  1. When I was a kid, whenever we were at one of my dad's functions with his colleagues, he used to grab me and put his arm around me and introduce me. He liked to show me off. It used to embarrass me, but now I miss it. My Dad has a very strong moral sense of right and wrong, which he combines with an ability to never judge anyone just because they're not like him, and I thank him for passing that on to me. Happy Fathers Day.

  5. I especially enjoy reading French and Russian literature and a common theme I've noticed is that of melancholia in everyday life. In French and Russian culture, I believe gloom and sadness is accepted much more as an important part of life. Something to be embraced instead of avoided. In our American culture, it seems as if we avoid any form of sadness at all costs and strive to be happy as often as we can. What do you think? Is melancholia a good thing? Should we not be afraid to be sad? Should we welcome it instead of avoiding it?
  6. hehe Good one Andy I'd like to have a robot maid.

  10. I'm actually listening to this song now on my Ipod. Romeo Void If time itself was his demeanor There'd be no sunlight or a glimmer Of sunlight landin on the street Sunsuit girls must be discreet Sunsuit girls must be discreet Nursing their fathers locked inside They masqueraded as his bride I might like you better If we slept together But there's somethin In your eyes that says Maybe that's never Never say never The slump by the courthouse With windbur n skin That man could give a f*@k About the grin on your face As you walk by, randy as a goat He's sleepin on papers When he'd be warm in your coat I might like you better If we slept together But there's somethin In your eyes that says Maybe that's never Never say never There's no easy way to lose your sight On the street, on the stairs Who's on your flight Old couple walks by, as ugly as sin But he's got her and she's got him
  11. OK, some of the major inventions have been the light bulb, radio, car, television, phone, computer, cell phone and internet (to name a few) that have created major changes in the world. What could possibly be the next big invention that could change the way we think and live like these have?

  14. This Mayor is trying to make a name for himself. I'd tell him to go pound sand. Indecent exposure laws in most states make it a crime to purposefully display one's genitals in public, causing others to be offended. Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, central to achieving individual freedoms and real democracy. It increases the knowledge base and participation within a society and can also secure external checks on state accountability. Yet freedom of expression is not absolute. The extent to which expression ought to be protected or censored has been the object of many impassionate debates. Few argue that freedom of expression is absolute and suffers no limits. But the line between what is permissible and what is not is always contested. Unlike many others, this right depends on its context and its definition is mostly left to the discretion of states. If a law like this ever passed then challenged by the USSC it would be declared void by due process of law. Beware the tyranny of the majority who would eviscerate your rights in order for them to impose their morals and religious beliefs on you and others through oppressive laws.
  15. Thank you for dinner, everything was perfect.
  16. Happy Birthday Mark
  17. If you're a civil rights lawyer you need to be thick-skinned, or you're in the wrong business. I find thin skinned lawyers to be weak and easy targets.
  18. If I saw a transparent person, I would not know how to interpret the phenomenon. But I would certainly not jump to the conclusion that it was a ghost. I would investigate, to arrive at an interpretation that was not inconsistent with my naturalistic worldview. An actual, verified, ghost would force me to reconsider the very foundations of my view of the world. Maybe I should. But a transparent being would only constitute a challenge. It would not tell me that it was necessarily a "ghost." Similarly, a flying object that I cannot identify is not automatically an alien ship from outer space. It's just an object that I cannot at this time identify.
  19. I think courtesy is a reasonable mode for humans and that much derogatory wording has been hurtful not just to the immediate person being derided but to colloquy at large. Most of the words objected to as things turned "pc aware" was used as separators - such as "crazy". I agree that sometimes we go overboard into silliness as it is occasionally hard to keep up with group preferences and some are a little contrived, but I like the underlying idea of simple courtesy behind the newer appellations. Free speech, I have it, I can call anybody anything, but I choose my words, or try to, to deride ideas or constructions, not groups of people en masse. And on a lighter note: "full time outdoorsman" - homeless "non conventional commuter" - carjacker And for prostitutes hehe, - "receiver of swollen goods"

When my son was killed my doctor put me on Valium. He said I could take two to three 10-milligram tablets a day depending on if I needed to. Two or three wasn't enough so I found two others doctors who also prescribed them to me. At that time I was up to about eight 10 milligrams a day. Then when the doctors cut me off I actually would take the three-day cruise from Long Beach to Ensenada Mexico, walk off the ship and hit about 4 Pharmacy's where I would purchase $500 to $600 worth of valium and simply walk back on the ship and go home. I did that several times and ended up taking 80 milligrams a day for almost two years. Little did I know Valium was one of the most addicting drugs you can take. One day I just decided I didn't need them anymore so I just stopped taking them. About four days without the Valium I got what I thought was the flue. After a week of still being sick I finally went to the doctor. I was honest with him when he asked questions about my symptoms and if I had been taking medication, when I told him about the Valium he was surprised I was still alive and told me I was going through withdrawals. He had to actually put me back on Valium to slowly wean me off the medication. The withdrawals lasted close to 30 days and was one of the most horrible agonizing pain you could possible imagine.
