    Niran is watching Kaleo from a distance, admiring his devotion to his family and his love for his sisters and nieces... But does he also feel a sense of nostalgia, and perhaps guilt, for neglecting his own son and mother? Beyond their business relationship and obvious attraction, could Kaleo be a bridge for Niran to reconnect with his own family?

    I just loved all the movies that I could draw parallels with while reading this chapter. The scene from The Bridge on the River Kwai, when the boys are marching early in the morning, lifting their spirits with “sinful music,” immediately came to mind. Elias reminds me of Robert Redford’s character in The Last Castle, though I’m hoping for a better fate for him. And Carter reminds me of Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society. However, his final encounter with the evil master makes me wonder whether he will be able to stand by the boys until the end - or whether he might betray them. Amazing chapter!!!

    I remembered the main characters and the plot, but it took me a little while to remember all the different relationships and connections woven throughout the story. It's a great story, and I'm glad you're continuing to publish it @lilansui!

    It’s good that Miles recognized he needed professional help from a therapist. His past is clearly demanding answers and closure. My first impression of this chapter, however, is that Miles still hasn’t found himself. And maybe that’s the answer: before he can find his way home, he has to find his way to himself. There’s a strong sense of aimlessness in this chapter. While Troy is attending school, busy with classes, studying, exams, and building a vision for his future, Miles is working a part-time job and, for the most part, acting like a househusband. It feels as though he doesn’t know how to live or function outside the ranch. He has to discover who he is first. Only then will he know what place Troy has in his life.

    This horrible place feels like a combination of the orphanage from Nicholas Nickleby and Goli Otok, the barren island off the Croatian coast in the Adriatic where political prisoners were sent during Tito's Yugoslavia. The methods used there were brutally physical, but also psychologically devastating: breaking stones for no purpose, carrying buckets of seawater up the island only to pour them into a broken barrel, and, most notoriously, running the gauntlet as a "welcome" for new prisoners. Calloway wouldn't be the first of your characters to make me wonder whether he's a bit on the spectrum. And Elias - could he be a sapiosexual? For the first time, I feel like I actually understand what that term means.

    Elias isn’t the only one surprised by Calloway. Honestly, I didn’t expect Calloway to show such an attitude and stand his ground. The artistic boy seemed weak, but he’s actually very intelligent… I hope he survives this hell!

    Someone mentioned that this chapter feels like the end of Book 1...and I have to agree. There’s definitely a feeling that one chapter of their lives has come to an end and a new one is beginning. Life was never easy for them, but it’s clear that their years together on the ranch were, in many ways, pretty carefree. It was like living in a bubble - just the two of them, surrounded by their loving family and friends and the people on the ranch. They were protected from much of the outside world. Now, the “real” life begins. One is working, the other is going to school, and they’ll be meeting new people, facing new temptations and challenges. It’s going to be really interesting to see how they navigate this new stage of their lives.

    A cliff… A CLIFF… Really?! So, we have to wait a whole week to find out what Barnswallow is… half the state, maybe?! 😄 Beautiful chapter - how can you not love a granny? And she knows. Of course she knows. ❤️ I’m still touched by the passing of the late Dolly Parton, so I can’t help but imagine August’s granny as the wonderful, late Dolly! Btw - Augustus… as in the emperor of Rome… that’s SOME name! 😄

    La Comedia è Finita! Just... not that opera. Instead of "Ridi, Pagliaccio," we got Hitmen with a Heart! So, Danny isn't just loyal - he's capable of real sacrifice. By ending the story with the unfinished Turandot, Danny gives Drew the freedom to write his own ending. But there's another beautiful layer of symbolism here. In the opera, it is Liù who sacrifices herself so Calaf can be with his princess. In a way, Danny makes that sacrifice too. The difference is that his own story doesn't end in tragedy - it continues in the bright, joyful notes of Rossini. Bravissimi!

    I watched it... Whatever we may think of Woody Allen personally, he is undoubtedly a great - if eccentric - artist. As for the Godfather III association, I didn't mean it as an inspiration for the book as a whole. I meant that specific final scene, when Don Michael Corleone's son makes his debut as Turiddu in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana at Teatro Massimo. Interesting, isn't it? Another opera about passion, jealousy, and Italian vendetta - this one set in Sicily on Easter morning. Which brings us to the finale of your amazing story. After the "dirty cop" twist in this chapter, I'm so impatient to see what kind of resolution you're going to bring to this story!

    It doesn't have to end in tragedy or even result in lifelong consequences. The healing and rehabilitation process alone can be long and slow enough to become life-changing - not just for the injured person, but for the entire family. Yeah...life was 'too' good!
