    Three

The author @Salerion has done what I wasn't sure I'd ever see: the deceasement of the Narrator. Of course, I suspect it's been done elsewhere - maybe I haven't read widely enough. Somewhere I've heard that the Dreamer never dies in their own dream. awakening beforehand. Maybe that's the same phenomenon (if one can call it that). In any case, until the dead Narrator tells us the story is over, we don't know if the Narrator is actually dead. It's almost a literary Catch-22. Part of me wants him to "wake up" so the story can continue. But I'd leave that to the Author. Either way, this was an absorbing tale. Kudos!

    Chapter One

Another newcomer here. Not sure how I even stumbled on this story - maybe it was in the monthly GA genre posting - but I'm glad I did. Like @nix, I'm not quite as-old-as-dirt, but having already reached my three-score-and-ten, I'm fascinated how guys in this day and age navigate their way through the stresses of growing up. That was something I didn't think I was very successful at while I was going through it, though I knew I was a Very Happy Boi despite the sturm-und-drang of it all.
  3. I hadn't even begun to think along these lines. Hats off to you, @Summerabbacat. Being an Adult Child of an Alcoholic, I'm surprised this hadn't occurred to me at all - though I must say that the impact of my father's booze never struck me as more than incidental, so much so that when I eulogized him at his funeral, I don't remember saying much about The Bottle at all. No, I wasn't in denial. My mother wasn't even at the funeral. Maybe I simply had strong defense mechanisms.
  4. And a shout-out to @Superpride who has written some of the SEXIEST scenes ever. Personally speaking, this chapter was particularly, um, productive. Author! Author!
  5. Talk about the L word, I just LOVE this song! Another "never heard it before." What's so funny is that sleepy Bjorn reminds me of ... ME (except for his beardlessness): I was always the guy asleep at birthday parties (they'd taken snapshots of me snoozing at my friend's 21st) or on the floor after a particularly wonderful meal ... I know it's rude of my to nod off at a friend's place, but, well, we can't all be perfect. Thanks @Summerabbacat!
  6. Even residents of Mars would recognize this one! One of my favs! So poignant, to be sure. For some reason I can relate, though ultimately I really can't complain how my seven-plus decades have (so far) panned out. Thanks @Summerabbacat!
  7. She sounds spectacularly talented @Summerabbacat. I'll have to listen to Wuthering Heights furshur.
  8. The name sounds vaguely familiar, but I was rarely exposed to much of anyone during my three years in the UK...

    Chapter 8

@Summerabbacat, despite the ridiculous outfit - only Benny looks "respectable" in this video LOL - I am gaining a new appreciation for Bjorn. Like Benny, he has a great smile, and as my "friends" have told me, I've always been a sucker for a smile (do I detect some Freudian innuendo here???).
  10. Maybe, but you're still lovable @Summerabbacat LOL
  11. Once again, this is new ABBA territory for me @Summerabbacat. So I looked it up - by the time of Visitors' release, I had returned to the States from the UK already, and ABBA was, for me, proved to be part of my UK experience. It must have disappeared from my radio. (I should have stayed in the UK for so many reasons). A missing chunk from my past has been restored...

    Chapter Twenty-two

Absolutely haunting. Another new one for me. I am indebted.

    Chapter Twenty-one

Bjorn? Bearded? That's quite becoming! But then, I'm quite partial to facial hair - always have been - and since my BF is East Asian, it's in short supply around here. So I make up for it by growing a thin facial "collier" which is barely visible, now that I've gone all white (I hope the preceding doesn't qualify as TMI).

    Chapter Twenty-one

That's an understatement! But where is Bjorn? Do my eyes fail me?

    Chapter Twenty

If @drsawzall says everthing is gonna be alright, I have confidence that all will turn out well in the end ... eh?

    Chapter Twenty

Actually, I hadn't forgotten, but decided that Barrett was star of the show in this chapter. Speaking of the star, Bjorn looked particularly fetching on this video. WOOF! This, by the way @Summerabbacat - is another part of my musical education: never heard this one. Sounds more naughty than what I might have expected from the likes of ABBA 🙂

    Chapter Twenty

I was curious how you were going to tie the plot to a musical theme, @Summerabbacat, because I was fixated on Barrett's first bj ... I guess you can see where my mind has been lately "blush"

    Chapter Nineteen

This is an awesome (sorry for an overused cliche) piece of art I had never heard before. Once again my musical horizons have been expanded. Thank you @Summerabbacat! As for our story: if Todd comes back in after exiting the restaurant, the lyrics would be all the more appropriate. However, if Todd knuckles under to his father, I'll lose a lot of respect for him. To paraphrase a well-known passage of scripture, we are to grow up and "cleave" to our spouse (isn't the Authorized Version delightfully quaint?) when it comes time to leave the nest. I hope Todd realizes his future lies with Barrett (or the spouse of his choosing), and not with Daddy Dearest.

    Chapter Eighteen

What surprised me was the fact that Anthony was even there while Barrett and Todd were in the next room going at it. The scene reminded me of when I was deflowered (the condom was an electric shade of yellow LOL). I had happily forgotten all about Anthony. I guess I just don't care for him all that much.

    Chapter Seventeen

Who said I was thinking? I'm too busy swooning...

    Chapter Seventeen

I don't think ANYONE is near as good as ABBA *swoon*
  22. Tris

    Chapter Seventeen

Just as I have a "new" appreciation for Bjorn (I've always loved that name anyways). Feel free, @Summerabbacat, to make your confessions with me anytime LOL. Absolution, anyone? It's good for the soul 🙂

    Chapter Seventeen

Once again, this is a new one for me. Bjorn's lookin' mighty fine, but that bowtie on Benny just blew me away! I have a few bowties in my own collection of neck-wear. Haven't worn any in a long time, but maybe it's time to drag them out into the light of day. Hot!

    Chapter Sixteen

I grew up in a French dominant household, though I myself am English dominant. My mother was born and grew up in northern France, not too far from Paris, where my relatives live; they are French-only speakers. As a kid I used to feel a bit confused as to what side of the Atlantic I belonged on, but I guess I have finally sorted it out 😉

    Chapter Sixteen

I have yet to "meet" an ABBA song I haven't liked @Summerabbacat ... and this is one of the better ones. One of the things that amazes me is the thoroughly idiomatic command ABBA has of English - and I say that as a bilingual myself.
