10. The part about Aiden’s throw up complimenting the leather seats, followed shortly after by the jeggings commentary had me rolling... I am really enjoying the banter, so well done!!

    Chapter 3

Mrs. Miller is belligerent, I’m shocked she hasn’t been fired if she’s showing up drunk. It’s sad she had a miscarriage though. I wonder what her relationship is to the professor. Maybe she’s on to something? I’d like to get to know Dalton better. He’s been swept up in all this madness and hasn’t had much of a chance to react. I wonder what he is thinking and feeling.

    Chapter 1

I’m glad to have a new reader! Thank you! 😊
  13. Ugh, Father is so creepy. The way he treats his family makes me think he had a messed up childhood. I wonder what it would be like to have powers like his. It would be so easy to use them the wrong way. Healing injuries aside, it’s hard to think of a right way to use powers like that. I like Freja. I think Casper will learn a lot from her.
  14. Oh my goodness you are a goofball, thanks for the laugh. Now please explain the terrifying image you so lovingly placed at the end. Another gift for your mum?
  15. This story is so much fun to read. Matt has an incredible amount of strength for shouldering so many burdens and making it all work. His little brother is lucky to have him. Like a few other commenters have mentioned, Seamus is a nice mystery and I can’t wait to understand him better. He’s clearly got a good heart, but his lack of conversation makes him intimidating. I like to think he’s got a crush on Matt and he’s nervous to chat with him. Can’t wait to read more!

    Contrapunto

Mrs. Lee is so sweet, I want her to be my grandma. I’m glad she figured Rick out first. Her acceptance and her her good advice were heartwarming. I hope this gives Rick an infusion of courage so he can take care of this Rita problem once and for all. I think knowing he’s gay might be the only thing that would stop her. I’m worried that Magda and Zoltan have too much power over Gus. As a grown man he should have far more control over his own life. We knew something was wrong considering his arm was broken over a disagreement. But he plays everything off so casually it’s easy just to brush it aside. I think his relationship with them is disturbing and he needs to get away. Thanks for another great chapter!
  17. Poor Casper 🥺 I’m happy to see James opening up to his friends. Funny how things that seem so heavy can come out so casually when it’s the right time. So both James’ and Casper’s parents have the wool pulled over their eyes about their sons’ powers. It makes sense that Casper would hide his. It doesn’t make as much sense for James, who trusts his parents more. I hope he asks his dad for help with this wild situation he’s getting wrapped up in. These kids are definitely getting in over their heads.

    Chapter 4

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess Enzo had something to do with that bruise. I feel bad for Michele, and I’m so happy he and Toto made peace. They are adorable friends. I enjoyed this story as a sequel to Fireflies. It was fun to revisit them years later and witness how they have changed. Whatever you decide to write, I’m all in. I love your languid graceful style, the heart put into the characters’ struggles, and the loving attention to details in the environment.

    Chapter 2

The catholic concept of limbo always gave me the creeps. As a kid I imagined people stuck in their graves for thousands of years. I wonder if Noelle can watch what’s happening on Earth from her place in limbo or if she’s just kinda ... stuck. What could Noelle have said in that letter? I’m so curious. It sounds like it could have been a breakup letter. A letter to say she cheated? Or a stalker letter? Ha. I have no idea and I’m looking forward to finding out...

    Chapter 12

Now that I’m done crying my eyes out... My heart shattered in this last chapter. Everything about this story is absolutely beautiful. I’m at a loss for words. I’m glad you started posting Toto’s story or I might not have stumbled across this brilliant gem. I’ll remember it for a very long time.

    Chapter 2

It’s too bad Michele went and squealed to Enzo. At least, that’s what I assume has happened. Claudia seems like a good friend to make though, sticking up for Toto to the bullies. It’s sad how one kiss could lead to so much blowback. I imagine the road ahead has a lot of bumps for this poor kid.

    Chapter 5

It’s fun to read your insights. I’m tempted to tell you whether or not you’re correct but of course I’ll refrain and leave it to the story. The age of adulthood in most of Canada is 18. So it’s definitely plausible that legal trouble could be on their heels. They both have a lot to consider as they embark on this trip. Thanks for reading and commenting!

    Chapter 5

Yes Michael is young and relatively innocent, but he’s strong in many ways where Ethan is weak, and vice versa. They will need to rely on each other as they navigate this crazy world. Thanks so much for reading and commenting
  25. Orange light spread through the clouds as the truck rolled on. Twilight settled over the forest. Black streets, dirty grey snow banks, and tree trunks lit up in the beams of my headlights. The monotonous road threw me into a state of hypnosis. Moments flashed behind my eyes. The fire poker in Jonathan’s hand. Leah standing in my doorway with a blanket, worried I’d freeze to death. Mrs. Jameson’s puffy eyes. Jonathan’s frozen body, frosted with snow. Blood flying from Mr. Jameson’s mouth.
